2-Day practice game between Victoria XI (272/4d) & Pakistan (323 & 57/3) ends in a draw

Last minute practice game was scheduled after the humiliating defeat in the 1st test match at Perth. What good will this game do for Pakistan in the next test at MCG?

I am guessing with Khurram Shahzad out of the picture, Hassan Ali and Wasim Jr will be given a good work out

Hopefully this will work out, given fitness levels of this team, will not result in a breakdown BEFORE the Test!

Pakistan team's practice session in full swings as they prepare for the 2nd test match against Australia at Melbourne.

Shan Masood has to lead from the front , now he is the captain...

If he cannot score runs then no place for him in the squad...

His best record is in LIST-A but some how Pak think tank selects him for Tests and T20Is ....

Notice the paunch belly on jamal and this guy is meant to be a pace bowler

I think the last athlete we really had as a bowler who was extremely fit and of a good build was umar gul.

Shaheen has the genetics but is not making much good use of it.

Hopefully Australian bowlers will only bowl bouncers to our Batters to give them a real test

Feels like some sort of loose net practice - think CA will be kind to Pakistan after their criticism in Canberra.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first

Wahab riaZ strong fast fit. Just no brains as a bowler. Isn't consistent.

Abdullah Shafique gone after scoring 26 runs off 58 balls

Pakistan 47/1 in 17 overs

Imam Ul Haql 26*
Saim Ayub 0*

After 40 overs, Pakistan is 143/3 having a run-rate of 3.58. Rizwan has been displaying a run-a-ball game here till now. Good stuff.

It is very poor stuff from PCB. They should have made some arrangement to telecast this match but now we are stuck.

Saud Shakeel is nearing 50 while a run-a-ball game from Rizwan has now dropped significantly.

This is good batting from Saud Shakeel who got his 50 now and Rizwan as the partnership is 65 runs off 93 balls now.

There have been few boundaries scored every over now as the 2 batters are looking comfortable out there.

Rizwan looks to be earning a spot for himself here. Good stuff from Shakeel too.

Saud and Rizwan are building a solid partnership here at a good rate. The partnership is already 92 runs off 126 balls.

Pakistan goes to tea at 220/3. Saud and Rizwan have put up a 103-run partnership till now. Good batting by both of these batters

Both Rizwan and Saud are retired not out as session 3 started with Salman and Sarfraz on the crease now.

Mohammad Hafeez on the 2-day practice game between Victoria and Pakistan:

“That was something extra we added into the schedule because it wasn’t there earlier,”

“We wanted to have more practice rather than only one practice game. That had first class status, so we couldn’t give all the bowlers the chance to have a feel.

“But that’s the reason we wanted to have that practice game so more of the guys could get a feel for a match scenario. We felt that would work well.”

Hafeez always sound like a person who knows everything and has reason for every failure be it right or wrong, not sure if this is the right approach to direct a team with limited talent and experience

Victoria is going at a good run rate after losing a wicket of Pucovski in the very first over of Shaheen.

strong start in both batting and bowling, impressive.

strong start in both batting and bowling, impressive.
Lol they can compete only with this Victoria and Canberra like teams also cant beat them if played a series..

Against Australia they have no chance and no place to hide from the phainty/humiliation

Saud, Rizwan and Salman hit half-centuries on day one of the practice match against Victoria XI. Enjoy Highlights of Day 1

Rizwan and Saud are playing on the leg side brilliantly, and the pitch doesn't seem bouncy. What is the purpose of the practice match?

Day 2, Session 1 - Victoria XI trail by 276 runs with 9 wickets remaining

Pakistan Men: 323
Victoria XI: 1/47 (12)

MS Harris 18*
BR Thomson 25*

Victoria is going strong atm. Even though they lost their 3rd wicket of Harris who scored 126 runs, they are still in a good position at 252/3 ATM

Hassan Ali came to the party now with a wicket. Victoria is 4 down now.

Pakistan Bowlers are going at more than 4.5 runs per over apart from Salman and Mohammad Wasim. This is not a good sign as the 2nd test is coming up in Melbourne.

Victoria is 272/4 ATM. Looking comfortable as they trail by just 51 runs with 6 wickets in hand.

Victoria delcared their innings at 272/4 as Pakistan will bat again now.

WoW a C league Aussie side on a flat wicket thumping Pakistan team, matter of concern for PCB

Look at the run rate for each bowler, more than 4.5 runs almost. This is not good.

So Shan Masood has opted to open with Abdullah instead of Imam. I guess he missed the chance to bat in the first inning so he wanted to give himself a go here. Good for him to get some game time now.

Pakistan is 18/0 after 3 overs. Good start for them.

Shan Masood is gone for 6. Pakistan is 18/1 now as Sarfraz got a promotion to bat at the number 3 slot.

Pakistan is 3 down now in no time. 1 wicket brought 2 more for Victoria.
Pakistan is 57/3 now.

Pakistan's two-day practice match against Victoria XI ends in a draw

Melbourne, 23 December 2023: The two-day practice match between Pakistan and Victoria XI, played at Junction Oval in Melbourne, resulted in a draw. The previous day saw Pakistan declare their first innings at 323-8, helped by half-centuries by Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha. Dylan Brasher was the other contributor with the bat. He scored an unbeaten half-century (79 not out, 105b, 12x4s), which helped the team reduce the first-innings deficit to 51 runs.

Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mir Hamza and Sajid Ali all returned with a wicket each.

Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique opened the batting for Pakistan in their second innings. Shan fell cheaply to Matthew Fotia. Sarfaraz Ahmed, who replaced Shan on the crease, was dismissed by Sam Elliott for 10.
