Ahmed Shehzad - A star in the making

By all means, a 70 ball 35 would be considered a massive waste in ODI cricket. Playing all those deliveries to deliver nothing basically.
 
Strange innings today. Just didn't seem to kick on after a good start.

He'd done the hard work then just carried on batting at the same pace which was surprising.

The thing is that Pakistan is batting the wrong youngsters:
Guys like Shehzad and Jamshed: sure they will hit a purple patch every now and then...but they are fundamentally poor technically. They dont have any get out of jail shots to rotate the strike. So all they can do is block and wait for a bowler to make a mistake. If the bowler keeps it tight, they have no answers.

Unless you don't have the batting to last 50 overs.

Sadly, in the series in UAE, Pakistan did not play 50 overs in any of the matches in the ODI series I suppose.

Not defending Shehzad though, mediocre innings
 
Sami salam and sharjeel should be our openers now.

Enough with shehzad and nasir's mediocrity.
 
These batsmen barely average 30 in List A cricket how the hell are they going to set the International arena on fire. Poor players keep getting chances.
 
At least he got a start today and layed the foundation only for our mediocre players to ruin it

We were 49 in 15 overs. We are playing ODI cricket at the moment. We should bat with a decent SR and stop playing selfish innings like Ahmad did as always.
 
Excellent knock, hopefully he'll get a hundred.

Strike rotation has been wonderful which is something not to be associated with him.
 
Maybe the newsboys rotating strike with ease a few days ago helped inspire Ahmed to do so today.

Played a gem so far. His footwork better especially front foot play.

He'd have had around 10 runs more by now if it wasn't for the laziness of Maqsood.
 
Looks a very good innings, he needs to go on from flashy 20-30 starts more consistently so hopefully this will be a turning point. Deserves to get to three figs.

Problem is, they weren't even flashy.

He has limped his way to many a pointless innings at an awful strike rate. But today, he has been awesome.
 
True, I guess I meant he's boundary-reliant. Definitely has had a poor SR which people neglect due to the exciting shots, same thing happened with Hafeez for a majority of his career and it's only recently people have snapped out of the headlights.
 
not comparing them but the knock has been how you would expect the K-man to bat.

don't think he is good enough to replicate it regularly enjoy while it lasts last he batted like this was in NZ 3 years back.

The lad has done well, considering no batting coach and no batting role models, who know how to construct an innings he is slowly finding his feet nicely after a sustained run in the team.

One knock after years doesn't prove anything.

He was good today nonetheless, which everyone accepted.
 
Even with steyn at his best, shehzad gets a 100 mashallah. Special knock, never easy batting in south africa against their pace bowlers when your bought up on the flat decks of pakistan
 
Delightful knock by him. Very fluent. This is the Shehzad we want to see. Hopefully he will keep his feet on the ground and will not loose his way. He should thank the management. They gave him ample and consistent chances. He is lucky to get them.
 
Superb knock, unlucky to get run out but hopefully proves to be match winning !! Would be massive considering the history riding on this match !! :14:
 
He's now got ODI tons in New Zealand & South Africa, haven't only just turned 22.

Good prospect.

I have been his critic in the past and I really hope this is a turning point in his career and he finally comes good. A lot of people on PP do this I support this player vs I hate this player, some of us only hope that these players play well for Pakistan. Again here's hoping this Inngs is not a one off but the moment he becomes a proper batsman !

Its not about hate or love, its about being consistent. We need to bash all players when they do bad and appreciate all when they do well. Problems rise when we start glorifying mediocre performances and undermining good ones!! If we stay somewhere in the middle of these 2 extremes that'd be really good.

Again here's hoping this Inngs is not a one off but the moment he becomes a proper batsman !

Same here, he's gifted just needs to work on few areas of his game. Hope he carries on.
 
Beautiful innings, he stuck in there when Steyn was swinging the ball and went onto score a match winning hundred, what more could you ask from a opener.
 
Third Hundred in three different countries at the age of 22 in just 34 matches.
That's quite good.

I am sure with time his below par average and strike rate will also come good.

Err... everyone thinks that...

A few hundreds followed up by a lot of duds.
 
And losing focus after scoring 100 in a match getting relaxed and getting out cheaply playing a bad ball.
 
This is what happens with Pakistani batsmen after scoring a century they become overconfident and think they can start off in the next match where they left off and thus got out for a duck. Overconfident Bobby Darling. Look at your average and try to improve it. These batsmen are taking their place for granted as they know somehow even though if dropped they'll come back :facepalm:

He is technically deficient batsmen with a lot of problems, no matter how many hundreds he score, he will remain incosistent and hence his average will always be low.
 
The only reason we are on course to posting a huge total is because Shehzad got out early.

He was on course to yet another 50/60 at a strike rate of 60 odd.

Sharjeel today showed how essential it is to start positively in ODI cricket and that is something Shehzad doesn't do.
 
Shehzad was hard done by th umpire but still saw off the new ball and mediocre Sharjeel cashed in on Shezads hard work.
 
^ excellent analysis .. shehzad played 22 balls which were more than enough to take the shine of the new ball :facepalm:
 
No matter how many centuries shehzad scores, he is just an average talent .... He might come off once in a while ala Hafeez today but will have more than his fair share of low scores to keep his avg in the upper 30s.

I'd take upper 30s with a decent SR, problem is he averages less than 30 and an awful SR of 66 or something.
 
Hope Jamshed gets back into form then Sharjeel and Jamshed opening would be a treat to watch.
 
It is high time that Sami Aslam of Babar Azam of U19 teams are given chance as openers.

Otherwise make Hafeez an opener, bring Umar Akmal at 3 and Haris at 6, technically Haris Sohail replacing Ahmad Shehzad.
