It's been an year already, the guy can hit Ajmal for effortless six against the spin, but can't go past 50. At the end of the day, you've got to be prolific in this game, especially as a batsman. Bowlers can still be in the game if they don't take that many wickets by just being economical. Batsmen have no other way to succeed.

Difference is Sharma has achieved his statistical potential. Averages 34 in List A cricket and 30 in internationals - anybody who was expecting more in the latter is daft.

He does average 60 in First Class cricket on the other hand....and is yet to play a test match.
 
Its been 2 games since he's replaced Sehwag and axes are already out. I bet 1 more failure and there'll be clamour for Sehwag's return.

The guy has shown promise, some players take time to settle in. He should play all the ODI's before CT and then be judged.

has technical short coming like all your your batmen barring I guess Pujara has potential but does not seem like one that can replace the elite Fab 5.
 
Rahane needs to be persisted with. He has a decent back foot technique - a rarity with Indian youngsters nowadays.

Do not drop him unless he is injured. Terrific fielder to boot - definitely an asset in the long run

Can't play anything pitched up and moving. Throw him out for good, he is and will be useless. Those 20s and 30s will do India no good.
 
In a worst case scenario, he will become another Rohit Sharma.
 
I saw the dismissal last game and footwork was pathetic, not seen the dismissal but seems like more of the same from the scorecard.

They are all from the same maker, look classy for a little while but just can't make it big. At least Raina has turned into a reliable lower order ODI player. He's got his issues but can do one thing right. The other 3 i mentioned can't do ANYTHING.
 
Rahane will play. Tiwari and GG both injured. No other choice but to pick Raina for back up.
 
Haha Raina called back to the test side...perhaps the 1st time a middle order TTF has replaced an injured opener. Rahane most likely to carry on his drinks duty..I will boycott the test if Raina is in the 11

Sadly seeing GG being picked initially, looked like he was going to carry drinks if GG didn't have symptoms of jaundice.

but in this case, I see Rahane to open. Raina won't open. So, they have no choice but to play Rahane.

Rahane isn't an opener in Test either. I can bet that Dhoni will play Raina and open the innings with Pujara and Vijay.

Pujara and Vijay to open, Kohli at 3, Sachin 4, Raina 5, Dhoni 6..Was thinking of watching the match at Kotla form ball one..now will wait till the toss is done, If Raina is there, I am boycotting. What has he done since being kicked out of the Test side to be picked? Keeps coming back series after series.

He played one-down and opener for Mumbai. Top order batsman. Raina always played middle order. Let's just say that Raina is there to boost :msd morale. :yk

I think it is just a myth that Pak has lots of budding fast bowlers. All new Pak pacers will struggle in the international cricket.

I think MSD said in press conf. we will try something different before all this. That means he may be looking forward to play Rahane.

Please yaar! You should go to see Match, regardless. Don't be this angry, see Vijay came back and cemented his place as an opener, so too early to lose hope for Raina. I know Vijay deserved call back, as he had some decent knocks in Ranji and Raina didn't do anything, but we have always considered ODI form for test as well.

Look at this way, if GG was called back for Dhawan, Rahane was never going to get game anyway. Would you have boycotted then as well?

Raina will probably do ok in India. But it was a short sighted selection as Raina would be a joker when we tour.
 
So if Rahane doesn't make his debut in Delhi now, something is wrong.
 
Guy's got potential. Lock him for the remaining 10 overseas tests as well. Eventually will start hitting hundreds as well.
 
Surely looks better than Rohit on this tour. Obviously Rohit hasn't been in the middle long enough to judge :)
 
Has been the surprise package this tour. I knew Pujara and Kohli would eventually come through for us. I didn't really expect such guts, determination and temperament from Ajinkya. Murali Vijay too but he doesn't really have much of a future.
 
Anyway our Rihanna has survived everything to remain not out on 51. Well done Rihanna!
 
If Dhawan experiment continues to fail, India should try Rahane as an opener.

Scores runs in South Africa and now in NZ on his first tour there. Indians have got themselves another quality bat after Kohli and Pujara. So much better than useless Talunted Rohit.
 
