Ashley Giles has hinted that a 2 coach policy could work for England.

Could this also work for Pakistan? Mickey Arthur has proved that he is a good coach in the shorter formats, but do Pakistan need another coach to work with the Test team?

Could this work?

Is it a recipe for disaster?

Pakistan isn't a professional enough set-up to benefit from that.

Not to mention the groupings, back biting, under performing and eventual ouster.

no. there's way too much interference and politicking with one coach. let alone having two

Lol have we forgotten the Asia Cup, aside from the CT 2017 win, Mickey Arthur has got nothing to show, we also got whitewashed by NZ in NZ.

Players will pick their favorite coach and side with him and there will be only one coach left after some time.

In an ideal professional world for teams such as South Africa or Australia - yes. Having dual coaches for the different formats and different captains is what I believe will be the key to success in the near future.

Rofl it started with 2 wicketkeepers needed, than 2 captains [replace Sarfraz in test] and now 2 coaches[replace Mickey Arthur in test]. Pakistani media does'nt fail to surprise me the way they try to divert blame away from seniors and selector Inzamam.

What magic can a different coach do on Shafiq, Azhar, Imam, Fakhar, Hafeez and Malik that they change their game form what they've been doing for last 17 months or years?

As they'll be selected anyhow whether the team fails or fails.

This is 3-4 players of the XI what can the coach extract from the others to somehow produce a win from hopeless scenario?
Now the issue should be how to overnight make these cricketers into world-beaters and who one earth can do that.

I don't think so. Coaches really don't have a huge role in cricket compared to managers in football. I think our struggles lie deeper than just 'not having the right coach'

I don't think Mickey has proven himself to be a good coach in the shorter formats. Coaches should be judged on four things.

1. Does there presence improve results? His presence has not produced good results in One Day Cricket. Pakistan is still playing the same style of cricket it did when Waqar Younis was the Head Coach. Even though we are winning T20 Matches, we are winning playing one way. In the long run this will catch up to Pakistan.

2. Does he improve players? The answer to this question is a resounding no. Mickey has not improved any player. Each and every player is either the same or has declined.

3. Has he improved the style of play? The answer to this question is a resounding no. Pakistan plays test cricket like they are timeless tests. Watching Pakistan bat in the shorter formats is excruciating. The bowling is generally monotonous.

4. Has Mickey developed and created a system that will outlive his stay as head coach? The answer to this question is a no. Once Mickey leaves we will start again from 0. He leaves no legacy.

Finally, this is not Mickey's fault. Unlike Pep Guardiola in Football, Cricket Coaches have no coaching identity. The vast majority of them do nothing more than monitor net sessions. Mickey is unfortunately no different. On the coaching front cricket needs a revolution.

I agree completely. At least with him being a foreign coach, an advantage is there is less chance of politics

It wouldn’t work with Pakistan as we play only play a few tests a year. So the test coach would only be around for a few months a year.

I guess its too late now, we have already lost some important test series and till World Cup there are no tests now. Now ODI cricket is do or die for Mickey anyways. If he struggles there as well in upcoming series and World Cup, he us obviously gonna be sacked.

I personally think a coach can make a huge difference to the attitude, strategies and in turn performance of the team.

No cricket nation has the ultimate form of domestic structure, yes we need to improve that but we can easily see Australia which to me atm are worse of then Pakistan and supposedly have the best domestic system.

Its about getting the maximum out of the players you have at hand. NZ with around 4 m of population is a big example.

No .

Work has to be done at lower levels , when you get to International level you need to know your job.
