Afghanistan pacer Shapoor Zadran reportedly attacked by gunmen, escapes unhurt

New Delhi, Jan 8: Afghanistan pacer Shapoor Zadran has reportedly been attacked by unknown gunmen in the country's capital Kabul on Saturday (Jan 7).

As per reports the incident took place late on Saturday night in the vicinity of Bagrami area of Kabul, thankfully the cricketer managed to escape unhurt.

Zadran was heading towards his residence along with his brother when they came under attack by unknown gunmen, a report published in Khamma.com said.

As per the report, sources close to the 31-year-old cricketer revealed that that it wasn't the first instance of unidentified gunmen carrying out failed attack on Zadran.

No group or individual has come out to claim responsibility of the incident and the Afghanistan cricket board is also yet to react towards the reported attack on Zadran.

The southpaw pacer hails from Afghanistan's Paktia Province. He has played 39 ODIs for his country and took 41 wickets. In 27 TwentyT20 international games he has grabbed 26 wickets.

Zadran recently criticized cricket officials in ACB which resulted in heavy criticism of the board and as result the chairman was replaced by the President.

Afghanistan's left-arm pacer Shapoor Zadran has reportedly escaped from a near-death scenario after some unknown gunmen opened fire on him in the nation's capital of Kabul. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has not given any official update on the player or the attack as of yet.

Reports from Khamma.com indicate that the incident took place late on Saturday night in the vicinity of Bagrami area of Kabul while Zadran was going to his house along with his brother. The duo were attacked by gunmen who opened fir on them.

But according to the report, Zadran managed to escape. Sources close to Zadran revealed that this is not the first instance of unidentified gunmen carrying out failed attacks on the cricketer.

No group or individual has come out to claim responsibility for the incident and the Afghanistan Cricket Board is also yet to react towards the reported attack on Zadran.

Zadran has recently represented Afghanistan cricket team in the quadrangular series against Netherlands, Scotland and Ireland in July 2016.

Glad he is safe. Woah those are some shocking pictures. He should really consider hiring bodyguards or at least getting a bulletproof car. How are people even able to carry guns inside Kabul? Alright I get it that they don't have enough resources to keep the whole country safe but at least keep the Capital safe. Control what goes in and out.
