[PICTURES] PSL 2025 Draft - Discussion Thread

He’s in the platinum just like Rizwan, Babar, Naseem, Shadab, Usama Mir
Whatever you may think of them, atleast they play for Pakistan and are some of the most recognizable cricketers in Pakistan.

I wouldn't put Usama Mir in that category either but even he atleast was the leading wicket-taker last time around and does get contracts for BBL and Hundred teams.

But Faheem Ashraf makes zero sense in Platinum.

Who should have been the Pakistani player to make platinum according to the draft rules?

So far the mega star picked is David Warner at Karachi Kings , even though all washed up at top level but won't be surprised if gets going in PSL.

Will there be shirt 👕 revealing ceremony at NSK for Warner

It is good that players from So, Afghanistan, Bangladesh are picked. This will certainly increase viewing in these countries

You have to give it to Peshawar management. Despite a drastically better player pool than last season they’ve somehow managed to put together a worse team.

Cricket can be so fickle & brutal at times. I don't think anyone picked Ihsanullah despite making tall claims about player health and well-being.

Maybe I missed something & he's been selected, correct me if I'm wrong.

“Hussain talat, Nahid Rana, TKC

Ase picks to Dushman franchise wale bhi nahi karwatee”

PZ fans on social media :ROFLMAO:

Does anyone know how much platinum players make? Is there any reliable source that shows these figures or is the PCB using their classic “20% more than last year, which is 10% more than the prior year” shenanigans?

KK against all odds have picked players sensibly this year.
bro they havent really. They have no pace attack.

Batting is great, like having both Warner and Williamson is Allstar, but they need to retain them aswell for future.

Warner, Williamson, Joseph and Mitchell to make their debut in PSL 2025

•All six franchises have assembled their squads at the glittering PSL 2025 Player Draft ceremony

•116 players from 10 countries make up the six HBL PSL franchises’ rosters; PSL 2025 is scheduled to take place between 8 April and 19 May 2025

Lahore, 13 January 2025:

New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell became the first pick of the HBL PSL 2025 player Draft as the two-time winners Lahore Qalandars roped him in to bolster their batting order here at the Huzoori Bagh in Lahore Fort on Monday afternoon. Mitchell, who has played 70 T20Is, will make his HBL PSL debut later this year.

Left handed batter David Warner was pouched by 2020 HBL PSL champions Karachi Kings as they made use of the second pick in the first Platinum round. Warner, with his wealth of experience including 12,727 T20 runs in 392 T20 matches, will also be among the list of notable debutants this season.

Peshawar Zalmi used the Right to Match option for Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who was picked by Quetta Gladiators. Kohler-Cadmore has represented Zalmi for the last four HBL PSL seasons. Gladiators then picked up New Zealand’s Mark Chapman, who has played 81 T20Is in his 10-year long international career and is a dual international as well.

Michael Bracewell and Matthew Short were the last two picks in the Platinum one round as they were gleaned by Multan Sultans and Islamabad United, respectively. Bracewell, an all-format player for New Zealand has played 149 T20s having scored 2744 runs and taken 66 wickets.

29-year-old Short will add to Islamabad’s explosive batting line-up as they look to add a fourth HBL PSL Trophy to their cabinet later this year.

In the Platinum round two, Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings had two picks each. Gladiators used their Wild Card pick option to snare all-rounder Faheem Ashraf to their squad.

Aggressive Kiwi opening batter Finn Allen was the other player Quetta picked in this round. Allen, 25, has played 47 T20Is for New Zealand and scored 1141 runs with the help of two centuries and at a strike rate of 158.69.

Karachi Kings strengthened their pace arsenal as they went for Adam Milne as their first pick of the Platinum two round and followed it up by using Wild Card on Mohammad Abbas Afridi.

Milne will bring in extra pace to the HBL PSL 2025 along with his experience of 186 T20s in which has bagged 213 wickets at an average of 23.61. On the other hand, Abbas Afridi, who will now ply his trade for the Kings, was the leading wicket taker – 23 wickets, for Multan Sultans in HBL PSL 2023 and also became part of the team of the tournament.

