Ambati Rayudu takes back his retirement [Update Post #444]

Yes, I don't rate Rayudu one bit and will have Shehzad over him.

I don't know what Dhoni and the selectors see in this guy. He is not international standard at all. Nor is he a 'youngster' with bags of potential.

He is the worst batsman to have played for India in recent years. Total hack. Ugly batting style. Reminds me of the days of Shib sundar das, Nayan mongia and hrishikesh kanitkar. Dada was an expert in getting these sort of players out of the team. But dhoni is taking back to India in the 90s era. ...all good work done by Dada has been ruined by this idiot...

WRONG... Every captain has their favorites... Kaif and D.Mongia were the worst of the lot .. Kaif had 71 Strike rate after playing 150 games coming at freaking number 7 with barely 4-5 sixes... whereas lets not even talk about Dinesh Mongia

WRONG. Dinesh mongia was picked for 2003 wc ahead of VVS laxman because he could bowl as a part time bowler and he was a better fielder. India was struggling for a fifth bowler if you remember those days we had only Dada who can bowl a bit and sachin didn't bowl in 2003 wc because he had issues with his shoulder. Dinesh mongia was a correct choice imo.

I have huge respect for kaif for winning us NatWest series finals and countless batting partnerships with Rahul dravid which helped us a lot to chase big scores. If I remember correctly, he was a gutsy little guy who was never scared of going after fast bowlers. He was a wonderful fielder as well.

Now, tell me one thing about Rayudu . I would love to hear from you. :D

Kaif was a great fielder though. still remember his crazy catch in Khi in 2004. happened right behind me.

though I often wondered whats his point. Cant bowl and bats too low and at an avg SR to be useful either.

But used to save 20-25 runs each match in the field.

though Im shocked his SR was 72???? I knew he was no Afridi or Yuvraj but 72! Srsly? That's Dravid territory

32 from 54.

Feel sorry for India having to have this guy in the team. Ashraful's twin. Rubbish batsman.

Guy is scoring at SR of 50 on a flat Indian road, small boundaries and a lightening outfield. Real terrible knock once again.

Really poor batsman. Samson should replace him ASAP.

Sorry but Samson doesn't know how to make good biryanis.

If only he spends half as much time practicing how to make good biryanis as much he spends on his batting, he would have been in the playing XI by now.

He blew away a great opportunity today. Looked tentative and extremely nervous before throwing it away. Can play a lot of shots but somehow just doesn't seem to be confident enough

Clearly not rated if MSD has dropped him without a game.

:))

Samson may not beat the hype but clearly he's going to be a big upgrade on Rayudu. Quite a talented batsman and has very good confidence levels. Could be a long term number 4.

I agree. Actually I am also not sure whether Samson is a finished product. When you tie him down, he does do something crazy. I don't know whether he would be the right candidate for WC 2015 but our great Dhoni is using up valuable ODIs to test out players whom he will eventually be forced to discard.

Kedhar Jadhav is the most deserving guy and he didn't get selected for England squad (performed in domestic, IPL, Australia A tour - was a major reason why we won the Quadrangular Cup). Dunno whether he is injured or not for this series.

Samson is not the caliber of Kohli, Pujara and Rahane. These three are the stalwarts of the young generation.

Samson, Zol and Chand are all overrated to a certain degree. Don't know about Jadhav.

Born on the wrong side of the border. Would have slotted in nicely in Misbah's Pakistan.

I am sick of hearing about folks like Chand, Utthapa, Zols on cricinfo. But I haven't read a single comment during cricinfo commentary or arcticle about K Jadhav. K Jadhav is the most underrated cricketer who most indian fans never speak about or commentators on tv never mentioned once.

Check out his crazy stats. Strike rate of 106 with average of 50. That's just crazy.

Rayudu had good domestic seasons so had to be given the chance. Now he has had the chance and we all realize what he can do (and what he cannot do). Need to be fired now and the chance should go to Chand/Samson/Jadhav

Rayudu is such an uninspiring batsman - to be fair to him he's doing a good job here but he's so boring to watch.

This guy is a cancer to team India.

Useless version of Misbah. :yk2

I will not be convinced with Rayudu even if he scores hundreds for fun.. Indian batsmen should look graceful, that is the least I expect from them.

Gets a lot of unnecessary flak IMO

3 50s in last 6-7 innings is good enough. Is yet to be tested against high quality pace bowling on bouncy tracks but my view is he will be able to adjust.

Scoring at almost 100 sr now and is approaching a century. He's surprising many of us today.

I can never. I can't be so impartial and unbiased. But c'mon yaar.. why do we watch cricket? For entertainment. Do you get entertained by watching Rayudu bat? No.

Yeah it isn't fun to watch but he has scored runs here and at a good clip. Much more important.

If you just want to be entertained every time, Cricket will be filled with Afridi type batsmen. If grace was the only criteria for a batsman, Steve Waugh and Chanderpaul would have never played international cricket. For a fan it might be entertainment but the game itself is all about scoring runs and taking wickets. If a batsman is scoring runs regularly, no matter how ugly he looks scoring them, he deserves to play. He is definitely better than "Get to 30, plonk the foot and swing across the line" Sharma, who Indian fans love a lot.

Maiden ODI 100..Well played and thoroughly deserved. Hopefully first of the many more 100s to come.

Congrats Rayudu

A bit ugly to watch and seems suspect against the short ball. But he is gutsy and can raise the scoring rate if need be. Way more application evident than Tailunt.

How is afridi a graceful batsman? :))
He is just butchery, nothing else.

If Rohit had half the application Rayudu has, he'd have been a great by now

Comprehension problems? "If you just want to be entertained every time, Cricket will be filled with Afridi type batsmen." read it again.

Sandeep99 was talking about graceful batsmen and u responded to him.
I get your point, but the example was wrong :P

Yeah but for him, entertainment is watching graceful batsmen and not the afridi types.
Anyway yeah I get ur point.

He will cost us some important games in the future. I am pretty sure about that.

If you have to score a 100 to get your SR to 100, then you are a liability to a batting oriented team like India.

People are still cursing him? Have the grace to at least acknowledge that he's played well.

Would walk into Pakistan team as ace batsman.

Not ace batsman certainly. Credibility builds with time. He hasnt done enough to walk into any international team yet. If he performs in Nz and Aus ODIs before WC, we might play him the whole cup.

As of now, when Rohit, Dhoni are back, Rayudu will take back seat.

Rohit is already back and he is not in the X1.

Rayudu looks a misfit in this line up.
I would have tried out pandey, a decent bat & good fielder.

To be frank, he has played only 21 games, He was part of Indian ODI teams in NZ and England...He played only 2 games in NZ where he scored 57 runs but again no one baring Dhoni and Kohli played well in NZ. He did extremely well in England where he scored 2 fifties in 3 games. So I guess he deserves to play based on his performances. Rohit on the other hand has struggled overseas over the last year or so. Except for that champions trophy in 2013, he has hardly done anything overseas (All formats combined) to warrant any place in the Indian batting lineup.

Rayadu still riding the Biryani wave.

Even Rohit is better than Rayadu. There should be many better batsmen than Rayadu in India for sure.

I hope is only limited to carrying drinks in Aus.

Kohli wants to experiment before WC. He has said it before.

Rayudu is not an experiment, he has been part of the Indian team for months now. If you are talking about Rahane opening the batting then yes it is an experiment.

Sure there are, tell me one proven performer. IPL does not count.

He sure does take a long time to get going. He can accelerate but only vs spinners.

Remember even M.Hafeez has 3 tons in a single series vs Sri Lanka on tougher batting pitches vs tougher SL bowlers.
