The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to confirm the overseas signing of Pakistan international Abdullah Shafique.

The top order batter will join the Yorkshire squad next week and be available for selection for the next two Rothesay County Championship matches at Trent Bridge and York.

Shafique will then remain with the Club and be available to play the final four group fixtures of the Vitality Blast campaign.

An accomplished batter, Shafique is known for his compact and elegant style and will bolster the Yorkshire batting lineup, with five test match centuries to his name across his 22 test caps.

The 25-year-old, recently had a successful Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign, scoring 390 runs at an average of 32 including a crucial 41 to help guide his Lahore Qalanders team to glory in the final, last month.

Shafique said he was excited to get started with the White Rose; “I’m immensely pleased to be afforded this opportunity with Yorkshire and I’m eager to join up with the team ahead of a big game against Nottinghamshire.

“Headingley is a venue I’ve always wanted to play at and I’m excited to experience a Roses fixture which I’ve already heard will have an incredible atmosphere!

“There is so much history at this Club, and I hope I can contribute on the pitch at what is a very important period of the season for the team.”

Anthony McGrath, Head Coach of Yorkshire Men added, “Abdullah is another technically gifted, all format player that we are delighted has signed with us.

“He has a tremendous skillset and has scored big runs at the highest level of the game.

“This is a really positive signing for us that will strengthen us greatly. We’re all looking forward to Abdullah joining up with the squad next week.”

This is a fantastic signing for the county and for Abdullah. It will give him the chance to expand his game, play in difficult conditions and become the big man and go to man in the team will build his confidence too.

I hope he smashes it.

A fantastic move for ABD and Yorkshire.

Playing in challenging conditions will elevate his game and all round skills further as well as increase his responsibility of being an overseas pro.

That is good news for AB. This will do a lot of good for his personal growth and improvement.

Good move in general, His test career was taking a downward turn. He needs exposure under his belt.

You can tell a team has an image problem when all they do is sign Asian players lmao.

I just hope Yorkshire is truly committed to addressing the deep-rooted issues of systemic racism that has clearly been there in their organization for a very long time. These kinds of things are cosmetic. Real progress comes from within, by holding the right people accountable and creating lasting structural change.

Also good given next summer we are touring England, so having some folks play county this year and A team also tour this summer is good.

Abdullah Shafique is set to make his much-anticipated debut for Yorkshire in their crucial Rothesay County Championship fixture against Essex at Clifton Park on Saturday. The Pakistani international's inclusion comes at a vital time as the White Rose look to climb out of the relegation zone, currently sitting ninth in Division One and trailing eighth-placed Essex by 14 points in the standings.

The spotlight also shines on Fin Bean, who returns to his boyhood ground brimming with confidence after smashing a career-best 224 against Nottinghamshire. Having once stepped away from county cricket to pursue a career as a mechanic, Bean’s rise from York CC back to the professional ranks is now a full-circle moment. With Bean in form, Shafique debuting, and both sides desperate to prove their potential, Clifton Park is set to host a thrilling contest.

AB is finally making his debut today against Essex. The visa delay kept him away for the first game as he has only signed for a 2-game stint.

On the other side, Khaleel Ahmed from India is playing, and if he gets him out somehow, I am seeing this thread getting lit for obvious reasons... NO?

I hope he is able to improve his technical issues with his stint.

On now, not sure what he can do at this stage, not really his type of situation.

Abdullah Shafique has been dismissed after scoring 26 off 22 balls, falling to Zak Chappell, caught by Harry Came.

Yorkshire find themselves in deep trouble at 59/5 in 10.5 overs, with Derbyshire firmly in control of the contest.

It's good to see him in the runs. he is a t20 player, I am sure of this no matter what his doubters say.

However he needs to learn to make hay while the sun shines and see his side home once he is set and goung. Hopefully this stint can build his confidence.

and he needs to translate some of the adventure to his test batting. he went through a terrible patch, but hes one of the few pak batsmen who showed an appetite to stick it out when he was new to the team. if he could learn to hit out when under pressure he would certainly be better than imam and some of the other guys pak have tried.

I hope so. I wish we had a decent set up that would allow players to develop or flourish but I doubt it. I hope he gets to play LOI under Hesson.

Abdullah has talent but looks awful at times and then you see him and you think this guy will have a 10 year career. The sad thing is that this inconsistency will never leave him
