Afghanistan cricket board is doing what they did in the 2019 world cup. Bad selection calls.

Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran are history. Yet they keep selecting these two as if they will do some magic. You have afghani players playing for you for a long time who are fit, why not play them.

Hamid Hassan last played an international match was in 2019 world cup. His last domestic game was in 2020 september. Yet the Afghani board thinks that Hamid Hassan is better than all other players without even playing a game. You have guys like Wafadar, Aftab who consisstently play.

Shapoor Zadran really? He was never a good bowler, and he had been dropped in the past. Yet we see his name again.

Please move on from Shapoor and Hamid.

Dawlat Zadran also plays less cricket, so I am surprised he got selected.

Mohammad Shazad not an ideal batsmen, guy is past his good gays.

The tournament is in UAE so they should be going in with more spinners. While, Mujeeb, Rashid and Qais are good selection, Sharafuudin Ashraf is not a good spinner. They could had bought in Zahir Khan another spinner.

Karim Jannat is an interesting selection,

The squad has been selected by someone who doesnt watch cricket and just knows the name of past cricketers. Terrible scenes here

Based on events this evening, there must be some names in here that Rashid Khan did not want.

Afghanistan cricket not helping itself.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board named their selection on Thursday, 9 September, with the tournament a little over a month away.

Star man Rashid Khan will spearhead the attack, and has been joined by fellow all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Sharafuddin Ashraf in the squad.

Front-line spinners Qais Ahmad and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are also included in the Afghanistan roster for the tournament.

Afghanistan will get their tournament underway in Sharjah on 25 October against the winners of Group B from the tournament’s first round – one of Bangladesh, Oman, Papua New Guinea or Scotland.

Khan and company will also be joined in Group 2 by India, New Zealand and Pakistan, plus the runners-up from the other qualifying pool (either Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands or Sri Lanka).

Afghanistan have won three men’s T20 internationals in their history against the full members of the tournament’s Super 12, out of a total of 14 fixtures. All three of those victories came against the West Indies.

Rashid Khan is the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Decade
Just minutes after the squad announcement, Khan stepped down as Afghanistan captain, citing a lack of involvement in the squad selection.

“The selection committee and ACB (Afghanistan Cricket Board) has not obtained my consent for the team which has been announced by ACB media,” he said.

“As the captain and responsible person for the nation I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team.

“I am taking the decision of stepping down from the role as the captain of Afghanistan T20 side effective immediately.”

All-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to lead the side into battle in the deserts of UAE.

After the appointment Nabi tweeted, “At this critical stage, I admire the decision of ACB for the announcement of leading the National Cricket Team in T20 Format. InshaAllah together we will present a great picture of the Nation in the upcoming T20 World Cup.”

Rashid, who is the world’s top-ranked bowler in Twenty20s, decided to step down from captaincy after the spinner claimed that his “consent” was not obtained before announcing the squad which will start their campaign on October 25.

“As the captain and responsible person for the nation, I reserve the right to be part of the selection of the team. The selection committee and ACB has not obtained my consent for the team which has been announced by ACB media,” Rashid said in a statement on Twitter.

In the squad, wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad was also named in the squad. Afasr Zazai and Farid Ahmad Malik were included as the two reserve players.

Notably, Afghanistan is placed in Group 2 of the tournament alongside India, Pakistan, and New Zealand.

Sporting assignments do not come much tougher than Lance Klusener's role as head coach of Afghanistan as he tries to plan a World Cup campaign with a team who are 12,000km away.

In an ideal world, Klusener and his squad would already be in the United Arab Emirates preparing for their first fixture of the T20 World Cup on October 25.

Instead, the former South Africa all-rounder is at home near Durban while the bulk of the players are attending a low-key training camp in a country still getting to grips with its takeover by the Taliban.

"We were planning at least a month's camp (in the UAE) but we are still waiting for visas, so that's not going to happen. We will try to get there as soon as we can," Klusener told AFP.

