Hi is playing for Karachi blues in the final against Sialkot and is currentl on 145* with a decent SR.

His highest score in FC is 224 and he averags around 37 with the bat.

I was also looking at his bowling stats and an average of 25 is not bad at all. And he has played 46 FC matches.

I mean how many players do we have averaging over 35 with bat and 25 with ball after playing so many matches?

The guys who are watching him play, how is his batting technique?

He is 29 years old btw.

Maybe he is under the selectors radar? (PS! before the hype-police comes, this is not any hype)

46 matches and 59 wickets , which means he is seldom used. Not an all rounder, do not even qualify for a batting all rounder.

Kamran Husaain is the all rounder we wasted in recent years.
 
He was actually pretty good against the bowlers he was playing against. His technique wasn't bad but i think a little more bounce and he wouldn't be so good (Isn't that the case with almost all our domestic bullies though). He does have a good temperament because at the begging of his innings, his SR was like around 30s till he got to his 50. Then he started scoring more freely and has built up a very good innings now.

Bilawal Bhatti, who had a little more pace than anyone else did bother him a bit with a little bit of bounce he some times got from this low surface.
 
The other people mentioned have horror stats, they can neither bat nor bowl. An all rounder should average greater than 35 in our domestic (Sarf averages 42) and about 25 with the bowl
 
I think his main suit is batting , and do not think that kind of average will get him International call.

(his batting ave is higher than his bowling ave) which is a rarity nowadays in pak , he could allow to play 3 spinners and support Junaid with the new ball (makng a bowling attack with alot of variety OB,SLA,LB,LF & RMF) and strengthen our weak lower middle order!

Havent seen him bat much, however he was a monster in the last season, really domainted the domestic circuit . In fact he was the star performer when Karachi won this years Quaid-E-Azam trophy. This is what his captain, Manzoor said about him.


"I simply call him a one-man army and I am proud of him," Manzoor said. "He played his role and his presence in the middle was a relief for me. He was the backbone of our batting and performed well when it matters and I wish him very best of luck for his future."

Just had a break through season last year. Don't have high expectations from him. Cricinfo is wrong. He bowls leg spin. He is not a medium fast bowler at all. Wishing him good luck :).
 
I would select him as a batsmen. Won't call him an allrounder though... BOwling stats arnt that great.

If he can bat well in practice match, then he can be given a chance....

Leg-spin is a handy option to have on UAE pitches

Junaid , Rahat, Nasir , Amin , Azhar , Shafiq , Adnan , Hafeez , Adil, U Akmal , Wahab , Sohail , Sohaib, Shezad .. All these players started their careers in their early 20s or before 30.

My point is age shouldn't be a barrier. Pick the best players, not the youngest.
 
Considering all rounders tend to be included early and take their time to fully develop both attributes, I'd rather a young allrounder be elevated to international stage before an older one.

We've tried that as well with Shehzad, Jamshed, Farhat, Wahab, Tanvir, Hammad, U Amin e.t.c.

They were brought in early, raw and expected to provide long term stability but the effect has been the opposite in some cases. On the other hand, Misbah and Ajmal have provided us with stability for years.

I'm not against picking young players, far from it. I also accept that some of the above young players weren't treated fairly at times in terms of selection. But if the best domestic all rounder is over 30, don't use his age as an excuse for not picking him.

The problem is the opposite you are suggesting - we fail to identify talent early like the rest of the world who have learn't from us (just check the other sides) select, back and nurture. Like we used to.

I have no problem with selecting the best young talent early. But at this moment in time Pakistan is not blessed with talent, especially in the batting department. The best sides in the world (e.g England) select talented youngsters only after great domestic performances over 1-2 seasons (Root). They also don't mind picking older players who have been performing well domestically (Trott, Compton).

Most FC hundreds this season by him with 4 Fc tons including a double hundred. He sits on number 3 position with 716 runs with Asif Zakir 735 and Umar Amin 748 ahead of him.

Today was a great day of his life where he scored a double hundred and also it must have been a huge surprise for him getting picked for PSL. Where in last 2 years atleast I haven't seen him play for Karachi in domestic T20 cricket.

He is the biggest surprise pick in PSL but I must say he richly deserves it although he is performing in FC cricket.

When he got selected every one was bashing this selection, i told guys he has a good season now and today he hit double ton. So selection justified.

Yes I believe that top players of FC cricket only few should be selected for financial incentive.

But it indeed is a very surprising selection as Akbar ur Rehman has not played any T20 match in last two years. He last played a T20 match in 2013/2014. And did not play any T20 match in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 season.

So he is just picked on the basis of current form.

Very lucky to be selected in PSL tbh. Having a dream season. I don't really rate him much. He's a handy leggie as well. I've met him quite a few times.
 
Just noticed he had been picked by Quetta. He plays for Pakistan Cricket Club. Quetta Gladiators, Omar Associates and PCC are owned by Nadeem Omar. So the reason of his inclusion is clear to me.

Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Anwar Ali, Ramiz Raja Jnr. all play for PCC and Saad Nasim was the captain of Omar Associates in Grade II cricket.
 
He's now the highest run getter this fc season. OK, there's no place for him in our test side but think the selectors should select him for the tour of NZ for the ODI series.

A great season so far for him in domestic cricket , he is old :misbah but that should not stop him from getting selected. These are as far as stats go , so any of you has seen him bat? I have seen him bat on one occassion , didn't strike me as particularly good but he probably has improved. Any input from [MENTION=138980]TalentSpotterPk[/MENTION] ?
 
