La La Land is so over rated looking back, you had so many basic people put it on such a mighty pedestal primarily because they couldn't gauge its quality for themselves objectively and went by all the awards it won at the academy, in the end it had some lead names who performed quite well but the entire movie was predictable and simple; nothing out of the ordinary.

On the other hand A Star is Born will have you a lot more charged emotionally, the narrative is much better and the performances are absolute quality. Easily one of the best musicals I have seen in a long time, Cooper really surprised me we know he's one hell of an actor but he took it to another level here and Gaga performed really well to despite the inexperience.

I enjoyed the plot, it was very gritty and touched on topics such as mental health and addiction; subjects which can be a bit taboo when you need to have that discussion about them and raise more awareness. But beyond that man, Cooper and Gaga had so much chemistry; it was really really good the movie, Sam Elliot was phenomenal as well.

Can't recommend this enough!

My favourite exchange in the movie:

Cooper (Jack): Thanks for the ride

Sam Elliot (Bobby): Sure thing Jack

Cooper (Jack): Hey, you know... when I...when I said I...you know, when I...took your voice, you know. It was you I idolised. It wasn't Dad.

Damn that was deep :)))

No harm in enjoying both without drawing unnecessary parallels.

Well they are both romantic musicals and there is nothing wrong with drawing a comparison at all, it's a forum for discussion and I wont be the first man to make a comparison between movies, no need to get your knickers in a twist mate enjoy your day ;)

Afraid to tag me for obvious reasons

Nevertheless, I haven’t seen it yet

Seriously though you should re-watch La La Land because it was vastly over rated, take out Ryan and Emma it's a pile of dung, mediocrity at its best hyped up by the academy. This was much much better and you can afford a direct comparison due to the genre

Haven’t seen ASIB. Doesn’t appeal.

Found LLL highly overrated. Nice attempt to recreate the classic MGM musicals era but neither principal could really sing or dance, and so they had to turn down in the mix the people who could sing to avoid showing the principals up.

Compare that oft-shown routine on the promontory with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse tearing it up.

It may not on paper but I guarantee you by the end the movie will be appreciated a great deal plus you will love the overall message going by your posting history as well. I agree LLL had great execution but it's pretty basic and overly rated, this movie for me as a musical is more worthy of the critical acclaim and awards.

If they had put principals who can sing and dance in like Hugh Jackman and Lea Michelle it would have been miles better.

:yk

I would reckon this is more us

But hey chow will take it.

Agree with shaz619 A Star is Born was quite well done I thought not bad at all. La La Bland on the other hand was pretty much just that. Didn't understand what all the fuss was about.

:))) So true

It's very deep and gritty isn't it, that doesn't always traditionally resonate well with the casuals but this was terrific on every level

SL_Fan also insane that you posted that clip of Cooper, what an actor; terrific, comparing these two performances in different genre's hangover / a star is born.

I personally liked the third remake of ASIB much better than LaLaLand which was a good movie too for a one time viewing. ASIB for me was much better as in I didn't really expect this from Lady Gaga and Cooper, the songs for me were personally deeper, more impactful and better. All in all ASIB was definitely a pleasant surprise and was much darker than LLL, something which I personally like more.

Btw shaz619 have you seen The Hurricane yet or still procrastinating.