Back when the Indians were getting whitewashed in Australia his name was thrown around a lot, now I know what the hype was all about - he is all class.

The only caveat being that he has had it easy with the usual Kiwi pitches, wait for him to perform in tougher conditions (seam/swing/spin) before taking a call.

He's brilliant and like some others, I was always put him in the league of Kohli and Pujara.

I laugh when people compare him up Shehzad :91: who is technically faulty and can't rotate strike for life.

Rahane is superior in all facets of batting.

Easy on the Kiwi pitches?Care to elaborate and why did kiwi batsmen fold for 105 and 192 against our fast-bowlers?

He is not yet in the league of Kohli and Pujara, though he may join that league in future. He does have some weakness against the short ball (and some others too, which has exposed him in the shorter format), but he is too gritty and determined to be subdued by his weakness.
 
Yes not yet but ability wise absolutely.

He is going to carry India's batting along with Kohli and Pujara for the next decade.

What league is Kohli in?
Averages in the law- mid 40's and you are talking about him with someone who average over 60.

I am clearly talking about Test cricket.
And you are also probably talking about test cricket because Rahane is not playing T20's and is useless in ODI's.
Use logic sometime before posting.

I said Rahane, Kohli and Pujara will carry India's batting for the next decade.

Kohli isn't the finished article in Tests yet, but he has been averaging over 50 for the last 2 years and its only a matter of time before he averages 50 overall.

Kohli is comfortably the best young batsman in the world who is an ODI great already and will end up an ATG batsman.

Your denial of his ability is extremely annoying.

Because I know they are of no use against ok-good bowlers when the ball is swinging...

When your main players are Kohli and Dhoni it's easy to understand why you have lost 10 matches without winning one on the last two tours and that against a very poor NZ test team.

Cricket is not about averages.
Number of crucial Test innings : Zero.

Very strange that you were not talking about tests:
- Pujara doesn't play t20's
- Pujara doesn't play ODI's
- Rahane doesn't play t20's
- Rahane has been extremely poor in ODI's. Actually you will hardly find one worst batsman in the world, Bangladesh included.

So if you were talking about all three formats your post was even worst!

Actually we won the ODI series in SA not like you guys.
We had one Hafeez, you had 11 of them.
Shehzad, Maqsood and Misbah were good in ODI'S, better than indians.

But I am not comparing Pakistanis ajd Indians so don't know why you guys are bringing pakistan in?

If I was an indian I would he thinking about Kohli's test game... Can he scores runs against Boult or Southee? Or he has to wait for loose bowlers like Neesham and Anderson (odi bowlers that he love), or Sodhi in the last match?
He failed against England at home, ok no swann but still will he be of any use in England and Australia as these teams don't hace many loose bowlers in their XI???

Delusional posting at it's finest. :))) We beat the Saffers 2-1 with players like Franklin and Nathan McCullum. But when Pakistanis fail overseas, it's okay for fanboys like you to fall back on the tough pitch excuse. On the other hand, when players you dislike succeed overseas, it's due to easy pitches and bowling. Jeez the insecurity levels in you lot is insane.. :amin
 
I had a feeling that his dream of being part of India's men team was coming to an end. This knock might change that lol

You were hyping up NZ as a top 4 team and you're about to get thumped by an Indian team that has lost 10 out of 11 it's away tests Pakistani batsman are crap and everyone knows we are one of the weakest batting line ups in the world but every one hypes up the Indian batsman as one of the best batting line ups in the world so they should be judged more harshly than Paks batsmen

Pakistani batsmen aren't crap. Who said that? Maqsood is decent, Shehzad is finding a good groove, Shafiq and Azhar have played some really good knocks. Indians on the other hand have legends like Talunted Rohit who can't face bowling from toddlers without getting out stylishly. From that POV, Rahane's knock is superb as it came when Indians were struggling. So the easy pitch excuse fails.

Compared to their Indian counterparts none of our batsman match up to them Barring YK and Misbah in Tests Rahane played a very good knock has set up the game for India anyone who says it was a flat track or easy runs is just deluded if Shehzad scored that he would be hyped as new Tendulkar by many Pak fans