Scored 2 tons and 2 fifties in ongoing OD Cup with average of 148 and SR of 99.5. He has also hit highest number of sixes in the tournament. He's going to play every match in PSL as he's listed as an emerging player and every team is required to play atleast 1 emerging player every game.
 
Well he has been performing consistently for last five years. He should be given a chance at the top.Age is no barrier.Look at what Voges is doing for Australia. It is not that the youngsters are taking world by storm.MAY BE he really turns out to be what Pakistan requires at the moment.

Even if he wins it for NBP today even than I have no hope from him in international cricket. He cannot play pacers.

We need players who are superior than Sohaib, Shehzad & Rizwan. We don't need inferior replacements. Atleast Rizwan is a brilliant fielder.

How will he handle fast medium or fast bowlers in international cricket ? And how can he play Seam or swing by not picking the pacers length early and by not reaching to the pitch of deliveries ? Would be a walking wicket against half decent pacers.

Came down the wicket and smashed Mir Hamza with ease and it wasn't a wild slog

Yes, he has looked awkward in this match, and even our best bat Haris looks awkward in some. The bounce in this pitch is uneven. A few half volleys have ended up waist high, but I guess he is not worth following given age is not on his side either. I was hoping he could get a rescue role in ODIs for a few matches, but it seems he is not the one we are looking for as no matter how the pitch behaves, a quality batsman finds his way through.

I guess case closed then!

P.S. I don't advocate selecting players on stats alone. I am of the opinion that players should be shortlisted on the basis of stats and these should then be observed by selectors, and the ones who stand the test of pitch and opposition should be selected. I believe (as common sense) that those who do not have decent stats in domestics (e.g Umar Amin in List-A) are unlikely to succeed in internationals, as the domestic matches are of a lower quality. By selecting sub-40 averaging batsmen (Iftikhar Ahmed) and super-25 (Rahat Ali) averaging bowlers, we are only fooling ourselves if we believe that they will somehow magically over-achieve in internationals.

If you ask me fawad , akbar ur Rehman or Iftikhar whom u want ? Without even blinking my eye I would say fawad.

Now I am only interested in watching Abid Ali of Isb and Abdul Rehman Muzammil and to some degree Sarmad Bhatti & Shoaib Ahmed Minhas.

Agree with you players should be selected for the formats in which they have excelled in domestic cricket.

Asad Shafique had a decent foot work where he reaches the pitch of the delivery while Akbar plays half cock (neither forward nor back)

Asad does pick the length of delivery a tad slow yes but Akbar picks it even more slower than Asad Shafique.

This is what my observation is.
 
Fantastic knock by him today, excellent.

Btw, this guy can bat good, he is a medium pacer but also a leg spinner, and also he is a wicket keeper :))

Akbar is an All-rounder but Batting all-rounder he has more command on his batting even at the age 32 he is better than our current lot

Today, when babar bowled with the new ball and found out that there was spin in the wicket, akbar ur rehman started bowling spin aswell.

As he is a new bowler, i taught he might be spinner but with a weird run up, check his profile, he is infact a medium fast pacer.

Few days ago we were disusing a spinner bowling with both right and left and now we have bowlers who could bowl both pace and spin at the right length.

Ok so we found our Garry Sobers :13: Sobers could bowl Left-arm fast-medium, Slow left-arm orthodox, Slow left-arm chinaman.

I think it will become a serious thing soon. Most fast bowlers can bowl a bit of spin. Most spinners have that quick 80+mph delivery in their Arsenal as well
 
Rana Naveed is another example he bowl both medium pace and spin depending on situation.
 
Sorry i didn't watch the match but i've always wondered something, can a medium pacer bowl some spin delieveries now and there during his overs in a match or does he have have to bowl all his quota the same way as he started (all spin or all pace) ?
 
He bowled medium pace initially but he's a spinner in domestic from a long time now. I'm not surprised at all. Cricinfo needs to update.
 
Very lucky to be playing PSL when he wasn't being picked for domestic T20 teams in last 2 years.

A bowler decided him self, he can bowl one over fast, then spin then medium.

Even in one over he can change his Rubup pace ect.

In OD domestic, he was bowling with medium pace. But his batting is strongest suit, 171 avg in National OD cup.

Akbar doesnt look too shabby

Might have scored just 11 today but atleast he doesnt look like a hack. Doesnt seem too perturbed by Tait's pace either.

I suggest his case should be open for ODIs, though he isnt exactly a T20 player
 
He looked classy to me until he came out aimlessly. Looks a proper batsman for the longer formats. It is pity that he is already 32.

Looked a well organized batsman which is a rarity in Pakistani domestic and international bats

Here people have said he cant play anything above 85mph but he looked at home against tait

Exactly T20 isnt his best format. The way he was playing he would make a decent Middle order bat who relies on method rather than hoicks like Maqsood. And he can give you decent 5 overs per match

Yep, looked well organised and composed. I have not seen a better looking Pakistani domestic batsman than him in this PSL.

Nasir Hossain, usually an off-spinner, also bowled pace and clocked 138 kph in international cricket.

His feet movement looked fine and he has a flow and rythm to his batting unlike Fawad, Maqsood or Rizwan. I would want him to play for A-teams and even an option for ODI team in future.

His List-A stats are way better than many we have tried.

He moves his feet way more then maqsood,rizwan and shehzad.

Haris Sohail is not fit for a sport. Fawad Alam is clueless against pace himself, Umar Amin is history.

May be you are right as you have observed him a lot but he looked fine. There is one thing about Karachi players that they are very good against spin but not that well against pace.