The Diamond round of picks saw Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars bag quality overseas talent in the form of Corbin Bosch, Jason Holder and Kusal Perera. Bosch was picked by Zalmi, Holder by United and Perera by Qalandars.

Peshawar Zalmi topped up their pace stocks by picking Bangladesh’s Nahid Rana in the Gold category round one. 22-year-old Rana has impressed one and all with his express pace in his brief international career.

In the same category, Islamabad United picked Aussie left-arm fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis, who has bagged 176 T20 wickets at an average of 22 in 140 games. He will join his fellow countrymen Riley Meredith and Short on the United roster for HBL PSL 2025.

In the Silver category round three Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was picked up by Qalandars. In a first, United States of America’s (USA) Andries Gous made it to the HBL PSL 2025 and he will turn up for Islamabad United. Multan Sultans added Irish pacer Josh Little and West Indies’ spinner Gudakesh Motie to their side during this round.

In the supplementary round one, Kane Williamson was picked by Karachi Kings, who will join his New Zealand teammate Milne. He will be one of the notable overseas signings for Kings along with Mohammad Nabi, David Warner and Litton Das.

Johnson Charles, Tom Curran, Kusal Mendis and pacer Alzarri Joseph were bagged by Sultans, Qalandars, Gladiators, and Zalmi, respectively in the supplementary round one. In the round two, Sam Billings was snared by Qalandars who used Right to Match card against defending champions Islamabad United, who later picked up Rassie van der Dussen.

Quetta Gladiators made a strong pick in the Supplementary round two as they bagged Australia’s Sean Abbott adding more pace and batting firepower to their line-up. Shai Hope was picked by Sultans while Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi will return to Karachi Kings this year.

Shoaib Malik will feature in his tenth consecutive HBL PSL edition as he was picked up by Quetta Gladiators in the Supplementary round three. Among the two Emerging rounds of picks, notable selections were, batting prodigy Hasan Nawaz going to Gladiators’ roster, while talented Maaz Sadaqat was picked up by Zalmi.

Saad Masood the right-arm leg-spinner, who can bat as well, made headlines in the recent Champions T20 Cup in Rawalpindi, found home in Islamabad United and will be marshalled by Shadab Khan himself. Hunain Shah returns to Islamabad United while Ubaid Shah was picked up by Multan Sultans.

Same as platinum but they will paid according to number of matches they play. For eg of david warner or mathew short sits on the bench whole season they will still get full amount but supplementary will get match per fees.
Will Williamson be willing to play in supplementary? How much a player earns in supplementary in psl?

If the supplementary means you can’t play the player unless a squad member picked during the draft first 4 categories+retained are either injured or have to leave for personal reasons meaning they will not be returning to the league….

Then Multan’s team lines up like this:

1. Rizwan
2. Yasir Khan
3. Kamran Ghulam
4. Usman Khan
5. Tayyab Tahir
6. Iftikhar Ahmed
7. Michael Bracewell
8. Chris Jordan
9. David Willey
10. Usama Mir
11. Akif Javed

I haven’t even included the emerging option here.

This is a pathetic side, something you would expect Pakistan cricket team to field!

How much do they get paid do you have any idea?
You get paid for the category you were registered in. But this makes no sense.

A guy registered in platinum doesn’t get picked in platinum, but gets picked in Gold for example (he may agree to this condition) will get paid less for a bloke who didn’t get picked in the draft but gets the nod in the supplementary in his category which could be platinum.

This needs clarification.

Even in this side, the most you will add is Johnson Charles

Shai Hope either replaces Rizwan or doesn’t make the side!

Once again Karachi Kings has a pathetic squad this year. I think they participate in the event just to be a meme material.

Quetta,Lohare,Islamabad these three teams should make the semi and I will go with Peshawar being the 4th team.

Since every team needs to have 1 Emerging playing in the XI. I think the best emerging pick is an opening batter. Every year you get exciting young openers, as supposed to fast bowlers. Your opening emerging batter can at least hit some boundaries in the power-play.