Coaching Afghanistan was not easy even before the Taliban took control but it has become even more difficult, with a series against Pakistan postponed and the country's professional T20 tournament cancelled since the change in regime.

The Taliban's influence has already been felt at the headquarters of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, with a new chairman and chief executive installed.

A major concern for Afghanistan's status as a full member of the ICC is the likely demise of women's cricket in the country.

Klusener, 50, has been to Kabul "about half a dozen times" in varying weather conditions since his appointment two years ago.

"I came back from Kabul a couple of days before we shut down. I think it (the Taliban takeover) was always going to happen but the speed of it took everyone off guard.

"That's how countries work. There's nothing we can do as sports people except work with it or work around it.

- Taliban 'supportive' -

"We had a very good training camp for about two-and-a-half weeks. The pitches were pretty good for that time of year. The weather is hugely extreme. I was there in mid-winter once when those pitches were knee-deep in snow."

He has yet to speak to the new men in charge but says his understanding is that the Taliban are "all for promoting and supporting cricket. By all accounts they're very happy for us to continue and have been extremely supportive.

"It's a huge, huge change for the country, for the people. It's going to take a little bit of time for everyone to find their feet."

While that happens Klusener -- who played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa -- is concentrating on the everyday challenges of his job.

"Unfortunately we always play away from home," he said.

"Throw Covid into it and it is a logistical battle. The last time we played was against Zimbabwe (in Abu Dhabi) in March."

"We're lucky that quite a few of our guys play in T20 leagues in various places," said Klusener.

Eight of Afghanistan's 15-man World Cup squad have experience of playing professional T20 cricket in other countries, led by the country's 'Big Three' of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi, who are currently involved in the IPL in the UAE.

All three are spin bowlers.

"I think we've got the best spin attack in the world," said Klusener.

"We will be asking questions of any team we play, especially if there is a little bit of turn available.

"Our biggest challenge is getting enough runs on the board. That's been our focus, working on making sure that if we bat first we get something competitive."

One thing Klusener is not worried about is a change in captaincy.

Rashid Khan resigned because he was not consulted about selection and Nabi was appointed in his place.

Klusener said he did not expect any tension between the two players.

"Nabi has a wonderful head on his shoulders. He's super-calm. All the senior players work extremely well together. He's one of those guys who thrives on responsibility. I think it's going to bring the best out of him."

Credit to Afghanistan for their performance. They pushed Pakistan all the way despite being 76/6 from 12.5 overs. Don't be surprised if they beat one of the Test playing nations in Group 2.

Very impressed by them.

A few more runs and Pakistan were gone.

Nabi in tears during his country's national anthem.

They have been amazing so far.

Beat Scotland by 130 runs and then were competitive against Pakistan.

They can still make it to semi-final.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has approved Sharafuddin Ashraf as a replacement for Asghar Afghan in the Afghanistan squad.

26-year-old Ashraf has played 26 international matches, including nine T20Is and was named as Afghan's replacement.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 approved the replacement of Afghan following concerns over the veteran's mental well-being.

Ashraf was a reserve as per the allowance for teams to travel with extra players in view of COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

A bowling all-rounder, Ashraf has claimed five wickets thus far in his T20I career, claiming figures of 3/27 on debut in the format, back in 2015 against the Netherlands. He last featured for the Afghanistan T20I side in March, against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi.

The left-arm orthodox spinner is available for selection for Afghanistan's next T20 World Cup match against India on November 3, and may find his way into the starting XI should Mujeeb Ur Rahman not recover from his injury.

Afghanistan gave Afghan a fitting farewell in their last match, defeating Namibia by 62 runs in the final match for his country. Afghan made 31 (23) batting at number four, with teammate Hamid Hassan covering Mujeeb's absence, taking 3/9 from four overs.

Afghanistan sit in second in Group 2 in the T20 World Cup Super 12s stage, two points behind Pakistan (six points) in first.

Have we gotten a reason why AA retired during the middle of a world cup, that too when Afg has a good chance to move forward?

I don't get it
