Big day for Pakistan cricket, all the shops were closed everywhere... but the Indian team proved much bigger and better than our team... the quality of their team was top draw and they deserved to win the world cup that year..
Our team had alot of oldies that carried forward from our t20 world cup win in 2009, but they were nowhere near the level required to sustain the pressure of such a big occassion, Indians held their nerves much better despite being under severe pressure from home team
The day when it dawned on me that the streak would never ever end.
Just before Shafiq's dismissal, Nicholas and Ramiz were talking about who is favourites at this point. Both agreed that Pakistan is slightly ahead. I was skeptical since Younis has sucked the momentum by then and you could sense that a wicket is just around the corner. And then Shafiq got out on the next ball
Although Misbah gets most of the flak for his slow paced innings but there were many culprits in that game. Younis, Gul, Afridi, Razzaq and also Hafeez, Kamran and Umar to a lesser extent.
The superior team won at the end but we had been in a better position multiple times in the match and lost the grip because of our own mistakes.
I think Misbah played quite well , considering Pakistan's propensity to collapse. Afridi and Umar Akmal had to stick around and they just left their cricketing brain in the locker room
Umar akmal got a good ball iirc
actually he had a solid WC
Main culprits before Misbah were YK and Shafiq as they ate up a lot of balls
It was a wierd match for me
Woke up at 4am to watch match with like 4 Pakistanis and 10 indians
I think we did well to restrict them to 260 odd.
And i watched like half hour of Pak batting with Kamran and Hafeez doing well.
Left to take a 2 hr exam
as soon as i got out checked score on my old blackberry
we were 100 odd for 6 (?) and my heart sank. Went to class

I always expected India to win that WC, just look at that batting lineup. I felt it was destiny, especially with home advantage.
For all the flak Misbah gets, I cannot forget how poorly both Hafeez and Kamran gave their wickets away after a great start. Younis and Shafiq then ground the innings to a halt.
Bangalore 1996 hurts a lot more. Many tipped us to defend our title, we had a very solid batting lineup and experienced players. However Ajay Jadeja mauled Waqar in those death overs, I mean he hit everything that moved.
Anwar and Sohail got us to an absolute flyer. We were 113-2 after 15 overs - we can't match that pace now even in T20s ! They and Ijaz threw their wickets away like imbeciles whilst the middle order choked.

The match will forever be remembered for Afridi's daughter's comments about Misbah![]()

I know that feeling, have been there so many times in my life. I remember Sachin getting out first over in 2003 and it was not possible to watch the match after that, and focusing on anything after that (even if you shut down the TV). You tend to shut off from reality for a few days till it sinks in. The perils of being over attached to this sport!
India beats in World Cup all the time. Not sure why this is more unique than any other occasion
1. This was a semi-final
2. Read 1
so what?
Ed Hawkins won a major literary award for "Bookie Gambler Fixer Spy" in which he stated that before Pakistan batted he was given (by a bookie) the details of Pakistan's innings in 10 over increments in terms of both score and fall of wickets.Fishy fishy knock from Misbah.

And the prediction was correct for all five moments in the innings.
To the best of my knowledge, none of the batsmen have ever been required to answer questions about this. And almost all of them are still in the Test or ODI squad.
I make no accusations. But I am baffled that the charges were cleared by lawyers for publication in Ed Hawkins' book, yet the PCB has not merely failed to investigate, it has retained the batsmen concerned in positions of authority.
Even more shockingly, two of them also performed badly in the tainted Sri Lanka Tests in 2009 and in the Sydney Test which Mazhar Majeed has confessed to fixing. And one is already in the West Indies with the other about to follow.

Still hurts. Only a world cup win in a semi no less will avenge this
Without question, the biggest cricket match ever. Before that i had Centurion-2003 on top of my list but the experience of 2011 semi-final surpassed the emotions of 2003.
To be fair, tables had turned by 2011 and while Pakistan were a mediocre bunch to have made it to semi-finals, India fielded arguably their best ODI unit ever. Nonetheless Ajmal and Wahab's spells were top notch and if not for the pressure of the occasion and Pakistan having a backward mentality in chasing, they should have chased that down with ease in Mohali.
Yoni and Misbah going into shell in the crucial middle overs of the match was disgraceful to say the least.
Out of the 22 players that took the field, around 20 were crapping their pants. I haven’t seen many games where both teams are under so much stress.
The week long hype, the media pressure and the expectations of the fans had completely overwhelmed the players.
It was the biggest ODI match in history of Pakistan and India rivalry, and bigger than the prospected final.
India were always favorites against Sri Lanka, and I don’t think the latter would have stopped Pakistan from winning the World Cup had they triumphed against India in the SF. In some ways, it was the World Cup final.
India played a poor game of cricket but Pakistan played a terrible game of cricket. I believe that had either team held their nerve, they would have smashed the other.
Only sporting contest that made me have a nervous breakdown.
Who were the ones not crapping there pants? I would say Raina, Sehwag, Wahab, Nehra, Harbhajan.
Raina deserved the man of the match though. Played a memorable innings that helped India set a target of 260+ instead of 220.
For me, the difference between the two sides was Raina. He played a remarkable innings under pressure and he did it again four years later. A genuine match-winner.
Sehwag’s onslaught set the tone, but he feasted on some terrible bowling by Gul. Raina took the attack to the bowlers when they were on top.
Totally agree. He's been one of the most selfless cricketers I've seen.
So many times he walked out to give his all to the team without worrying about his own statistics. Especially during pressure situations when even many "greater" players prefer the safety-first approach (save yourself first and then think about the team).
Love such players. I have a special respect for them.
Raina in current team? Thanks, but no thanks. with great difficulty, we've got rid of him and now its better if he stays away from the team.Raina’s contribution has gone unnoticed at times because he has always been surrounded by 4-5 superstars. If he was in Pakistan or Sri Lanka, he would me treated like a king.
Notwithstanding his fitness issues, India should back him ahead of the likes of Rayudu and Karthik. He is levels above both.

India's Eng ODI series loss is on him and usual suspect, Dhoni.
Dropping Raina for a youngsters with great potential such as Gill, Shaw, Pant, Samson etc. would be justified. However, I don’t see any purpose in keeping him out of the side for the likes of Rayudu and Karthik.
The chances of him playing valuable, high impact knocks are much higher.
Just because Karthik and Rayudu are duds, doesn’t mean we replace him with another dud.Dropping Raina for a youngsters with great potential such as Gill, Shaw, Pant, Samson etc. would be justified. However, I don’t see any purpose in keeping him out of the side for the likes of Rayudu and Karthik.

Worst possible day.Earned Misbah his notorious title.
Should have won this though.
First time i cried for cricket.Absolutely heartbroken i was after this match, especially more so when India lifted the World Cup couple days later![]()
If anyone ask me what's my happiest moment ever , I'd say the uprooting of that middle stump after Asad Shafiq missed a Yuvraj Singh delivery on that glorious night in Chandigarh. Nothing tops that . Absolutely nothing.

Lol wasn’t the match in Mohali?
Nothing hurts me more than this loss. I remember I was 13 in Pakistan on holiday and glued to the TV. Dropping Sachin over and over was killing me but the feeling when afridi finally took the catch omg.
We was on track to win this game. Had Umar Akmal stayed for another 5 overs we would of won. Simple as that.
To this day I can’t go back and watch this game it hurts that’s much.
Beauty of sport. Evokes such emotions.
Lol wasn’t the match in Mohali?
i think mine would be amir beating kohli with one ball, getting him out and then azhar dropping the catch and then getting him out again twice in two balls
