Warner

G. Chappell
S. Waugh
Border *
Gilchrist (w)
Warne
Lillee
Thompson
McGrath

That is the greatest team of alltime (with players that I have seen). It is beyond doubt that DKL and JT are the best pairing I have ever seen (and the best in history - dont care for stats even though they will be awesome), add in SKW and GM and you have the greatest possible attack. The batting is ridiculously good too.

That side beats ANY team at home (typically 5-0, maybe 4-1) and would win away 75% of the time too.

I gave it serious thought but DW offers more aggression and I like that.

You have Hayden for that.

Against swing and seam, Langer is superior to both and can see off the new ball.

Waugh would have to do lots of bowling too I think. But overall that bowling attack is simply outrageous.

Strange you picked Thompson with Lillee but not Langer with Hayden.

It's the GOAT team if you replace Warner with Langer and Thompson with any of Gillespie, Hazlewood, McDermott, or Johnson.

Of the players I have seen live are

Steve Smith
Steve Waugh
Gilly
Warne
Gillespe
Alderman
McGrath
----------
McGill

In All-time XI, tough choice between RR Lindwall & McGrath, I went for the better batsman. None of them were equal to DK.

In recent XI, it was a tough choice between Alderman, MJ, CJ (McDermott), Lee and Harris - I went for Alderman for his skills of swing, he was very much unique among all those hit the deck Aussie style fast bowlers, and more of an English style length bowler who could swing & cut the new ball. Mark Taylor's finish was poor, but he was a fantastic opener at prime and one of the best specialist batting Captains cricket has ever seen. And, he was one of the safest 1st slip I have ever seen. Tough choices between Clarke, Smith & Mark for No. 5 - my preference was Mark, but I have to honor a guy averaging over 60 and constantly been top batsman in world for last 2-3 years.

How can you forget Brett Lee....guy was awesome .
. Was like a fit accurate and consistent version of shoaib akhter...loved watching him bowl

It's the GOAT team if you replace Warner with Langer and Thompson with any of Gillespie, Hazlewood, McDermott, or Johnson.

Other than MJ, the others cant clean Thommo's shoes. No one who saw JT bowl thinks any bowler could be more menacing, quicker and frightening bowler not to forget he was super effective. He has that added x factor. I didn't pick JT just to pair with DKL, but because I think his added fire would complete the best possible attack.

Strange you picked Thompson with Lillee but not Langer with Hayden.

Hardly, with the best A/R & pace bowler alongside two of the most brutal batsmen ever (especially against pace) belonging to another team, this Aus team would be 2nd best ever IMO.

Not to mention many of these pacers never toured India &/or Asia!

Lol it's very hard to pick an all time . I'll try my best though

Nobody would pick Langer in an all time XI. Hayden a contender along with Trumper with Ponsford and maybe Simpson the next level.

Trumper is the most overrated player from bygone era. Can’t think of a one good reason why he can be rated above someone like Ranji with the average of 33 against best opponent of time even if we adjust the average

Hayden
Langer
Bradman
G Chappell
Ponting
S Waugh
Gilchrist

Warne
Lillee

_______
Johnson

Close call Miller vs Johnson at #8. Johnson's peaks were atg but Miller was more reliable across a career whilst also being astonishingly talented.

Dunno if I agree with Warner being there considering you have seen Aussie cricket all the way back to the 70s but what a team...imagine having to face the pace of Lillee and the line of McGrath with the new ball, and just when you've had enough you have to face Thompson and Warne. Jeez. Tanda paani ki zaroorat hai.

From my life time a team just as powerful:

1. Hayden
2. Langer
3. Ponting c
4. S. Waugh
5. Clarke
6. Hussey
7. Gilchrist wk
8. Johnson
9. Warne
10. Lee
11. McGrath

Players I have watched

1. Hayden
2. Taylor (c)
3. Ponting
4. Smith
5. S Waugh
6. Clarke
7. Gilchrist
8. Johnson
9. Warne
10. Gillespie
11. McGrath

I wonder how lowly Richie Benaud is rated. This guy was the best ever cricket mind, a top class leggi (probably one of top 5), a capable lower order batsman (probably best ever No. 8) and a fantastic fielder (One of the best ever slip fielders, he used to field at mid on most of the time when he was bowling, still 1+ catch/Test indicates how safe he was). A cricket encyclopedia, whose books are a must read for cricket enthusiasts that want to know the finer things of the game. He'll be always my Captain in AUS XI - had Warne not been there, he would have made my AT XI as Captain.

Warne kills all the competition.

Richie would be perfect as the 2nd spinner in Asia.

You cant have seen half of these guys so are relying on review/2nd- ary analysis. Pick a team of folks you've seen.

Problem is that Warne and O'Reilly are definitely better bowlers and arguably Grimmett and MacGill as well.

And the Australian approach has traditionally been to pick the best XI first - 6 batsmen making the team on batting alone + keeper + four players making the team on bowling alone - and then picking the Captain.

(From those I have seen).

Hayden
Warner
Ponting
G. Chappell
S. Waugh

If I had to go for the best if all time.....

Trumper
Simpson
Bradman
Chappell G
Border
Miller
Gilchrist
Davidson
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

Hard to leave Lindwall out, and Benaud. The former might come in for Davo, the latter for one of the quicks on a spin wicket.

From only those that I have seen:

Taylor (c)
Slater
Ponting
M. Waugh
S. Waugh
Smith
Gilchrist
Warne
Gillespie
Harris
McGrath

Best ever Aussie Test XI

Not done this for a while. I will have:

Morris
Simpson
Bradman (capt.)
Chappell G
Border
Miller
Gilchrist (w)
Lindwall
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

Honourable mentions: Davidson (The Old Wasim) and Benaud.

