27th November 2014: One of the saddest days in cricket as Phillip Hughes passes away

Wow! I'm shocked!! Not even for one second I thought he won't recover.
I always liked him. Wanted him to be in Australian team.
RIP Hughes.

Really sad news.
I hope he Rest in Peace and condolences to his family and friends.

On of the most Shocking ! Sports death

RIP Phil and all the prayers are with his family.

Cant believe he was only 25.. seems like he is been around the aussie team forever.. Sad Day!

I cannot believe he passed away. I had high hope that he would recover. I find it very hard to believe Hughes is not alive anymore. Cricket won't be same after this. I feel bad for Abbot. The life won't be same for Abbot after this.

May he rest in peace.

really didn't expect he would pass....i felt he might never play cricket again but i didnt expect him to pass away....

My deepest condolences.

This is such a sad, sad day.

May his soul test in peace. Ameen

Deepest condolences really shocked and don't have words to express.

May he Rest in Peace. It is a shock for entire cricketing world.

This is just such a shock. I can't work at office, forget about the cricket players who're supposed to go out and play.
Spare a thought for Abbott! Poor guy must be devastated! i heard he's his former team mate too.

If this does not signal the end of 'the bouncer'...nothing will.

I am in genuine shock and cannot believe today's news.

I hope and pray that Phil Hughes family and friends can overcome the grief and that Sean Abbott can overcome the trauma and devastation he must be feeling right now.

RIP Phil Hughes. Will always remember his debut series v SAfrica and his partnership with Agar in the Ashes. Utterly shocked by this news. Condolences to his family and friends, and ofcourse heart goes out to Abbott who was just doing his job

One of the worst days in cricket history

Woke up to check score and saw this instead, brought a tear to my eye.

RIP Phil, such a sad day for all cricket followers.

I'm lost for words.

I cannot believe his gone. Feel numb and cannot fathom it.

My condolences to his family and friends and of course the Australian users om here.

My humble advice and hope is that PP change their banner to acknowledge Phil Hughes. Please.

I am totaly shocked. Was hoping that he will pull through.
RIP Hughes...world cricket will miss you.

Such a young age to die? Rip, phil, I have my condolences for u and ur family.

RIP Phil Hughes

This is incredibly sad, really didn't expect him to pass. Thoughts and prayers with his loved ones.

immensely brave of clarke to give that statement....he barely made it through that minute.

Lets get hughsey on the banner at Pakpassion to pay him a tribute....i second sherlock on that.

Can't believe this. Shocking. :(
Very sad day for cricket

Poor Sean Abbot as well.

I feel such sadness, like others.
I followed his debut through headlines and recall thinking he is the second coming of Slater: ferocious on anything short.
He was young, aggressive, and paid no heed to reputations in that series.
Everything about him screamed out 'the Aussie way': tough and uncompromising.
As with any debut so bright, there are bound to be tough days and same was the case for Hughes.
Yet, for a selectoral system that is so ruthless (if you flounder there are five guys ready to take your space) he was never completely banished to domestic cricket: for sure he put in the hard yards to stay in contention, and more importantly demonstrated the willingness to stay engaged. It won him backers, and fans.
I really feel that the coming series was going to cement his place in Australian cricket.
Instead I feel a lump in my throat and a hole inside for someone I barely knew.
Rest in peace, little brother, you have left your mark on all of us.

BLACKCAPS statement on passing of Phillip Hughes

BLACKCAPS Coach Mike Hesson has released the following statement on behalf of the Test squad in Sharjah, UAE.

Hesson said the entire cricket community was reeling from the news of Phillip Hughes’ death.

“Today isn’t about cricket, it’s about Phil,” said Hesson.

“Like the rest of the cricketing family, the BLACKCAPS players and management are devastated to hear about Phil’s tragic passing. It’s an unthinkable loss and I can tell you it’s an incredibly sombre dressing room right now.”

“To those who were close to Phillip, we extend our deepest sympathies. Our thoughts are with you during this extremely difficult time.“

RIP phillip. Never thought for a minute that this injury could prove fatal. Such a sad day for his family , friends and every cricket loving person.

R.I.P. you little champ! Feel absolutely gutted for Phil's family and friends. And all those involved in the game. Cannot fathom what they must be feeling right now. Sad day for cricket. :(

Speechless.

Poor young Abbott, hope he finds the strength to come back stronger.

First loss of life on a cricket field after I started watching the game..

