What's new

24 probables announced by the PCB for the ODI series against NZ (Fakhar Zaman & Haris Sohail added)

If BoomBoom picks this 16 man squad he’ll go down as the GOAT CS.

Babar Azam (c)
Shadab Khan (vc)
Fakhar Zaman
Sharjeel Khan
Mohammad Haris (wk)
Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
Tayyab Tahir
Qasim Akram
Haris Sohail
Aamer Jamal
Abrar Ahmed
Shaheen Afridi
Naseem Shah
Haris Rauf
Shahnawaz Dahani
Mohammad Wasim

Rizwans ODI record is very poor for the last 3 years.. he should be dropped..

He avgs only 24 in last 3 years and only 17.87 in Pakistan which is more bad.. cant rely on him to bat in home ground also... Time to change..

How can u drop an opener like Imam , this is an ODI lineup..
Last 1 year he has avg 70+ at an improved SR of 94.74 with 2 hundreds against Aus... not stat-padding minnows. For a team that has zero resources in batting cannot afford to drop batters like Imam..

Aamer Jamal just another one match wonder ,not sure why was he picked without enough experience.. Cant see any notable performances in ongoing Pak cup.

Abrar Ahmed need experience , wont be selected when Nawaz and Shadab are doing a better job in both bowling , batting..

My 16 would be,,

Sharjeel
Fakhar
Imam
Babar
Kamran
Haris Sohail
Haris (wk)
Agha Salman
Qasim
Nawaz
Shadab
Wasim jnr
Naseem
Haris
Dahani
Tayyab Tahir

You need a back up WK, which is Rizwan.

Regarding Imam, those 2 hundreds and an 89* came against a bowling attack that had no Starc, No Cummins and No Hazelwood. Even Babar scored a century at a SR of 137, which says a lot. 95% of the times he’s played against Aus it’s been against a weaker bowling attack. His career average drops from 52 to 41 if you check his stats against the top 4 (Eng, NZ, Ind, SA). 41.52 @ 78…I’m sure we don’t need another Azhar Ali for ODI’s.

Nawaz won’t bowl 10 overs, he hardly ever bowls 4 in T20i’s. We don’t need two spin bowling all rounders in the side, just pick a specialist spinner, it’ll strengthen the bowling attack.

1. Sharjeel
2. Saim
3. Babar
4. Rizwan
5. Fakhar
6. Qasim
7. Nawaz
8. Shadab
9. Shaheen
10 Naseem
11 Haris

Reserves

Husnain
Dahani
Abrar
M. Haris
Tayyab Tahir
Imam

There is no mention of Fakhar Zaman being injured like Shaheen? Is really dropped from the ODI team?

Khusdhil Shah has done well in ODIs. He finished two matches well(vs Australia and West Indies), don't understand him being dropped

It is high time we have one group of players for white ball. If a player isnt good for T20, that player shouldnt be picked for ODI either. This will avoid confusion and encourage clarity.

So basically he's only dropped Khushdil and Zahid Mehmood -- two very poor selections across last year -- and added deserving names/ young Players Babar did not want.

So one man show of Babar is over. It was widely reported Babar did not want players like Shan Masood or Imad Wasim in squads, and got his way with selections everytime..

The real test would be how does Afridi trim this squad down. I'd pick:

1. Sharjeel Khan - destructive modern day opener
2. Fakhar - our best opener over recent years
3. M Haris (wk) - another modern day player
4. Babar Azam - pure batter to free him up (often plays within himself due to captaincy/stat-padding),
5. Kamran Ghulam - solid middle order batter,
6. Haris Sohail - another solid middle order batter,
7. M Nawaz - aggressive; can be floated up at 5 or 6 if closer to death overs,
8. Shadab (c) - best captaincy material from permanent players,
9. M Hasnain - fastest bowler in Pakistan, very good in death overs, should not be given new ball, far better than fake all-rounder MW
10. Haris Rauf,
11. Naseem Shah

Abrar Ahmed - for real spinning pitch can replace one pacer or injured spinner,
Imam-ul-Haq - too slow for modern day but cannot drop him for his average beefed up by bashing minnows,
Mohammad Rizwan - best behind stumps, can replace M Haris if later is found to have buttery fingers,
Shahnawaz Dahani - back up pacer with good height and skills,
Shan Masood - has been phenomenal in domestics

That's my 16.

I would replace Kamran ghullam with Tayyab Tahir

My final 16

Imaam
Fakhar
Sharjeel
Babar Azam
Haris sohail
Tayyab Tahir
Rizwan
Muhammed Harris
Shadab
Nawaz
Dahani
Rauf
Wasim Jnr
Abrar
Shan Masood
Kamran Ghullam

Imaam
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Tayyab Tahir
Muhammed Haris
Shadab
Nawaz
Wasim Jnr
Rauf

Everyone and their dog have been selected but no place for the guy who fits the role of an ODI player better than almost everyone in Pakistan aka M. Hurraira!

What is Abdullah Shafique, Shaan Masood, or Salman Agha doing in the squad instead of Hurraira is anyone's guess!

Isn’t Huraira more of a test opener? He’s hardly played any List A.

Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi will resume his rehabilitation under the national men’s team’s medical staff in Karachi from today. While providing Shaheen top-notch care, this move will allow the medical staff to track his progression and pave way for his smooth return to action.

Meanwhile, the interim selection committee and team management have invited right-arm fast bowler Haris Rauf to be assessed by the team’s medical staff so a decision on his availability for the three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand - to be played next week - can be made.

Only 5 days left , or is he still thinking of adding 2-3 more players in the probables list.