I suppose on a spin track I’d drop one on the quicks, and put Benaud in.

Looks fair enough although I will have Hayden at top because he was brilliant in SC while the other two dont have enough experience in that XI.

Great cricket nation - I'll pick 12 (one'll get injured some how :) )

1. Gilchrist (W)
2. Trumper
3. Bradman
4. Greg
5. Ponting
6. AB
7. RK Miller
8. Benaud (c)
9. RR Lindwall
10. Warne
11. DK
12. McGrath

Have to open with Gilly (Or Ponting), because I want AB in the XI over Morris, RB Simpson or Hayden. If it has to be a specialist opener, AB misses out to Hayden.

I think the only thing aus cricket yet to have is atg all rounder or maybe idk if there are already few.

1. Morris
2. Trumper
3. Ponting
4. Bradman
5. G. Chappell
6. Miller
7. Gilchrist
8. Warne
9. Lindwall

11. McGrath

12th man: Benaud

1. Hayden
2. Ponting
3. Bradman
4. Chappell
5. Border
6. Gilchrist
7. Miller
8. Starc
9. Warne
10. Lillee
11. McGrath

I will take Starc over Davidson for his pace and wicket taking ability on any pitch. Besides, the bowling attack will be one dimensional with McGrath and Davidson playing together.

1. Matt Hayden
2. Bob Simpson
3. Bradman
4. Ponting
5. Border
6. Waugh
7. Gilchrist
8. Miller
9. Warne
10. Lillee
11. McGrath

3 top line quicks in Lillee, McGrath and Miller who bats at #8 so as to be able to focus on his bowling and hit freely down the list.

S. Waugh first played as a bowling allrounder and has around 90 test wickets as a handy medium pacer so he can easily handle the 4th seamer role as required. McGrath to bowl the long spells, Miller in bursts. Lillee does whatever he wants !

Warne main spinner, Simpson (70 test wickets) as extra if needed. Ideally we'd have a part time offie but leggies suit the oz style.

I don't believe any country can post a better batting lineup all the way down to a devastating Miller at #8 (7 test tons, 41 FC tons). 3 lefties, 4 righties in the top 7.

Hayden, Bradman, Ponting, Gilchrist with the aggression. Simpson, Border & Waugh for the tough runs & graft.

If all the players in this X1 play to their peak form, I don't think any team in the world can defeat this one. They have all the bases covered and Gilchrist is the best wicket Keeping batsman of all time. No one comes close. Shane Warne and McGrath together are devastating enough but when you add Miller and DK, it becomes a ATG attack. Batting till number 8 with Warne at 9. Amazing the amount of great cricketers Australia have produced over the years. There are quite a few names missing as well which shows how great Australia have been over the years.

Australia can easily put up another All time X1 in parallel and still be competitive and beat few of the other countries all time X1. They had Richie Benaud who was a very good spin option as well with a batting average of 25.

1 Trumper
2 Simpson
3 Bradman
4 Ponting
5 G Chappell
6 Miller (RF)
7 Gilchrist
8 Davidson (LFM)
9 Warne (LBG)
10 Lillee (RF)
11 Lindwall (RF)

I came very close to picking Glenn McGrath, but I think Ray Lindwall trumps him narrowly.

Spofforth and Grimmett came close too.

Australia has produced so many greats that even their 2nd Atg x1 will be better than any other team.
Australia 2nd choice x1 vs windies first x1 will be equally poised. What say?

Indian all time x1 will certainly come after aussie 2nd choice.
Pakistan has a better atg x1 than india but still aussie second choice will beat them.

An Australia 2nd choice XI should look like:-

Trumper
Simpson(assuming Morris and Hayden as first XI)
Ponting
Smith
Waugh(C)
Benaud
Healy(wkt)
Johnson
Lindwall
Gillespie
O'Reilly

With the first XI be like:-

Hayden
Morris
Bradman(C)
Chappell
AB
Miller
Gilchrist(wkt)
Davidson
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

And the 3rd Choice XI can be:-

Langer
Taylor(c)
Harvey
Martyn
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin(wkt)
Starc
Thompson
Grimmett
Hazlewood

Really great.
Even after making 3 teams many good players are still missing:
Ian chappell
Michael slater
David warner
Boon
Mark waugh
Ryan harris

Interesting one now.. My Aussies Test XI would be:-

Hayden
Langer
Bradman
Smith
AB(c)
Waugh
Gilchrist(wkt)
Miller
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

Among ones I saw:-

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Smith
Waugh(c)
Clarke
Gilchrist(wkt)
Cummins
Warne
Starc/Gillispie(probably Starc,he will clean the tail fast)
McGrath

Warner
Trumper
Bradman
Chappell
Ponting
Miller/Border
Gilchrist
Davidson
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

Ever....

Trumper
Morris
Bradman
Chappell
Border
Miller
Gilchrist
Davidson or Lindwall
Warne
Lillee
McGrath

On a turner I would drop Davo / Lindy and get Benaud.

Langer
Hayden
Bradman
Ponting
Steve Smith
Gilly
Warne
McGrath
Gillispie
Thompson
Lillee

Shocked so many missed off Bradman

I started following cricket from late-90's. I don't know many Aussie players before that period.

My XI would be:

Mathew Hayden
Mark Waugh
Donald Bradman
Ricky Ponting
Steven Smith
Steve Waugh (c)
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Shane warne
Brett Lee
Mitchell Johnshon
Glenn McGrath

This is one heck of a team.
