Any example in cricketing history where a defensive, clueless captain was able to transform?

I find these comments by some ex players like Afridi laughable i.e. replacing Babar Azam is not the solution, bring in people to transform his mindset. I mean 3 years on the job is more than enough time to assess someone's overall leadership, captaincy, how they have managed and gotten the best out of their resources, how they have led in pressure situations. In the game of cricket, ultimately it is the captain who is in charge and who leads by example and decides the culture of the team.

Babar Azam's honeymoon period is now over and you can bring Ian Chappel as coach, he won't be able to do anything with his mindset. Heck Wasim Akram at Karachi Kings got frustrated with what he has to work with at the end of the last PSL season and there is a reason why Babar was told to take a hike this time.

Afridi himself was not able to change his mindset despite surrounded and given advice by greats. He is the last person to give anyone any advice.

Changing mindset is a lot of compromise to personal stats/records

Babar cannot change his mindset in T20 cricket, what is he going to do in Test?

Allan Border was not timid like Babar but initially was a reluctant captain. The ACB realized this and appointed Bob Simpson as the coach (first full time coach in cricket history) This lead to a transformation in Border"s captaincy and the Aussies slowly began to be a force again.

We need an aggressive coaching staff to change the boys into men.

If Miandad was in his 50s I would have loved to see him being the coach of this team. He knows how to love and also how to humiliate the captain. Babar would grow from a kitten to a cat under him.
