After Sanjay Leela Bhansali was roughed up on the 'Padmavati' sets in Jaipur earlier this year, another shoot in the city has been disrupted by a right wing group. On Tuesday, members of Dharohar Bachao Samiti stopped an ad film shoot after the crew recreated Pakistan there. After taking proper permissions, the team had put up banners and signs like 'Welcome to Lahore', 'Karachi Sweet', 'Rawalpindi Chai Wala' in English and Urdu to depict Pakistan. After the group created a ruckus, the film's team was forced to stop the shoot and leave.
Ajay Kumar Sharma, the line producer for the shoot, tells us, "The ad is about a group driving from India to Pakistan to watch a cricket match. We had taken permission from the concerned officials and had even shared the script. On Tuesday morning, the protestors came and started misbehaving with us. We tried to explain that we have taken permission, but they didn't listen and threw away the boards. After the ruckus, we wrapped up and the team went back to Mumbai on Wednesday morning. They also said ki 'ab Rajasthan aana hi nahi hai shooting karne'."
Bharat Sharma, the patron of Dharohar Bachao Samiti, says, "I don't care if they had taken permission. They tried to put boards in Urdu on the Anand Krishna Bihari Mandir. So we told them to remove all the boards they had put up on heritage buildings and temples. When they refused, our members removed the boards themselves. Main ek baar nahi, sau baar kanoon ko apne haath mein lene ko tayaar hoon. I don't think this incident would hamper the image of Jaipur. In fact, people will feel proud that a local group took a stand against those who tried to hurt the religious and national sentiments of the people of our country."
Sub Inspector Narendra Singh of the local police station tells us, "The protesters asked the filmmakers to take down the banners and signs, which they did. There was no vandalism. So the matter was resolved and no FIR has been filed.
