One has to feel for this guy, he keeps on performing but for some odd reason he doesn't get picked for Pakistan.

We don't really want to be in a situation where we select him and he is successful, then the PCB is going to regret not picking him earlier.
 
Really is a massive disappointment that he was ignored from the test squad again ... Eng tour I understood as Inzi had just come but he's had a few months to settle in now and to not finally reward Sadaf is plain maddening.

He is easily better then Rahat, Imran Jr. and Riaz. May even be better then Amir and Sohail yet not getting picked. Really ridiculous!
 
There is def some lobbying going on against him. That seems to be the only explanation for him being ignored.

Till last year he wasn't even getting that despite topping charts since 2010

He's a much better bowler than Amir but always gets ignored as there is no concept of merit in Pakistan cricket.
 
Feel so bad for this guy.

I'd be willing to bring him in for any pacer at the moment, bar Amir.
 
Sadaf has a lot to improve on before he even thinks about playing for Pakistan. He is the same guy who fainted during a regular fitness test.
 
Four wicket in a spell of non-stop 11 overs today, giving away only 14 runs against a decent Karachi side, the guy has been doing exceptionally well for quite a while, don't know what has he actually done to see such a fate?

What world people live in? Waiting for the day when he gets a chance with the kookabura ball, against international bats on proper pitches.

All the hype, we'd see that day. I've seen this enough number of times to know how it'll pan out.
 
To answer some of the things already stated plus a few that will come:

1. His speed is not 120. He bowls around the range of 135.
2. He has performed on batting friendly wickets.
3. He has performed with Kookaburra ball.
4. His is a proper no. 11 with the bat, but it's not like we never gave any chances to Irfan, Junaid, IK jr, Talha etc.
5. Nobody is saying he will set the world on fire, but it's unfair to keep him out on the basis of assumptions. Should be given a fair chance. Whether or not he is good enough, we will know only when he plays.
6. If you keep him out, you are disregarding your whole system. Might as well abolish first class tournaments then and select players by holding trials.

Getting picked at the PSL draft is his best bet. Someone really doesn't like him at the PCB so I doubt he's going to be picked for Pakistan unless he gets a lot of exposure at the PSL.

with 120 kph pies, why ppl lose their wickets to him in domestic...Is he playing against school kids... he is bowler and will take wickets why u need runs to select him... Mcgrath, Donald , Ambrose, Waqar didnt score runs to be selected or be in the team... even now irfan didnt score any runs to be in the side...

Pathetic with these lazy ******** who do nothing but take wickets season in and season out. I mean who do they think they are, bowlers? :D
 
Really feel for this guy, no merit driven selection at all for our pacers. Lol at some of the excuses people come up with to not have him in the side. Don't know how he bowls but he must have something to have such a beastly average, and if you never try him, you won't know.

Tabish the top wicket taker uptil noe bowling on fresh wicket got 3-70. He has already got 3 fivefers and 1 tenfer and on the same wicket bowling second Sadaf has taken 4-14 uptil now. He must build it up from here and be amongst top 3 wicket takers of QEA somehow. Surely He will be picked than.


Did he take 4 wickets in Nets the day Inzamam attended Camp ? If Yes Inzamam must tell press or electronic media that why He did not pick Sadaf ?


Sadaf is better than Azizullah & Bilawal Bhatti for sure and for me he is even better than Mir Hamza on pitches which aren't made for pacers.

It is simply mind-boggling how he hasn't been picked for even Pakistan A or even the PSL with those stats. His stats are unreal.

Pakistan have played so many crap bowlers in recent years. Why not give this guy a chance even if he is a trundler?
 
Even if he was picked for the PSL people could see and judge for themselves whether he is any good. How has he been ignored by all the teams with those stats? It is one of cricket's greatest mysteries.

Sadaf is not in the same league as Amir! Amir is at least 10 times better. I have seen both guys bowl live recently. Seriously, Sadaf is not an international bowler. Give Amir time! The expectations are unrealistic. He has been bowling quite well. He needs some luck and a 5 wicket haul to get him going, Inshallah, he will be our best bowler v Aussies. Yes - he may not get back to 2010 levels - but he can still be a world class bowler given time and luck.

Both Tabish and Sadaf deserve to make the squad, right? I mean, Tabish has crraazzzyy stats and we've even got tapes of him bowling quick and swinging the ball.

No not a mystery at all.

A host of different reasons could of course conspire.

But central among them: it is a matter of public record, on hand from Cricinfo, that PCB official Shakeel Shaikh has it in for Sadaf.

The real mystery is why people pretend as if this had not been revealed.

I presume this is how corruption survives. As in the story of the Emperor's New Clothes, people know not to say anything, eventually they can no longer see it, and find their own rationalizations.

