I am struggling in advancing down the wicket.....
Every time I do it I miss the ball...

Is this a premeditated shot or does the ball has to land in a specific length\line for me to advance down the wicket?

are you more a legside or offside player?

these might help, remember baby steps first

no seriously, point of advancing down the pitch is to get to the pitch of the ball, so u need to read the flight and tragectory of the ball coming and then decide if u can reach it

keep ur eyes on the ball ALWAYS, no mindless slogging :afridi

Watch the ball. If you watch the ball you will not miss the ball.

You have to observe the bowler's line and length before deciding to step out. If he is pitching the ball a lil shorter than the good length and keeping it wicket to wicket then you can think of stepping out. the most important thing it to judge the line and length. Line helps you cover the ball in case u got the length wrong. If u get them both right, then u shud be easily able to make contact and clear the field. If you just do it without observing then u r taking a risk.

I disagree completely, start charging while the bowler is in his runup, meet the ball about halfway down the wicket whether it's a yorker/bouncer/full toss/beamer and swing for the heavens :afridi

stepping out... smasher is close to it...

watch how the bowler has been bowling... then watch the spinners hand, if it is stock delivery, no doosra/wrongun/etc... you have to be expecting it to be pitched a bit short (thus u step out)... however, dont try to go all and all out on it... keep in the back of your mind that the bowler can change at the very last second (if he is smart, or if it is another delivery than what you expected)... also you should have seen the field as to how its been set and if you back urself to clear it or choose to hit in an open area so even a miss hit can be safe... now if the line of the bowler (or you expect it to be on middle and/or leg) then the ideal way to step out is not straight down (although nothing wrong), but slightly back as well (say 5-10 degrees back) so your movement looks like this bracket ( where you first stepping is a little backwards and then back towards the ball as if you would have gone in a straight line... this enables and opens you to a range of shots, if it is what you wanted, you can just lift it back over the bowlers head, or play it to long on long off depending on the line of the ball, if its pitched fuller, you can pull it, flick it to leg, drive it to mid/long off or on, or even cut it to third man... don't just go ultimate warrior on it, you will more likely miss it...

and obviously practice makes you better... if you dont watch the ball or just charge down coz you feel like it, than you will be stumped or miss hit it and be caught out 8/10 times... watch video's of m yousaf inzi or shoaib malik stepping out, heck even afridi

good luck...

Thanks Every1 for all the help,if you guys(or others) have more advise then please do write them.:D

Its not premeditated, all the time. You have to watch for the flight, and then decide as LethalSami said. Never keep your eyes off the ball.

Keep your eyes on the ball and get in pitch of the ball and then smack it. But eyes on the ball is extremely important.

SMACK is not important.
LOL!:D
Should be aware of deceiving flighted ones. Then have to look for 1s or block.

Ah well if I was Zaheer Abbas or Saeed Anwar in terms of timing then it wouldn`t be important but I`m not unfortunately :(

I`m talking about spinners and hitting them for a sixe over long on.

We all know, that you're neither Zaheer Abbas nor Saeed Anwar. But you are more than them, M.Yousuf:moyo.

If you don't mind, may I please ask you a question? Why on earth is M.Yousuf(being in superb form..) not in the scene? Sometimes, true be honest, I feel very angry towards PCB's selection & behaviour.
(Not Offending..)

Exactly! You tell me :D

People say I`m mad and `Pro Mohammad Yousuf`but you tell me :D

No offence or anything but I agree with you completely :D

That would be slogging Bro...if the bowler is bowling full you dont need to charge at all...you can stand ur ground and hit...this is a mistake batsman commonly commit...charge a fuller delivery and end up yorking yourself...the key to hitting the big sixes is to get under the ball...the crazy charge is good if u want to disturb a bowler's line...but you shouldnt look to hit it blindly.

if you charge you have to be confident do it without doubt and you should be fine

When you advance make sure your head is still and top of the ball.... and be ready to adjust to shots available on a given delivery....

i love doing this and smashing a big one back over the bowlers head . My timing is allays perfect (worked on it every day during lat summer ). I am pretty good at adjusting as well as i can sense when the bowler will change it up .

I just watch for flight. As soon as i see any flight, I charge for it, works 99% of the time for me.

A typical rule of thumb is that if the ball is above your eye line in your stance then start coming down the wicket.

The thing to remember is that all because you are coming down the wicket does not mean you need to play a big shot. The point of moving your feet is to try to get to the pitch of the ball to minimise the spin, not to necessarily hit everything for six.

If you can move your feet and play shots that are not just slogs, that is what will make you a good player of spin.

Look at the flight of the ball properly. If the ball is turning , be extra careful. make sure you do not loose the balance because you might be stumped.

Don't advance for the sake of advancing. Once you see flight then advance and just get to the pitch of the ball.

Try something different. Lose the bat!!

Sounds silly!! But try it!!

Get someone to give you throw downs and practise walking towards the pitch of the ball, without the bat. When you feel comfortable, then take the bat again!

Let us know!!

Try going just as the bowler lets go of the delivery, and go straight down the line of the ball. Also, initially just go down and block the ball and as you get better proceed to driving with the full face and eventually you can drive full blooded in the air or along the ground.

and eventually leading to advancing down the track, playing a lofted inside out drive over the cover fielders!!!

I am dribbling!!!!

If it is a spinner bowling don't let the ball bounce get to it on the full toss
