Here I am constituting a list in order of merit of the 2 batsmen playing for one team who when rolled into one would comprise the perfect batsmen.I have selected pairs with varying strengths ,contrasting styles or qualities.Remember pairs are only selected of batsmen playing in the same team and not from different eras.

1.Greg Chappell-Ian Chappell

Nothing could come closer to perfection than blending the technical correctness and flair of Greg Chappell with the determination and improvisation of Ian Chappell.Ian would come out on top in a crisis while Greg took batting perfection to it's supreme height.

2.Everton Weekes-Frank Worrell

What more could you wish in moulding the supreme attacking agression or brutal power of Weekes with the poetic elegance or sublime touch of Worell.Worrell posessed grace in regions of divinty like a concert pianist while Weekes took batting domination to its ultimate zenith.of the sublime.Reminiscent of a boxer and a pianist moulded into one.

3.Denis Compton-Len Hutton

The Technical perfectness of Hutton combined with the poetic genius of Compton was like moulding an architect with a magician.Compton took creativity in regions unexplored while Hutton was the ultimate epitome of technical perforation.

4.Mark Waugh-Steve Waugh

Mark Waugh was elegance and technical skill personified while Steve was the epitome of championing a cause when the chips were down.Mark could pierce the most impregnable gaps while Steve could master the worst of wickets.

5.Sachin Tendulkar-Rahul Dravid

The phenomenal talent and strokemaking ability of Tendulkar with the supreme determination and technical correctness of Dravid would constitute a super batsmen.Sachin's mastery in the 'V' and backward punch shot would be a perfect foil for Dravid's mastery of the cover drive and wristwork.

6.Viv Richards-Lawrence Rowe

Viv would devour the best of attacks like a tiger while Rowe displayed the correctness of an Englsih grammar professor. Both had great natural talent with Rowe the more elegant and Viv the more imperious.

7..Zaheer Abbas-Javed Miandad

The artistry and technical correctness of Zaheer Abbas with the uncanny improvisation of Miandad would be the ultimate thorn in the flesh..Zaheer flourished on flat tracks and to good length deliveries while Javed was the ultimate man to negotiate short pitched deliveries or bad wickets.

8.Sunil Gavaskar-Gundappa Vishwanath

The magical artistry and creative genius of Vishwanath would be the perfect foil for the supreme technical skill and concentration of Gavaskar-A poet and a technician moulded into one .Vishy was the more talented and artistic,Gavaskar was the more determined.

9.Geoff Boycott-David Gower

The sheer effortlessness and natural ability of Gower combined with the supreme technical correctness and depth of concentration of Boycott would comprise a perfect batsmen.

10.Rahul Dravid-VVS Laxman

The creative artistry and imagination of VVS would perfectly blend with the technical ability and determination of Dravid.

11.Alistair Cook-Kevin Pietersen

Pietersen's flourishing strokeplay would be the perfect foil for Cook's solidity.

12.=Clive Lloyd-Alvin Kalicharan

Technical perfection and grace of Kallicharan with the brutal power of Clive Lloyd would make the ultimate batsmen.

12=Mohinder Amarnath-Mohammad Azharuddin

There could hardly be a better fusion than the silken strokes or artistry in regions of divinity of Azhar with the concentration, correctness and determination of Amarnath.A soldier and musician rolled into one.

14.Vijay Merchant-Mushtaq Ali

The supreme technical correctness of Merchant with the glorious Wizardry of Mushtaq would make a true champion.

Root and Stokes. The ability of the first with the concentration of the second.

cool story.

de Villiers-Faf.

The genius of de Villiers coupled with Faf's game awareness.

Overlapped for a short period of time, but Border and Chappell.

Border was probably the most gritty, determined batsmen ever while Chappell was an elegant stylish batsmen with all the talent in the world.

Good choice sir.Like my selections and rankings?

Sir, plz don't call me sir. I find it insulting.

On topic, I really liked your selections and rankings and more importantly the description that you have put up and always do, it's absolutely awesome. However, these threads are quite hypothetical and don't see much point in making such hypothetical rankings on the basis of certain criteria's.

Yo OP, can you also do two fielders from the same side who would make the perfect overall fielder? I patiently await for your findings.

I think, the pairing are from same era, in which I am sure Zaheer-Mazid pairing will be more exciting than Javed-Zaheer. Among cross era, I would love to see Saeed-Mazid/Zaheer pair.

For WIN, I think their last great pair was Lara-Hooper.

And Harsh, honestly tell me you missed Kanhai-Sobers & Pollock-Richards pair by mistake!!!!!!!

Misbah-Afridi, a combination of defense and aggression, with being able to defend the bad balls while putting away the poor deliveries without getting too over excited would make this batsman one to reckon with.

Kanhai-Sobers were similar in style and were Sobers-Pollock. Geniuses all but not contrasting. That is why not included.

I might have missed the selection criteria - in that case all my picks in post actually don't qualify.

What about Chanders & Lara then :)

In this list both batsmen have to play for the same team and at the same time.

I reckon Inzimam and Younis Khan would make a fantastic cricketer. The raw ability of Inzimam coupled with the grit of Younis Khan. Inzimam could have been one of the GOATs of the game but he lacked the drive and never applied himself the way he should have. Younis on the other hand lacked a great deal in natural ability but made up for it through grit and hard work. What one guy lacks the other seems to possess in abundance.

Mohammed Hafeez and Umar Akmal - one has brains but not enough ability with the bat , the other has the ability but not enough brains.

Very good choice almost thought of it.

Junaids please come here .Remember criteria of players in same team and same time as well as having contrasting batting styles and not similar.

Shan Masood - Umar Akmal :inzi2

One has work ethics, temperament while other has a lot of natural skills but lacking almost all the traits of the other one. While the first one doesn’t have the natural skillset close to the second one.

The defence of Dravid with the attack of Laxman!

The concentration and determination of Stokes with the attacking stroke play of Stokes!

The style of Martin Crowe with the discipline and organisation and toughness of John Wright.

But above all the strokeplay of Greenidge with the defence of Haynes!

A final honourable mention. The best partnership I’ve ever seen was Greenidge and Barry Richards opening at Hampshire. But they didn’t really contrast, they just pulverised any opposition they could be bothered to try against.

Not a batsmen but Shane Bond with Wagner's durability.

Dravid and Sehwag would be better combination.

I am not sure if Milburn & Boycott ever opened together - must has to be one of the most contrasting opening pair ever.