I suppose the best combo is having 1 emerging opener and 1 emerging pace bowler.

Either a opening batter or a spinner for emerging. Unless you are a tearaway level seamer like Ali Raza

Steve Smith prefered an IPL commentary contract vs registering and playing in the PSL. There cannot be a bigger chamat on the face of PSL then this.

Spinner is a risky choice unless its a mystery. Because if an emerging spinners gets under the hands of someone then rip.

Oh bhai why are you crying for these types of players?

You should be crying about players who can lift the playing standard of your tournament with dynamic batting.

Where is Beretzkee?

Where is Brevis?

Where is Konstas?

These are 3 players who will have a bigger net value in T20 throughout their career than Smith, Kane, Root. These are the players you should be asking for. They are not in the IPL this year! Expand your horizons to understand the game!

Why did Devald Brevis not register in the PSL?

I wonder if some of these foreign players think playing in the PSL hurts their IPL prospects or they were approached by the PCB and they demanded an excessive amount of money and a guarantee of being picked?

Good question, these are what you need to be asking. Otherwise it’s these Brevises and future big names that will also snub you in the PSL like Smith is doing now if you don’t know their reason.

Get these answers from Salman Naseer and franchise owners. Are they even approaching these players?

6th Category: 4 Supplementary rounds - these are not mandatory picks. You may choose to pick players from any category in these rounds within your salary cap. You can also opt to reserve these picks for later or opt not to pick anyone. A maximise of 2 foreigners can be picked >>

Yea. This season everyone had eyes on Hasan Nawaz and Maaz Sadaqat instead.
Islu had him last season they should of backed him this season instead of going with an overseas player.

Shame.

The PSL is all about finding and developing young talents like the two lads you mentioned.

Next year with 8 teams the talent pool will increase.

No need to get upset. It is up to the players to decide what is best for them.If Steve prefers commentary instead of playing in PSL then good luck to him.It will make no difference to PSL.

If he's not with the franchise making decisions on who to pick, maybe there's a rift.

Who do you hate more between Ali Tareen and Rizwan?
It means nothing.

Saud is the likely captain of QG. He wasn’t there either. Last year, Harris was doing the main drafting for PZ in Babar’s absence.

All the picks were done with Rizwan having a say. If he didn’t care too much and was happy with what the direction taken by the franchise, it says more about Rizwan than it does about his management because IMO, Rizwan actually doesn’t care about the team as long as his opening spot is secure. That was secured as MS really didn’t pick anyone who can threaten his position.

The kind of squad they have picked gives Rizwan the perfect excuse to open and bat the way he selfishly does.

Fans outraged over microphone issues during PSL draft

Many fans have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media regarding the “poor production quality” of the Pakistan Super League draft.

At the event, Lahore Qalandars selected New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell as their first pick, aiming to bolster their batting lineup. Australia’s David Warner was the most expensive player of this season.

Karachi Kings made a significant addition by signing renowned New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson during the supplementary draft round.

But the users were not satisfied with the management when they saw that the microphone stopped working.

“Shocking production for PSL draft. After 10 years, how can you get it so, so wrong,” one of the users, named Ahmed, wrote on X. “One of the worst I have seen.”

Several users pointed out that at one point, Shaheen’s microphone was not working, forcing some teams to announce their selected players without a working mic.

“How badly [are] these HBL PSL Drafts being conducted[?] No Mics no coordination. This happens when you have poor management,” another user, named Mohsin Aziz, said.

The issue began at the start of the draft when Lahore Qalandars picked their first player. Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi mentioned “Daryl Mitchell,” but his voice didn’t reach the stage. He had to repeat the name multiple times.

Karachi Kings’ captain Shan Masood faced a similar situation when he tried to say “David Warner.” On this occasion, Hasan Ali helped him by loudly calling out “David Warner.”

This made the participants laugh, and broadcaster Dominic Cork smiled as he said that Hasan Ali didn’t need a mic.

Quetta Gladiators’ coach Mohin Khan also experienced microphone failure, and his announcement of “Tom Kohler-Cadmore” was not heard.
