An apology to all Bangladeshis from a true Pakistan and cricket fan

First and foremost I want to get it out of the way that I love Pakistan Cricket and after that England/West-Indies but given how me mom was a huge Imran Khan fan I grew up being a bigger fan of team green then all the other internationals.

However along the way I've always had a soft spot for the underdog and always routed for them and there is no bigger underdog then Bangladesh in cricket, now for political reasons there are certain rivalries between teams but they shouldn't get personal because sport is not war !

Folk from the subcontinent may look at each other as if they are alien butt you're a lot more alike then you think and if push came to shove you'd seek refuge in each other because in the end you're just a product of all the big men in their suits and ties who orchestrate all the cat fights when it's not required tbh

So I request all the ego maniacs to please stop it with their sore loser attitude when it comes to Bangladesh. There are good and bad fans on both sides so I don't accept the excuse "oh Bengali x or y is annoying" and to put things into perspective BD have been ridiculed on such a big magnitude throughout their history.

BD be it from fan, expert, pundit, international cricketer or coach has been incredibly humiliated time and time again, they were thrown in at the deep end when it came to their test status and have been learning on the job ever since; they've not had the luxury of opportunity many would have you believe even now! just have a look at the number of Tests they play and the available opponent yet they continue to grow and develop against all odds.

So my question is WHY can you not let BD fans ENJOY their time in the SUN ? they HAVE PAID THEIR DUES! like no other, literally started from the bottom and scratched/clawed their way to get to the position they are in now so why can you not let them have their moment? they still have a long way to go and remain a work in progress but HOW CAN YOU NOT ADMIRE how far they have come?

It is simply outstanding reaching the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy, it's not their fault New Zealand could not beat them and it's not their fault Australia could not beat England but they did what they had to do! and EARNED their spot in the semi-finals, had Pakistan got in the same way you'd be writing poetry about it and doing a bhangra which gets televised by Sky News in the UK because we've never seen anyone celebrate with so much ecstasy before.

So I want to say sorry to all Bangladesh fans who have received abuse today and all those idiots who are claiming that you do not deserve to be in the semi-final because you do! Cricket is already a small sport when you factor in the number of teams which are playing at the top level and we could do with a Bangladesh which can compete with the top 5 in the world; so I welcome your progress and hope you continue to get better!

It's alright, reading some posts of certain people they know who they are got me very emotional! but congrats on your win and forget what they say because respect is earned on the cricket field and there is no denying you have earned your spot in the CT semi-final on the backdrop of hard work/consistency or else other teams would be ranked ahead of you, it's not like a product of anamolies but all credit to BD for the work they have put in which has resulted in positive results recently

Stupidity should have a limit. Don't be blinded by it. If you replace Bangladesh and replace it with England/Australia/India and ask the same question about why are they hesitant to tour Pakistan, most would not even argue with it. Individuals or less famous team are not main target of terrorist to come in the headline. They targwt the big one. No team would bother to feel safe by seeing ZIM team there who got lot of extra bucks to risk their life and travel to pakistan.

I can understand those posters who always try to ridicule bd and all of their success and their celebrations as i know why they do that. The fact is that these posters have never gone through a minnow status in cricket. They have grown under the glorious past of their cricket. That's why they will never know the feelings of a fan of a minnow cricket team who being ridiculed for decades.They won't find any reasons of minnow fan's celebrations over any simple win. THEY JUST CAN'T FEEL OUR FEELINGS OF WIN.

Which team toured Bangladesh with full tours and Returned for full tours as soon as they got Test status ?? That's what you call actual support, not pretending to support them when the time comes they are shown the hand.

As for Bangladesh they deserved the semis - they played well to get to the semis and it's good for cricket as a whole.

Shaz you didn't really need to create this thread - can't generalise fans based on a few bitter ones as all teams have such fans.

However, the most irritating thing we fans had to be faced was constantly hearing that:

"remove their test status".

Remove our test status for what purpose? I never heard anything like "Zimbabwe's test status need to be revoked". It was all about Bangladesh. It was also ironic that people made such remarks after we lost an ODI or two like what? Heck a couple of days ago someone said Bangladesh should give their status to some other deserving team. I mean we just beat Lanka abroad in a test match which might Aus have failed to do so.

Cricket fraternity lacks patience. It was never going to be easy for Bangladesh to succeed in cricket. Like average Indians, Bangladeshis are genetically less gifted. We are usually poorly built. Yes cricket is a game of skills but having good height does help quite a bit. India later progressed because they knew they had to work hard. So they focused on their strike rotation, on their technical skills, mental prowess which is why India are now a powerhouse.

WI of the past had both genes and the technical skills which is why they were the best of them all. They regressed technically but they are still producing some good fast bowlers and powerfull hitters.

People compare our rise to Afghanistan. True Afghanistan have done really well but their genetic built helps quite a bit. In this era of flat tracks having powerful batsman helps a lot. That is exactly why the Afghans have done better in the last 7 years compared to Bangladesh between 1999-2006.

As a team progresses and has players who are
-Smart
-Confident
-Technically adept
-Mentally strong

That is when they start performing really well. It was always going to be difficult for Bangladesh to win the hearts of fans outside the country.

I think, I wrote it 2 years back, around same time - it's all about performance. There is no free lunch - BD team has to silent it's critic. In sports, result is the ultimate - media mockery could pull Indian cricket team or English football team to a certain level, but at the end of the day,one has to back their paid agents.

Problem is, when people go beyond leg pulling - and these people are shameless, for every such hiding they'll keep AWOL for few days until next opportunity comes. Therefore, unless we reach to the famous WI or AUS level, I do expect such treatment. Things are improving, but still onus is on BD team to keep PP decent.