Thus, maybe Shan Masood did not really deserve a call up, but he is a well spoken and enthusiastic young man. His average isn't that bad. Do we really have better options? Ok so maybe we do. But he should have his chance and it is not his fault that his father is influential.

Yeah both do. Also Ali Pasha. I like Imran and feel that he's been hard done by in selection - he's done very well when given the chance to play. But enough with mediocrities like Rahat. All these people in domestics are clearly better than him.

Where he really stands out from the pack, as far as contenders like Hamza are concerned, is ODIs. Pakistan is trawling the depths in this form, yet they can't bring themselves to give even one game to the best domestic LOI bowler in recent memory.
 
He should think of playing for another region. Get out of Islamabad/Pindi.
 
poor guy has been ignored continously...inzi should answer this that y he has been ignored..
 
So during those press conferences with Inzi...why doesn't any one ask him about Sadaf and Tabish ?
 
He’s been very consistent over the past 5+ seasons but has been continuously ignored because he has done something to draw the ire of Shakeel Shaikh,one of the most influential officials in the PCB.

There's too many Irfans to be able to keep up with the ages and what not. However, this one is definitely the slow-left armer.

There are at least five Mohammad Irfans in action in the QEA Trophy.
 
How are we supposed to take this seriously when a '40' year old Aziaz Cheema is causing all sorts with the ball.

Sadaf is much better then the dross we played in last 7 years and yes 2 minute youtube videos will never tell you that.

He has been invited to so many camps and hasn't impressed various different coaches and selectors. Why do you think that is?

He is regularly criticised for (i) lack of fitness and (ii) his lack of pace. Are these false?

But Sohail and Abbas were criticized for their fitness and pace but were still selected.

I clearly remember reading interviews of some Pak domestic batsmen where they said Sadaf is one bowler who they find the most difficult :) Went to dimond few tmes and heard same from players. That is enough for me tbh. If you get peer appreciation that means you atleast have something special

Pakistani awaam and karta dhartas only look at pace and hence the ignorance of Sadaf. A below mediocre bowler like Wahab played (and lost us) so many matches just because he had pace. Talha was hyped as the next big thing. Just look at the list a stats of Wahab.... Is pace everything? There is no such thing as skill (swing, seam, bowling yorkers at will etc), height, bounce, bowling intelligence, line-length?

The fitness issues were highlighted at a time when he was heartbroken and thinking about leaving cricket. I guess everyone in his position would have thought about the same. His fitness is not top draw but he is someone who regularly bowls a lot of overs in a day. I dont think that with fitness issues a bowler can be that successful bowling that number of overs and taking wickets regularly. Just look at last match 1st innings: Sadaf 23 oves, Ali Shafiq 12, Yasir Ali 17.

As a previous poster (who was actually a big fan of Sadaf) said Mickey Arthur thought of him as a bowler only suited to green tracks.

Of course you need skill, pace without skill is useless in the modern era. But I personally feel that to be effective all around the world you need to, at the very least, be able to bowl 135 km/h consistently. Unless:

You're accurate, as the margin for error is very small especially when your not rushing the batsman and have skillswith the ball. I'm talking about the ability to adapt to a variety of conditions, being able to reverse the ball and swing or seam it.

And Sohail failed miserably in the second innings because of his lack of fitness and along with Imran Khan was exposed for his lack of pace in Australia.

Abbas deserves a longer run in the side but it remains to be seen whether he is good enough for this level.

I think he is around the 135 kmph mark.
I personally like few things in his bowling: bowling aql, can move the ball both ways and has an excellent yorker which is the reason why he is successful even in one days.

I cant say specifically about the last Pak cup but one reason he has been overlooked is due to the Islamabad/Pindi lobby of Shakeel Sheikh and the likes. Clearly one the best bowler in Islamabad / Pindi region. The same reason why so many others from here like Mohammad Ramiz (2008 u-19 wc), Akhtar (2004 u19 wc,) Nasarullah Khan (among the fastest and tallest in Islamabad), Nasir Malik etc never got the limelight.

Interesting, do you feel the same reason would apply for never playing a T20 game?
 
Btw he used to be there in Rawalpinidi Rams t20 squad but Sohail Tanvir, and Yasir Arafat were the 2 main quicks along with Rameez and Hammad. Sohail just never played him.

I never said pace was everything. Bear in mind I am the same person who backed Rumman even when others were calling him a trundler. However, a seam bowler should be hitting 135 on a regular basis.

I have no doubt Sadaf would be effective on green pitches but personally I think he would be exposed on less helpful pitches. Even someone as skilled as Anderson struggles on flatter surfaces.

As for fitness, obviously he is bowling a lot of overs, but so can Yasir. That doesn't mean they are athletes though.

I think there is a reason so many different selectors/international coaches haven't selected Sadaf to date, despite him being called up to all the training camps.

