Asia Cup 2023 - biggest disaster ever for Pakistan cricket?

I just hope the Asia Cup was a wake-up call.

It was a lesson in which areas need improvement, a lesson in weaknesses within the squad, a lesson in how to improve the planning. It was also a reminder of what Babar Azam needs to improve upon in his captaincy.

The weaknesses are glaringly obvious, let's see if they are improved upon.
The weaknesses won't be improved upon.

England literally dropped Jason Roy from the squad for not performing with Butler even saying he did it for the team.

Babar can't drop his friends nor will our management.

It was just an event that exposed our skills in the ODI format.
Wc exposed it more. In asia cup everyone was hiding behind the jetlag excuse lol.

No one wanted to admit that India was leaps and shoulders ahead of us.

Before this cup, I remember comments saying Asia cup would be a walk in the park for Pakistan to win

Very true.

From the post match conference against sl babar was still defending shadab and nawaz which suggest that both will be picked for worldcup .atleast one of them should be dropped and replace by someone like imad .if this doesnot happen we are doomed
Wow when posters know better than management my GOD!

Man so many posters in Sept highlighted the genuine issues which were swept under the carpet and came back to haunt PCT..@pakfan54588 post is from sept lol Shadab and Nawaz combined took a total of 4 wickets in the entire wc on spinning pitches how ridiculous is that

Like some ex cricketer said on a tv analysis which I saw after the Eng-Pakistan game.

First and foremost, To change or improve, one has to accept there is a problem.

From what I observed on this forum, the bowling attack is still considered best in world and pace bowling is the only real bowling, while anyone bowling below 150k are trundling and do not deserve wickets. Nothing can be farther from truth. The excuse given is Naseem was injured or else all would be fine.

India got genuine pace bowlers who could bowl 149+ after decades ( Umran Malik, Arron and one more guy i cant remember) ...but what did India do? Gave them some chances, decided they were erratic and would be expensive and dropped them. They stuck to late 130s to early 140s speed bowlers who were more accurate and understood what length to bowl and when to bowl which delivery. The pace is pace yaar concept was not sold as it is ''blindly sold'' concept with fans here.

Yes no doubt pace is exciting to watch but wickets are more important in overall result. I have never understood why Wahab's spell in 2015 is looked upon as a glorious moment. He was negotiated successfully by Shane Watson for 3 odd overs but fact is he failed to get him out and lost the game.

Result: in 9 league games India got opposition out 8 times out of 9. Yes pace matters but a difference of 5 to 10k does not matter, if the faster ones are spray guns. People here will not like me saying this, but SSA has only 1 strategy...bowl an
in swinging Yorker length to openers in first 3 overs. It worked for few matches and then the #Theycantplayhim term was coined and people here believed that would stay true forever. Within space of five games he was figured out it is now #TheycantWAitToplayhim.

Lastly, at cost of being very unpopular here, the mercurial team concept which fans love( 1 min up 1 min down theory) is nothing but ''bitter truth coated with sugar''. The bitter truth is "inconsistent" team. And that's why most tournament campaigns end up in NRR chases or '' if team A will loose to team B scenarios '' over and over again , year after year.

Yes, I agree with you that we have to move away from the mindset that a bowler bowling at 150+ kph is automatically a great bowler. We've witnessed how Haris Rauf has been smashed in international cricket, even setting a record by conceding 500+ runs.

I believe technique is the key, as seen with Mohammad Asif. His potency wasn't in fast deliveries, yet many players rank him as one of the most difficult bowlers in history.

Or Glenn McGrath... he was decent speed not superfast but when he bowled one always got the feeling a wicket is due anytime....
