Bear Grylls recently joined Akshay Kumar and his Bell Bottom co-star Huma Qureshi for an Instagram Live session. During the chat, Akshay and Bear spoke about shooting for the Into the Wild special episode at Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve, surviving in the wild and if they plan to work together again.

Huma asked them about the “elephant poo tea” that they were seen drinking in the show’s promo. Akshay revealed that it really wasn’t a big deal for him as he drinks cow urine every day for Ayurvedic reasons.


Bear Grylls acknowledged that even though he did not know Akshay Kumar personally, he instantly knew that he was a “fun guy with no ego”. He also mentioned Akshay’s “humility” and how it came across in his demeanour. Bear was quite impressed with Akshay’s fitness and said, “Out of all the guests we have had over the years, he is definitely Tier-1.”

When asked if he was worried about surviving in the wild, Akshay said that with Bear, he knew he was in good hands. “I wasn’t worried. I was too excited to be worried,” the Bell Bottom actor said. Bear mentioned that he enjoyed this journey with Khiladi Kumar as he likes to try new adventurous things. The Into The Wild host added that the best part about doing such shows is that people can see their favourite celebrities in a “normal human way, without the gloss.” Huma Qureshi then asked the two if they plan on working again to which Bear said, “Will be great to do something else with him. Maybe another show.”


The special episode of Into the Wild with Bear Grylls featuring Akshay Kumar will premiere on September 11 at 8 pm on the streaming service Discovery Plus. It will be available on the Discovery channel on September 14 at 8 pm.

Ayurveda has been revived India. It is Indian traditional medicine in which Cow urine is part of it. Many Ayurvedic medicines have Turmeric, Aswagandha, Cow urine as part of it as they have anti bacterial and healing powers.
 
I mean it’s his religious beliefs. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it’s not being forced on others.
 
Drinking cow urine is not part of any religious belief including hinduism.

Drinking cow urine is more of a pseudo spiritual philosophical thing. It gets confused with religion all the time but it’s has no grounding in Hinduism as far as my knowledge is concerned.

It is part of hindu culture. culture changes over time and these english medium educated pseudo hindus are culturally western, but they are not true representative. I used to have go mutra occasionally in my childhood, not straight from the tap, but diluted in a drink. And as most posters can attest to, i have turned out to be an excellent specimen of a well rounded human being with my heart at the right place.

From the Indians i know, what i have heard is basically the people who does this are a fringe. Like uneducated hicks, or politicians who pretend to drink it to win votes. However that's why i was surprised to read about a famous actor drinking it. So i was not sure if it was a joke or not.

If it truly has healing powers, as in scientifically proven, heck i would drink it to if i had a disease that it could cure or prevent.

The ones you have heard from are embarrassed so they try to give a bad name to those who practice go mutra therapy. never trust the words of the westernized hindus.. even the hindus on PP, they are usually wrong about india. i laugh when i see their expert comments on india and hindus.

I think it’s a bit different in India, majority of the actors seem to be very pro-modi who is a right wing leader.

Kumar is one of the most vocal BJP supporters so this is not that big of a surprise.

He looks extremely fit for a 50 plus. His good health may not be because of the go mutra, but there is no signs of any harmful effects.

In terms of faith, i think of liberals as people who are not that religious. I mean they could still follow any religion just they have modern day interpretations. I would not think they would drink cow urine. I would not expect them to be the die-hards.

They usually respect all religions, usually look to religion as something that can unite people instead of divide.

I read a similar thread a couple of days ago where someone was mocking the tradition of cow urine consumption in India, and [MENTION=1080]miandadrules[/MENTION] jumped in with a defensive post about camel urine drinking in Arabia.

I mean what is the big deal with foreign culinary habits? You would think it was the 1980s where Indiana Jones was being fed sheeps eyeballs in the Temple of Doom. Hindus have been around for millennia, if drinking cow urine was so harmful you would think it would have had repercussions by now.

Surely even Huma would had been shocked to know.. I don't fault Akshay, Ajay to be a BJP supporter Amitabh,Sanjay,Sunil Dutt, Javed Akhtar were big time Congress supporters in their time even after the Anti-Sikh riots but if he did this why didn't he disclose this before?

The difference is if i go to amazon US or google shopping right now, and put in cow urine, i am seeing multiple brands selling it. I did not see anything of camel urine.

And if you go to Amazon India, there are dozens of items you can purchase for cow urine. So i dont those are equally popular.