Wasnt talking about you :) rather than the people who consider pace as everything.
Tbh the pundits ones whose opinions i look forward too, almost all of them talked about Sadaf at some time. I think now everyone has given up. He was in 2011 Paksquad too along with usman salahuddin but botw were treated harshly by Waqar especially. I have never trusted Waqar picking and backing youngsters.

Understood. :)

I definitely think he deserved a go in tests a few years ago, especially when the like of Imran Khan Jr were selected ahead of him, but sadly I think his time has gone now.

By the way, his action is very similar to Zaheer Khan.

Waqar's problem with youngsters was his impatience. Didn't give them the time to grow. But at least he knew the likes of Ahmed Shehzad didn't deserve to be playing.
 
I don't care if he bowls Lugri or with one hand tied behind his back. Based on his numbers alone the lad deserves a chance.

Obviously we all know why he isn't selected (The lad has no political or media backing - Simple as that). I know people on this forum and elsewhere think of our Ex-players especially the (Inzi, Mushtaq, Saqi) lot as the pious holy brethren but truth be told every single person who's ever held the CS job has had his biases and externalizes influence the selection and there is no two ways of looking at it.

Just 2 days ago Inzi was barred by the PCB to pick up any T10 franchise and somehow magically within 48 hours he was given the green light on the participation and procurement of said business. Without pointing fingers or taking any names I think deals such as these (by the help of influential lobbyist) are the cornerstone of selection compromises in future which at the end of the day hurt Pakistan cricket.

Also no offense to any particular poster here but if you're bringing stupid subjective crap into an argument against a guy who's been topping charts since 2010 then please spare us the details. We've played proper dross like Anwar Ali, Bilawal Bhatti, and Sohail Tanvir continuously in the last 7 years while a guy who had every RIGHT to be in the team was overlooked because reporters, media personnel and journalist don't have the gal to stand in a press conference and ask these tough hard questions directly to the CS and his committee.

I guess staying in the good books of the PCB now is more important than to highlight injustice and daylight robbery by a few influential people.
 
Surely there is a finite amount of players who can be considered for selection!
 
he should be considered going by inzi logic when he selects players in odi on the basis of FC perfromance and vice versa but this guy has hsi chance before eng tour..

Excellent post! Sadaf's non/selection is the greatest display of injustice. 7 years of consistency in 4 days and one days all over Pakistan with 0 reward.
 
Mickey is obsessed with genuine pace like a true SA guy. Even if this guy is selected I doubt he will get the chance soon.

Never had much pace
Not much progress either, looks ordinary
In comparison
Sohail Khan has literally grown as bowler from before. Worked on a genuine out swing to a right-hander. Has different variation of slower balls, much better user of the old bowl, the top wicket taker of current season Quaid Azam trophy and is a central contracted player.

As for fitness, obviously he is bowling a lot of overs, but so can Yasir. That doesn't mean they are athletes though.

I think there is a reason so many different selectors/international coaches haven't selected Sadaf to date, despite him being called up to all the training camps.

Sadaf has been effective on every kind of pitch, look at his stats across the country. And "many different selectors" have actually also selected him. He was selected for the national ODIs side for the tour to the Windies, but was never given a chance, even in a final dead rubber match. There is no need to rationalize when the reason was reported on Cricinfo no less; an influential PCB board member Shakeel Sheikh who is close to Serthi has a personal grudge against Sadaf, and woe be upon the selector or official who mentions his name.

He bowled with less speed in that Pak cup. I dont know why maybe he was coming from a minor injury or due to some other reason. Usually his average speed is around 133 kmph.

133 kph is acceptable .with Azhar he can easily be 138 kph in next 6 months but i reckon inzi will ignore the poor guy once again/..

He is ignored for reasons as pointed above. 127 kmph swing/seam bowlers like Abbas, Mir Hamza have ordinary stats in list A/one days and understandable too while Sadaf has ATG domestic stats in both formats. He is not selected due to non cricketing reasons. I am surprised why hasn't he given up yet.

Sohail Khan has literally grown as bowler from before. Worked on a genuine out swing to a right-hander. Has different variation of slower balls, much better user of the old bowl, the top wicket taker of current season Quaid Azam trophy and is a central contracted player.

Ever heard of something called bounce? It's the one thing McGrath would go on and on about in talking about the secret of his bowling. Curiously, for all the obsession about bowler's "objective" attributes, Sadaf's one obvious physical advantage never seems to merit mention; he is as close that you can get to Irfan height among Pakistani bowlers, without Irfan.

Exactly bounce + has a mean yorker and can reverse the ball. Very difficult for batsmen. One of the reason why he is so successful in one days too.

He should have got a chance. We have played Zimbabwe and Bangladesh during those 7 years, he could have got a game versus 1 of them.

We played Bhatti, Wahab, Anwar, Rahat, Tanvir etc in that time.. It will be a joke if someone says he didnt deserve a chance.
