Alex Hales - Pakistan Super League 7 thread

sources have also mentioned the strict bio bubble was the reason why players like Moeen Ali and Faf du plesis chose BPL over PSL aswel, with paks security issue protocols mixed with bio secure bubble must feel like prison for some foreigners who are not use to living a lifestyle like this, its not as simple as saying they are pampered stars mental health shouldn't matter etc.

But, Malan, Livingstone got to the Eng national team after good PSL season and domestic performances. :afridi.

I explained it from Hales' perspective as his case is completely different. Malan and Livingston were anyways going to end up playing for England. Maybe their PSL performances quickened the process but they were always solid in the Blast and Livingston also had one great BBL season 2019 or 20 don't remember.

OTOH, Hales is completely out of favour with the English setup but with Morgan (biggest Hales detractor) set to go he may have sensed the chance of a comeback. And the likelihood of his selection is more if he performs in a two month long league with 16+ games and of superior quality and more coverage/exposure. Of course all this is just pure speculation at the moment and he might as well have real issues but just saying..

Lets consider hypothetically, if both IPL and PSL were conducted at same time and diplomatic relations between India and Pakistan were normal. How many Pak cricketers would choose PSL over IPL? Lets not add patriotism to IPL/PSL. Its pure business for franchises, players etc.

Generally the home players are not released for foreign leagues if local league is going on.

So IPL franchises are using PSL as a talent hunt tournament? :genius :inti

Well if IPL can use international cricket or Sheffield series ( Luke Ronchi in 2009) or Nepal cricket league (Sandeep lLmichhane) to recruit talent, PSL isn't that bad ( if that's what you are implying) that no talent cannot be picked up from PSL.

Not sure how many matches he will play in IPL.
He won't make into final XI. I think he is a back up option.

At this point Hales is just punting for a longer IPL contract. He knows he was picked up virtually at the last minute & will probably be benched, but doesnt want to take any chances with his performance in case he is in the final 11. He knows if gets a foot in the door in IPL, he can get millions the next time round.

On the other hand, PSL is not different from the other leagues like BPL in terms of payment even if he is subsequently dropped. He also knows PSL is practically starved of foreign players & he can return whenever he wants.

Very shrewd of Hales - cant blame him for that!

Update: Alex Hales will be returning for Islamabad United's remaining games in this PSL.

Should play Munro as well even if he is half fit. The other options in the squad are club level.

From IU:

Alex Hales had tested positive at the end of the big bash hence will be available for selection in the PSL remaining matches.

Whats his having tested positive at big bash got to do with PSL?

What does this even mean?

PCB medical team said anyone that got infected with Covid recently doesn't have to do the quarantine period. So for example players that were covid positive during Big Bash just came to Pakistan and didn't have to do Quarantine. I think it's because less chance of them getting reinforced.

That's correct yes.

woohoooooo, Islamabad United is backk in the game.

Just get Paul Stirling now and we are good to go :))

But I thought he just used PSL to get a contract with IPL. What in the world is going on here????

No professional cricketer or rather no professional would ever burn a bridge. If he has a bad season, then what? It’s not like Hales is ABDV or Warner.

If a player has some niggles there might be a possibility but if someone does it middle of a tournament it is wrong . Giving Hales benefit of doubt here that with a big IPL coming up, he may have wanted to genuinely spend time with his family.

It seems his family didn't want to spend time with him so he has decided to return to PSL again? :inti

This is absurd and he should be on very good terms with the Islu franchise to allow this to happen ie come and go as you please.

Good for the league though, and there is a buzz around these remaining playoff games which is good to see.

Hales and Shadab balance the team really well. They are needed to add competition.

Islamabad vs Multan seems like a spicy encounter.

So you're telling me this had nothing to do with the IPL...?

*shocked_face*

A massive L for the user that likes to stir the pot whenever he can, and is majority of the time wrong.

Unlucky man :))

Nice! If they can coax back stirling too somehow...then if they make the final it would be awesome.

For people doing bhangra over IPL being the reason for Hales leaving, there is talk that the extreme bio-secure bubble for the PSL was the reason for this.

PCB has apparently agreed to relax the bubble a little bit.

I hope everything is now fine at Hales' end.

Good to have him back in the PSL as he is one of the most destructive white ball batsman around.

Maybe a few extra quid made him feel better to

Shadab Khan "Alex Hales is the best player in the world. Whether it's in international cricket or in leagues around the world he has performed. He has experience and he is great for the younger players & I try to learn from him when we are batting together"

Another key innings today.

He’s just a very good player.

He could take IU to glory at PSL 7 almost on his own.

He is that good that he could hit any attack out of the park.

Such a shame he's not playing international cricket.

werent u the one saying would be funny if he played only one game and islu lost....

Guess he gets to play tomr now

What does that have to do with the post you’ve just quoted.

Don’t worry he won’t last too long. Shaheen to finally send the Islu burgers back home inshaAllah.

Should have been out in the first over. Young Haris messed up!!

He wasnt even very good yesterday. Peshawars pathetic fielding gave him like 3 lifelines. Shouldve been out in single digits.

Leading the charge against Lahore in this Eliminator 2.

He didn't want to burn his bridges with PSL. Probably got refreshed by a little break as well.

He is still a better t20 batter than Bairstow and can bat at 3 as well. But Morgan and co isnt going to let him back in.

So posters had said he left because of IPL, but than when Hales came back, those same posters couldn't come forward and accept they were wrong. Only for the same posters to make conspiracy theories on other things. This is why i hate conspiracy theorist. They never accept they were wrong and never learn from there mistakes.

While Alex Hales just seems to bat around carefree, but for the first time ever, i saw this guy actually playing for the franchise. He stood there batted for Isb and wanted it to win. When he got out the guy was gutted and sad there with his kit on. Good to see that sometimes players do actually start caring for their team.

I hope he didnt take any extra money for coming back though

I heard one of the commentators yesterday suggesting that he hadn't even left Pakistan.

Crazy tournament for him but one thing is for certain, he's a very fine batter.

Lesson to the PCB that perhaps they should think of bubble breaks for the players.

Or maybe what Mamoon is saying is correct that he has pulled out to keep himself fit for IPL. Its not one-off, Grant Flower left PSL mid-way for IPL auctions. So players/staffs knows their priority and plan their avialability accordingly.

Believe it or not, playing in IPL is no longer a matter of money. Its a matter of pride as well considering its history and ATG players associated with it over the years. When you retire, you can proudly say you were a part of a league where ATGs like Warne, Mcgrath, Sachin, Sanga, KP, Akhtar etc all played.

Infact, the ongoing West Indies tour of India is a dress rehersal for IPL. Nicholas Pooran himself said most of their team mates taking this series very seriously with IPL auctions coming up.

Alex Hales has just proved you and other arrogant IPL fans wrong. Money is not everything. If you really think these foreign players love India, Indian culture and feel proud to play in the tamasha league then you are delusional. :91: :inti

Talent scouting is defintely not IPL's forte. :inti

He “used” PSL to get an IPL contract, and now that he has been picked, he has left to keep himself fit and fresh for IPL.

The last thing that he would want is to get injured in PSL and miss IPL, which will start just over a month after PSL concludes with the training camps taking place at least a week before the IPL opener.

4D chess by Hales. Brilliant. :)))

:akhtar This has to be the funniest post ever considering what just happened. Loooooooool.