Extremely sad, RIP Phil! Can't imagine what the bowler would be going through.

RIP Hughes! Shocked to hear about this. I can only imagine the trauma Abbott is going through though. I hope CA authorises counselling sessions for him. Its difficult yo recover from an incident like this.

What a sad day for all of us, RIP Phil - Sincere Condolences to his family & friends and may they have the strength needed to go through these trying times.

Would always remember Hughsey - A true Legend of the game

Condolences Thread: Phillip Hughes Passes Away

Today I woke up to one of the worst news ever! I simply don´t know how to react, and what should really be my reaction? There´s this heavy burden on my heart which doesn´t seem to go away. It´s a sickening feeling! And it was feared.... Just yesterday I was talking to my brother-in-law about Philip Hughes´ condition and I related to him in a very hopeless manner that his condition hasn´t improved even one bit.

None of us can even imagine what his family will be going through right now. His mother and sister were in the crowd I read the other day. What a dreaded sight they got to see!

You will be missed, Phil. The whole world is shocked, devastated and mourning your death.

I'm just too devastated to say anything right now.

I just thought he'd made it

This is too devastating, just goes to show how unpredictable life is.

Loved watching him bat and in my view was the greatest batting talent Australia produced since Ponting.

RIP.

Cannot believe the news, 25 is no age to go. He was a very talented young man and I cannot imagine what his family must be going through. Very shocked and saddened. RIP.

Extremely Saddened by this news, I always felt he will pull through and make an inspiring comeback to Australian team fully fit but life is unpredictable :(:(

God bless.. RIP Phillip Hughes...Praying for your family and friends

extremely shocking news and am very sad to hear this. my condolonces to his family and RIP to him.

Poor guy.

Let's celebrate him though. I remember he was quite tickled by something Kerry O'Keefe said at the time when Hughes kept getting caught at third slip by Martin Guptill off Chris Martin:

“If Phillip Hughes gets a nick whilst shaving, I bet Martin Guptill suddenly appears out of the medicine cabinet with a band-aid at the ready!”

We've all got to go one day. Let's just be glad that he died doing what he loved, on the verge of a Test recall, and to my knowledge there are no kids to suffer the premature loss of their dad.

And as I wrote elsewhere, many thanks to Michael Clarke for his support for the family these last two days.

Only 100 recorded incidences of this type of injury anywhere- only one from a cricket ball.

Just horrible

Not for one second did I doubt that he'd eventually recover from this, let alone pass away.

Deeply shocked and saddened. RIP :(

I iust woke up and heard the news here in Boston. RIP mate. I never met you but I felt like I knew you from your NSW days through to your selection for Australia through your battles from then on. It felt like you were one of us, a bloke struggling to make good. Now it looks like God has chosen you for His team up there and I know you will be an All Star. Rest in peace and keep hitting them to Heavens boundary Phil.

Well that just makes it even more of a freak incident.

Just so unfortunate and tragic.

R.I.P. Hughes

I, like many others have been mistakenly tagging the only verified 'Phil Hughes' on Twitter, who by the way is a baseball player from the US.

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. My thoughts to his family. This account is not his however.
— Phil Hughes (@PJHughes45) November 27, 2014

Just a shoutout - Hughes didn't have a Twitter handle.

Sincere condolences guys. Absolutely horrible couple of days for all cricket fans around the world. Very very sad.

In all reality that photo is basically the moment he died, modern medicine kept him technically alive after but he was never coming back, i really don't think we nee to see that picture anymore.

Apologies about the picture. I just wanted to confirm his achievements mentioned

Tragic day for the whole game. Condolences to to his family and all the Aussies who post here. The bowler must be feeling awful as well so hope he deals with it in time.

RIP.

I am truly shocked. He was truly a very talented player and died doing what he loved, but he went too early. Also feel very bad for Sean Abbot. Hopefully he and Philip's family can move on. RIP Philip Hughes.

The cricketing fraternity will sorely miss Phillip Hughes.

I remember when he first burst onto the intl. scene against SA in SA and immediately I thought to myself, he will be a future Australian great but sadly, he is gone and he had so much to give to the cricketing world.

Devastating news , thoughts go out to his family , friends and young Sean abbot , Feels like a loss of a loved one , a sad day indeed:)
RIP Hughesy u lil champion .

On behalf of the Aussie posters here, thanks everyone for the kind words, thoughts and condolences.

This will take all Australian cricket fans - and all cricket fans - some time to process and grieve for one of our own.
