NEW DELHI: Rajasthan BJP chief Madan Lal Saini on Thursday triggered a controversy with his comments that Mughal emperor Akbar had behaved in an indecent manner with Bikaner queen Kiran Devi. The Congress accused him of creating tension in the society by distorting history.
Mr Saini claimed that Akbar used to misbehave with women in Meena Bazaar, where only women were allowed to work. He claimed the emperor once tried to molest the queen.

"The entire world knows that Akbar organised ''Meena Bazaars'' where only women worked. Men were not allowed inside. But Akbar used to visit them in disguise to commit "dushkarm" (wrongdoing)," he claimed.

He further said the queen had put a sword to the emperor's neck when he misbehaved with her and he had to beg for his life.

Mr Saini was speaking on the birth anniversary of iconic Rajput king Maharana Pratap.

The comments were condemned by the Congress.

"The entire country is proud of Maharana Pratap's valour and people imitate his values but the BJP leader has presented a distorted history which creates enmity in society and leads to its disintegration," Congress vice president Archana Sharma told news agency PTI.

The BJP has been targetting the legacy of the Mughals over the years. The party's governments at the centre and in states have renamed many places whose names, the party said, were from the Mughal era.

Last year, BJP parliamentarian Maheish Girri had dubbed Mughal ruler Aurangzeb a "terrorist".

Forget about Illiterate Indians living in india. I have meet educated Indians working in western world and they fully support these Sanghis. They were even justifying Sadhvi election saying she was fighting for Hinduism.

This Hindutava and fake nationalism tonic is keeping the BJP and sanghis in power. If war breaks out tomorrow these Sanghis will no where to be seen.

He was self serving like many of the other Mughal rulers. He took easy on Hindus to expand his empire without a fight. All he had to do was just marry the Hindu Princess and avoid a war. Pretty clever.

One thing that is common is, all Mughal Emperors had a time of their life in India when it comes to women. Everyone had hundreds of women in their harem and I read that these emperors used to host these women in buildings which they visited every nights. They had hundreds of women to choose from.

You don't say...must be a unique trait among Kings/Emperors of yore, only afflicting the Mughals of India...

By the way, majority of Mughal Kings were thoroughly Indians, born to Indian/hindu mother or fathered by men born to Hindu/Indian mothers...

So to pretend that Mughals were some foreign aliens is highly ethnocentric and bigoted view of looking at history...
