Like some ex cricketer said on a tv analysis which I saw after the Eng-Pakistan game.
First and foremost, To change or improve, one has to accept there is a problem.
From what I observed on this forum, the bowling attack is still considered best in world and pace bowling is the only real bowling, while anyone bowling below 150k are trundling and do not deserve wickets. Nothing can be farther from truth. The excuse given is Naseem was injured or else all would be fine.
India got genuine pace bowlers who could bowl 149+ after decades ( Umran Malik, Arron and one more guy i cant remember) ...but what did India do? Gave them some chances, decided they were erratic and would be expensive and dropped them. They stuck to late 130s to early 140s speed bowlers who were more accurate and understood what length to bowl and when to bowl which delivery. The pace is pace yaar concept was not sold as it is ''blindly sold'' concept with fans here.
Yes no doubt pace is exciting to watch but wickets are more important in overall result. I have never understood why Wahab's spell in 2015 is looked upon as a glorious moment. He was negotiated successfully by Shane Watson for 3 odd overs but fact is he failed to get him out and lost the game.
Result: in 9 league games India got opposition out 8 times out of 9. Yes pace matters but a difference of 5 to 10k does not matter, if the faster ones are spray guns. People here will not like me saying this, but SSA has only 1 strategy...bowl an
in swinging Yorker length to openers in first 3 overs. It worked for few matches and then the #Theycantplayhim term was coined and people here believed that would stay true forever. Within space of five games he was figured out it is now #TheycantWAitToplayhim.
Lastly, at cost of being very unpopular here, the mercurial team concept which fans love( 1 min up 1 min down theory) is nothing but ''bitter truth coated with sugar''. The bitter truth is "inconsistent" team. And that's why most tournament campaigns end up in NRR chases or '' if team A will loose to team B scenarios '' over and over again , year after year.
