Everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong tbh. Literally everything. When Shoaib Malik is your best batsman, you know you are in deep trouble. Just downright humiliating for a fan and performances like these will make fans switch off this team. I doubt many will follow or care about the Australia and New Zealand series anymore.

Unbelivable meltdown. Congratulations Bangladesh for completely outplaying Pakistan. To be honest, we have been outplayed by three out of the four teams we have played in this tournament. Embarrassing. Humiliating.

Yeah this is bad, expect Imam there are no positives at all. Just hope this defeat isn't used as an excuse to bring back Hafeez and Akmals.
 
The question is what actually happened. They came in with self confidence and good form.

It al just fell apart so quick.
 
I wonder whether, in relation to today's match, Pakistan wanted to lose, consciously or sub-consciously, to avoid another inevitable humiliation at the hands of India.
 
their is a reason every team talks about playing one game at a time, but this concept is not known in pakistan. Always do self damage by proclaming themselfs winners

As I said, quite humbling. I guess we had no idea our players were on a mission to prove their fans wrong at pretty much every instance. This tournament was supposed to be a warm-up for the tougher tours to come, but its clear Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England will just man-handle this team to the point where we might be going to the WC with a new captain, coach and chief selector.
 
I had a bad feeling when Mickey Arthur was already talking about taking "revenge" on India when we hadn't played India yet. I wonder how he's feeling right now lol
 
We laugh at Fawad type of players but here we needed such player
We needed proper players rather than so called all rounders
Need to give respect to proper players this is not t20s

That's the sad part. It's unbelievable how bad the meltdown has been though. No one can convince me that the likes of Fakhar, Babar, Shadab, Hasan etc are as bad as they have performed in this tournament.

I'm just glad that I made a decision many years ago not to take Pakistan cricket team so seriously that it hurts -- my strategy as a fan is simple, always expect the worst when Pakistan play and anything else is bonus, accept it and enjoy it because such moments will be few and far in between...

Nah, Imam is quite limited and not good enough against the top teams. Even the positives are demoralizing.
 
There is not a single Cricket fan out there who doubts if Pakistan can win v top sides. Your biggest problem has always been consistency.

Just 5 wins in 22 vs Top 5 sides in ODIs since 2016 should tell you everything. Writing was on the wall for a longtime, folks just chose to overlook it. High of CT win was great but its about time to come off it and tackle the issues head on.

No big deal. The fault is with those knee-jerk fans who let these results affect them. We played the wrong team throughout the Asia Cup and our players were suffering from a loss of confidence.

Besides, the pitches will be completely different for the World Cup next year. I would be worried if we got smashed like this overseas. Everyone knows that the UAE is completely unsuited to Pakistan's game. We need to get them to rehaul the pitches or find a new home venue.

It is a big deal when you are outplayed by Afghanistan and a weakened Bangladesh team. India is a different matter altogether. We have VERY tough tours coming up and I shudder to think whether we'll be whitewashed in pretty much every series. Very disappointed right now.
 
This is what happens when your three best players (Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali), are all out of form at the same time.

I have said all that I have said for a reason, and it has nothing to do with pessism or negativity. I love Pakistan cricket as much as the next person, but I will not call it a quality team until they become one.

We are a mediocre team and mediocre teams have their days, but it is important to not lose perception and to stay grounded.

Our fans have been very arrogant and delusional over the last 12 months and should learn a lesson from this - know your place and don’t mock teams that wipe the floor with you.

But our fans never learn - if we beat a weakened Australia in the UAE Tests, we will start our bhangra again and laugh at India for losing a Test at home to Australia.

Well he was ALWAYS going to be back, it was only a question who would be kicked out to accommodate him. Now there's about 5 possible slots that can be opened up to bring back Hafeez -- from Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Asif Ali, Shadab, Nawaz ---< Hafeez can just pick and choose who he wants to replace I reckon.
 
Hafeez is definitely coming back now. Asif Ali's ODI career is probably over for a little while.

Pak have been humiliated in the Asia cup. But that does not make them a lesser team. They still have the talent to beat good teams on their day. Will always be a dangerous team.

# 1 reason Pakistan failed in Asia cup is Asif Ali. He has a garbage first class average of 21.21 & List A average of 26.11. How did a pathetic batsman like him became a regular in International Side? he hardly even performed against Minnows. but lets play him because he is a Hack

#2 Not Playing Junaid Khan (seriously is Shinwari, M Amir so much better than him )

#3 the Team we played is so different from the Champions trophy team. No Azhar Ali, Imad Wasim, M Hafeez, Junaid Khan (just one match ) no wonder the performance was also very different

Incidentally, the reason Pakistan did so badly, in my opinion, is the absence of Imad Wasim. As far as I am concerned, he is the heart of the ODI team and, unless injured, I cannot understand how he was dropped.

