Aggressive or stroke making batsman in Tests who never made it in ODIs?

The first one that springs to my mind is VVS Laxman who was a silky very skillful batsman who could carve the offside at will yet he struggled in ODI cricket and never matched his exploits in the Test arena.

Asad Shafiq is another one who has a reputation of being a good strokemaker but he has also struggled a lot in ODI cricket.

Is there any other batsman like this you can think of who failed to translate Tests success into ODI success despite having a reputatiom as good strokeplayers.

Slater comes to mind. VVS isn't appropriate for this case because he was dropped mostly for fitness & fielding (& running). Once he had 3 hundreds in one WSC, just before being dropped permanently.

Among old players that played ODI, it has to be Sir Garry, whose only ODI innings reads 0 (1).

MMHS VVS ended his ODI career with an average of 30 and a SR of 71 much less impressive than his Test figures.

So hard to think such names.Maybe Rahane along with the other two names mentioned by OP.

Bairstow can be one. He might never find a place in an odi middle order which has Root, Morgan, Butler,Moen and Stokes. He doesn't bat slowly in odis either like those three.

Edit: Bairstow won't fail either in such cases. So he cant be mentioned.

Id say KP massively underachieved in ODIs

Darren bravo is another

People will say Younis but his situation is quite different. In almost every test 100 Younis had made, his first 50 tends to painful and edgy, then he kicks into gear. In odis he doesnt have such luxuries

Definitely Sehwag who massively underachieved in ODI's despite being a gun Test batsman - esp in Asia.

Asad Shafiq too since he can bat at a SR of 70+ in Tests but is a complete dud in ODI's.

Maybe Afridi as well since he has a far better Test record with more signficant knocks than he does in ODI's/

Mahela perhaps? Although he had a pretty decent ODI career but looking at his average, you can't help but think that he underachieved.

Mahela played 400+ odis and that would mean he had a successful odi career as he was never in and out of the team. He has played some really clutch knocks for his team.

Afridi never had a successful test career. Just 17 tests and never made it to team afterwards. And you are saying he didnt made it to odis? His legacy will go down as a successful limited overs cricketer but a failure in tests.
