La La Land is so over rated looking back, you had so many basic people put it on such a mighty pedestal primarily because they couldn't gauge its quality for themselves objectively and went by all the awards it won at the academy, in the end it had some lead names who performed quite well but the entire movie was predictable and simple; nothing out of the ordinary.
On the other hand A Star is Born will have you a lot more charged emotionally, the narrative is much better and the performances are absolute quality. Easily one of the best musicals I have seen in a long time, Cooper really surprised me we know he's one hell of an actor but he took it to another level here and Gaga performed really well to despite the inexperience.
I enjoyed the plot, it was very gritty and touched on topics such as mental health and addiction; subjects which can be a bit taboo when you need to have that discussion about them and raise more awareness. But beyond that man, Cooper and Gaga had so much chemistry; it was really really good the movie, Sam Elliot was phenomenal as well.
Can't recommend this enough!