As fans, we are worried about the numerous phaintas we'll be getting on our tougher tours in the coming few months. If you can barely compete with Afghanistan and a weak Bangladesh side, you don't deserve to take the field against Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England.

What a crash from the highs of last year. The calm before the storm.
 
I honestly think pakistan has a good team, easily the best pak team in more than 10 years, based on quality of players and also bench strength . This was juts a bad couple of games where not much went your way. A couple of changes can make this into a very formidable side, one big call would be to drop Sarfaraz which would fix the balance of the side, he's clearly a passenger.

Don't be surprised to see him dropped from T20Is too. You're talking about selectors that are incapable of distinguishing between formats.
 
Yeah, so much so for beating India in the final's but we have to make it to there first :). Another sad day in our cricketing history.

Its strange that the we have been playing here in the UAE for the past decade and yet teams who have been here the first time or after a significant gap are giving us a run for our money. So any amount of chest-thumping would not offset talent and skill in the game. Same old story, same excuses
 
When Pakistan won the CT, their match winners were Fakar, Amir, Hasan and Shadab. All the mentioned youngsters starred then.

Your star batsman (fakr) bats like a tailender.
Hasan Ali reminded me of Dinda and Amir bowled like Sran.

No team can win if their match winners perform like this. Amir was at least keeping it tight even though he does not take any wickets anymore. But Hasan Ali was getting phainties and not many wickets. There is no pressure on opponents during middle overs.

Mohammed Nawaz is not international material.
 
Fakhar is going through 2nd year blues. He needs to sort his game out soon. If he's mentally strong he will. Babar is fine. Imam is a find. He can play a long innings and is a must in a brittle line up like Pak. Sarfraz needs to bat low maybe at 6 and have Malik at 5 and Haris at 4. Bowlers are decent. Fielding is an aberration in this tournament but in general Pak's Fielding has been good.

This has always been the story of Pakistan cricket. Their youngsters win them cricket matches. But very, very rarely do those youngsters improvre over time. In fact, they mostly just get worse wih experience.
 
I had a feeling that this would happen, but everyone will see that in a year's time we will see this same Pakistan team winning the world cup. Just watch and see Pakistan will not perform well in Lois in the but will do better in tests in the upcoming months but in the world cup, everything will change.

This. Lack of consistency, professionalism and tactical mistakes are the main problems. Other team know their strengths and weakness, we don't even study that well let alone studying other teams.
 
So OP, reckon your team could have done good with trundler RP Singh or are you satisfied with the talented and fearsome bunch you have?
 
Fakhar is a hack whether you like to admit it or not. If Shoaib is your clutch player, the guy who debuted in 90’s, is still able to keep himself relevant in Pakistan setup, that speaks volume about batting culture in Pakistan.

I don't have any special powers. Anyone who can view things without bias could tell that Pakistan were heading for a reality check after playing non-stop matches against minnows and weak teams. Next reality check is going to come in T20Is. We are not good enough to sustain our artificial #1 ranking.

This has been the problem with Pakistan Cricket for a while. I stutter to look up when was the last time we truly produced a consistently performing great cricketer, we have the largest pool TTF's, players who look great when they start their careers but fall away because they get found out and worked over by the opposition teams and do not improve their games and regress.

Has happened to the likes of Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad, Nasir Jamshed and is now happening to Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq (in odis atleast).

This isn't a reality check for Pakistan. This is a disgusting performance that should hurt even the most devoted of fans.

Awful awful mentality shown by every single player on the pitch and the team management. You can fix technical, tactical issues but the issue of mentality is deeply engraved in Pakistan cricket culture now and sadly paints a dour picture for the future.
 
The 5-0 in NZ series should have been enough to wake up. However lucky for the fans and players alike with had a 5 match ODI series against Zimbabwe where Fakhar absolutedbfeasted on them and middle to lower order never really had to bat. Which give us a false sense of strength.

I still think we need to be patient with Fakhar and Babar. While Sarfraz and the lower order needs to be tinkered with.

There is a difference between being optimistic and outright delusional. We as fans do tend overestimate our abilities.