On the contrary, he has much to lose by making it public. To exploit he only has to stay nationalist in his movies and support the army. Saying that you drunk go mutra makes even some bjp supporters squirm.

This is just like the communist ideology purge. no freedom for someone to practice their own beliefs without others jumping to judge, mock and insult.

I think the reason for that is probably because WHO has taken a stand against camel urine, I think if they do against Cow urine amazon will be forced to not sell it as well.

Maybe he does, my only question is how come he never disclosed it before, he is not been acting for only last 5-8 years..

Thank goodness. And i am very grateful that this camel urine drinking tradition that Arabs have, did not come to subcontinent Muslims. Otherwise some of the more religious subcontinent Muslims might be drinking it today.

You are fine to ask a question, but not fair when you imply the answer as opportunistic exploitation. It is possible that he thought maybe now he won't be shamed for this. I mean if he had said that he does something common among unmarried males, people would be more supportive, but if he says he drinks go mutra as medicine, then his motives must be put to question.

True but the question still remains if he started it recently what prompted him and if he has been drinking during his entire acting career why didn't he disclose.

Ofcourse its his personal choice to disclose the reasons but since he has disclosed the practice that is not common among Punjabi Hindus of Delhi it would be interesting to know the reasons.

No because its common among Punjabi Hindus..there is a reason I mentioned his ethnicity as I'm from the same ethnicity and have a higher sample to judge whether the large part of them practice it or not.

Alcohol is common, is it good ,ofcourse not but Delhi Punjabis do consume a lot of it.
 
Alcohol is proven to be harmful for not just the individual, but the society as well, but if someone admits that he drinks alocohol, it would not be any news.

but someone admitting to drinking go mutra (which may or may not be harmful to the individual - still need evidence) but certainly not harmful for society, it makes them question everything about the person, his character and political beliefs and opportunism.

just shows how fake these people are.

I'm not he does that all the time himself .. he is loud and clear about how "Punjabi" he is with his choice.. there is no Punjabi code of conduct..and its his choice if wants to break any perceived moral code of conduct.

Second I'm a Punjabi Hindu(majority) myself and most of my family elders have become pro BJP supporters but no one have ever said drinking cow urine is a practice .

Interesting question. Alcohol is manufactured from rotting fruits, one might wonder why it is considered socially acceptable above cow urine. I feel that is where tv shows like Bear Gryllis (which I have never watched) could provide alternative insight ( if you watched them).

It is part of Ayurveda. One of the oldest traditional medicine in the world. It is as old as Hinduism itself.

Though drinking cow urine itself is not mentioned in Vedas or Upanishads, it is considered to relieve humans from various ailments including indigestion, constipation etc. People like Ramdev Baba has come up with new suggestions that it can cure cancer, high BP, Diabetes etc. Very tempting for people to try for people who already have those diseases or predisposed to those diseases.

Indian medicine is part of Hindu culture. Some follow it and some don’t. Most do not follow it. There is no proof that adding a few drops of cow urine to your coffee or tea will cure diseases. It’s more of a faith than anything else.

Here's what I feel. Akshay Kumar knows which direction the wind is blowing and just goes with that for good box office returns. He has been criticized for not backing Justice for SSR and with a few big films coming up he knows what would get him into the good books of internet warriors.

He is the same Akshay who once said he receives more love from Pakistan than any other country and even said that Pakistan is not responsible for terrorism in India. He wasn't a sanghi to begin with, he has transformed into one.

So disgusting and ignorant. I honestly didn’t think Akshay Kumar would actually believe in all this **. However I don’t think he’s trying to garner votes for Bjp. Atleast Kerala where I’m from and the state is over 90% literate I know my Hindu friends don’t believe in these foolish Ideologies. We all probably love eating meat but definitely don’t drink their ****... lol. This is so laughable and vile at the same time.
 
Urine is an ultra-filtrate of blood with minimum electrolyte and byproducts, not harmful to have it, it can be filtered further to extract water.

I do not know much about the Hindu religion but it probably made up added belief into religion and almost as ridiculous to a menstruated female become non-touchable and isn't allowed inside the house.

As someone mentioned, he knows where the direction of the wind is blowing. Post-BJP elected government, almost everything institution, and industry has been politicized, it will be financial and career-ending suicide to remotely criticize BJP and praise of anything that remotely reflects BJP ideology may earn your few extra bucks.

Surprisingly quite common in the west with Hindus eating beef. I've yet to come across one drinking cow urine although unlikely anyone would really admit to it.
