Al-Barakah T20 Final - Pakistan v Sri Lanka | Toronto | 13/10/08

oh well. I thought we were a few runs short and that over from Akhtar has swung this match.

Oh crap...even if Gul manages to restrict the Sri Lankans in this over. Who is going to bowl the last over?!

Oh well, we fought hard, we were a few runs short and Akhtar went for to many runs today.

It was good to see some great team spirit from the team led by the Skipper. For me the Skipper looked and proved to be every bit the leader he is. Tactics can be developed but leadership cannot be.

oh well... pitty we couldnt win...but all in all i though it was good comeback series for shoiab akhtar...cant wait for the next series to see him thundering in for pakistan...

p.s.
dont tell me when the next game is on...i'll feel the earthquakes in london when he is coming in to bowl!

Akhtar should be given the Man of the Match award. He single-handedly turned the game in Sri Lanka's favour

We didnt deserve to win .. the best team won.. 20 overs and we have given away no balls and wides for fun.. Afridi done his best to get our every ball but these Lankans just didnt want to get him out.. YK well its simple he will play a good knock on a big day or he will get run out there is no other way for him...

Sri Lanka wanted it much more and they played much better then us.. congrats you deserve it !!

Akhtar just lost i ttoday man every bowler/batsman has his off days good match by the lankans next time bether :D (trying to be postive)

Yeah one match and he sucks all of a sudden. Stupidity.
Most people on this board think he sucks immensely - so no - not one match.

He is not suited for this cricket - period

Shoaib Akhtar is still a fantastic bowler. He's a little too attacking for the 20/20 format which requires more defense.

Crongrats SL

The crucial over was Akhatrs!!!!!!
He messed it all up!!!!!!!

oh well never mind it is only 20/20 after all but i think malik has found confidnece in his captaincy and bowling once again which is a huge positive

Akhtar hasn't played enough cricket recently, nor has Pak. So all in all - excellent effort from the team. I'm proud of the way they fought.

Shoaib, with a Cow like stature (currently and usually most of the time lately) and an elephant size ego (definitely) has cost us the match by thinking that 'Bowling Phaasht' is gonna scare the batsmen out of their pants...nothing new, we all have seen this in WC 03 and many times before and after too!

Pak will do well to drop this liability for good cause if he is not available for Tests (the most important form of the game)...then we can always find a few bowlers to bowl in 20-20 games and give out less than him!

Shoaib go back to CopyWood please and take that blind fan with ya too

3 overs 40 runs, how the hell you could defend 132. boy o boy. i am so $%^$%^%$^$^ mad.

It's time Akhtar is retired before the next tournament. No way we can afford to have him no longer

For the first time i have seen positive spirit under Malik and you want him out? Aren't we already hating too much?

Gul on the other hand... wow. He's been a revelation for a while but still wow. He has really become a gun bowler for Pak. Serious pace and the best yorker in international cricket!

I agree but i also believe he is nowhere near fit enough for the TEST or ODI formats too. So, i really can't see him lasting much longer as he has rarely played a full series at the best of times.

Can I have some of what you have been smoking...Is Shoaib Akhtar the skipper?

We lost the match but by far the biggest postive was Gul's bowling. How he didn't get more wickets, I'll never know.

Well played to SL. The best result for both sides.

All those distraught fans should remember that we're playig hit-and-giggle 20-20. This game is perfectly suited to mediocrity, part time spinners and dibbly-dobbler medium pacers like sohail tanvir and co.

Yea shoaib was expensive, but that's what fast bowlers are - either expensive or wicket-takers. Remember 3 of those boundaries were edges. One thing has been lost in all of this - a score of 132 was not a great effort either.

^^^ Yes, but he could have tried bowling some Yorkers...I mean, if he needed some tips on how to bowl them, Gul could have easily given him a few :gul

Monsee are you refering to me? I did acknowledge Shoaib's expensive figures is the main reason we lost the match.

I believe he attempted a few in his last over - 3 of them were edged to the boundary.

The only poor piece of bowling from him was the second bouncer to jayasuriya that went for a six - unnecessary and the no-ball and wide ball in the final over. I believe the 1st bouncer (which went for six) was warranted as he had already hit jayasuriya.

this is why that i wanted us to lose against sri lanka in the group game. Thus we will come back even stronger like in the kitley cup.

We all know he is going to play against India...

Its still 3 months away, and if he wants he can lose weight... if he doesnt, i will never ever support him again for inclusion in the PAK squad (for what it matters :P)

I am confused. Did you not Shoaib Malik? It's pretty confusing for using first name that posses different characters between Akhtar and Malik. I take Akhtar as you meant about him. :akhtar

Try to use the last name of a player before you expect a confused, misunderstood comment :D

Who won Man of the Series?

Ajantha Mendis. Lankans are very happy. Somebody has posted on slcricket.com that its like a fairytale because a poor villager like Mendis has won a high rise apartment (Not that he's poor since he joined SL team though but heart warming nevertheless)

Some Tamils were protesting against him outside the stadium because he's a gunner in SL Army.

Rather dumb that. If they support the terrorists, wouldn't they rather have him play cricket than kill the LTTE members?

^ well not only that, they were protesting against the SL team asking them to be expelled from the country! There was a bunch of them outside the ground on Sat. with signs. Inside the ground a fight broke out because some guy had a tamil tigers flag that infuriorated the singhalese crowd. Having sat on the Lankan side, it all got a bit freaky!

Interesting. I guess Canada continues to host terrorist sympathizers and sponsors. And to think they have the gall to lecture Pakistan.

Yeah but I think then cops came over and asked them to put the flag away. Apparently it was funny because when the cops were coming over to their stand they were trying to hide it haha

I was at the match today and there were a couple of funny moments:
(1) Younis Khan comes in to bat, many people had the cards in their hands which say 4 or 6 on them, but as YK is not known as a boundary hitter, guy behind me asks "single ka card hai?"

(2) Sri Lanka is off to a great start including Jayasuriya two 6's off Akhtar, Salman Butt is posted close to the boundary where I was sitting, Butt tells a maulvi type of spectator, "aap dua karain"!

Hahaha :butt !!

On a very light and humorous note. Can someone please explain what kind of shot Weeraratne tried to play against Gul when the score was 115? That was one of the most brainless and useless shots and he tried to hit a straight ball for six with hardly any hitting technique what so ever.