Hafeez can comeback all he wants. The fans don't have a personal vendetta against him. For Pakistan's sake I hope he turns out half as useful as Malik. However my assessment is he is done and we should rather invest and fail with a new player than a player whose career is standing on the last leg.
 
Truly abysmal performance. Seeing other teams were Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Hing Kong our performance has been embarrassing. We did not defeat even one good side in the entire tournament.

Yeah it was a bubble that brusted. The inflated confidence came from beating a team like Zimbabwe 5-0 where 90% of the time Fakhar was the one who batted while the middle and lower order never had to lift the bat. Then add the fact that even against Zimbabwe champion bowler Amir had a bad output.

Now in the Asia Cup we saw that Fakhar wasn't Abel to get going and the rest of the team crumbled just like that with Malik showing a bit backbone.

All we had to do was think about the time before the Zimbabwe series: 5-0 against NZ.

I still don't think it is the end of it. I am glad we at least had a side we newish players and very little of the Shehzads, Akmals and Hafeez. Now it is a matter of staying patience and showing them support while making slight changes.
 
You people are massively overrating this. Fact is Pakistan deservedly won the Champions Trophy, but thats tournament sport for one, teams that on paper arent the best come into their stride and handle the pressure better than others and outperform their expectations.

Fact is every side in this tournament was evenly matched, aside arguably from India who have, Afghanistan aside, won every match without too much worry.

Bangladesh are a useful ODI side, Afghanistan have arguably the best spin attack in the world. Pakistan lost twice to India without much of a fight, and lost a very close game to Bangladesh. Had Pakistan been trounced all round the board I could see the reasons for pessimism but fact is prior to a WC its necessary to identify the weaknesses and work on them and look past the results. Amir was one obvious weakness and he should be discarded from the format for the time being, Junaid looks good again, Shadab is still good. The batting could also do with some work.

Fact is though Pakistan win today they make the final, which is a decent return considering Bangladesh and Afghanistan are certainly no pushovers, ultimately they lost a game due to missing out on the big moments and letting BD off the hook early on, it happens, move on to the next assignment instead of proclaiming the end times over a couple of losses.

That said anyone whos rational knows Pakistan aint favourites going into the WC, dark horses more accurate.
 
We were favourites going into this tournament, and that's a fact.

Ask the SL coach or anyone, but the general vibes were that we were favourites.

We played poorly and underperformed drastically. We were outplayed.

Both these sets of facts can coexist.

No one was being arrogant.

Unfortunately, Inzi will put his foot down even more so now, and Hafeez will be preferred over any other youngster. Already there is noise from various sections of the media for including Hafeez, as a senior player provides valuable input to the team. It's sad how vicious the cycle is for Pakistan cricket, but the younger players have to take these opportunities with full hands. It was embarrassing for us to send in Shadab ahead of Asif Ali, who is apparently playing as a specialist batsman. Pretty much everyone wanted Shadab to come before him, which questions the ability of a specialist batsman.

To me, your batsmen play the same way as before and your fielding is still the same.Even your U19 teams field poor and that shows the problem lies in your domestic.
Some poster was telling in another thread that even your NCA has lack of bowling machines.You cant produce quality batsmen with such system.Need to fix and invest more in your domestic system to produce good batsmen and better fielders.

The losses to India have been over-shadowed by the nonsense performances against Afghanistan and Bangladesh. I can understand the system not being good enough to compete against a professional side like India, but what I cannot accept is how our cricketers were made to look like a bunch of fools by an associate and a struggling team which did not have two of its main players :facepalm:

I still can’t get over what just happened. Feels like a nightmare.

Didnt you always struggled batting second even against minnows? I remember Afridi getting you out of some difficult situations against Bangladesh.You always had great bowlers.But batting and fielding is where you struggled.

We struggled, but not like this. This 37-run loss was a thrashing. Imam’s soft runs made it look closer than it actually was. Pakistan was pretty much done and dusted when Malik got out. Add to that, the embarrassment against Afghanistan. Had Aftab Alam kept his cool and not bowled two filthy deliveries, Pakistan would have been going home with just one win from five matches :facepalm:

Being optimistic is not wrong but arrogance and neglecting others is another level. Every fan should avoid it.
 
One thing it has done, there will be no taunts of "India is scared of playing us in UAE"
 
I don't think we should judge Pakistan harshly here. It was just one of those days when nothing went well for the team.

Let's not forget the core of the same team was there in CT17 where Pakistan defeated and humiliated India.

Let's not be over critical of the team.
