Marking the 40th day after Ashura, Arbaeen of Imam Hussain represents the day when the freed grand daughters of the Prophet and Imam Ali made their first visitation to the graves of Imam Hussain and his fellow martyrs.

Today, special after Saddam, approximately 25 to 30 million pilgrims pay homage to Imam hussain by walking from the shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf to the shrine of Imam Hussain in Karbala.

Arbaeen represents the largest human gathering but sadly it is not given appropriate coverage but this is now changing.

I wish well to all those going. Hope they have a safe journey.

This years, owing to Covid, it is largely limited to local Iraqis. But if by next year the world have overcome the pandemic the expectations are that it will be a record year in terms of attendance.

Arbaeen is associated with the remembrance of Imam Hussain’s younger daughter who is recorded to have been 4 years of age. Sakina or Sukana was the beloved of the Imam and was very close to her father as illustrated by the fact that she was accustomed to sleeping on the chest of her father.

It is recorded that when Imam Hussain came into the camp to say his final fair well, he sat on the sand with his infant daughter trying to her at ease as she knew that her beloved father was departing for the last time. She requested her father for one final wish, an opportunity to feel the warmth and smell the fragrance of her father’s chest one last time. The Imam placed his 4 year old daughter on his chest and his eyes filled with tears thinking about her plight.

After the Imam was slaughtered on the battle field, the army of Yazid directed their hatred of the Imam towards his infant daughter. She was chained and beaten all along the journey from Karbala to Sham (Damascus).

The events of Karbala and the cruelty with which she was treated resulted in her death while she was still a captive in the dungeon of Sham. She was buried in the prison and her shrine is still present in Damascus.

The following is an very emotional recollection of the conversation that may have taken place between the father and daughter as they bid their final fair well.

Thank you for sharing these links. One of the true tragedies of history. Being a sunni I was slightly shielded from the story of Karbala, when I read into the full of chain of events it shakes the soul.

I hope this walk goes well.

I am so happy you like the links. Pls note that Imam Hussain and his love is not the domain of any one sect or religion.

I would very much recommend that you visit the cities of Najaf, Karbala, Kazmain, and Samara in Iraq. Your perspective of love for the family of the Prophet will change. By this I am not saying you will change your religious views but that you will realise why Allah, the Prophet and the Quran have made the love of the family of the Prophet obligatory.

Iraq is very safe now, notwithstanding the pandemic. There are extremely well organised and cheap tour groups. If you can go for the walk at Arbaeen, then all you need is to turn up for you will be the honoured guest of Imam Hussain and the people Iraq will take care of all your needs.

I highly recommend you experience this love in the land of Najaf and Karbala. Your iman will not only strengthen but your worship of Allah will find greater perspective in the love of the Prophet and his blessed family.

InshAllah! Its funny you mention that as I was genuinley talking with some friends about visiting one day. The pilgrimage to Makkah is the first priority though but inshAllah after that I would love to visit.

Thanks for making this thread and sharing this information with us. What an informative thread.

Thank for your kind words.

Along with Imam Hussain the mission of Karbala would not have been complete withOut the contributions of his sister, Zainab. Zainab was a reflection of her parents, Imam Ali and Lady Fatima.

After the events of Karbala she was instrumental in propagating the message of Islam and defending it from corruption.
She was joined in this mission by Imam Zain ul Abodeen, don of Imam Hussain.

Here is an interview of a Christian priest who has written a book on the life of Hazrat Zainab.

Balochistan govt allowed to operate direct flights for Arbaeen pilgrims: Khawaja Asif

In view of the security concerns, Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Tuesday said that the Balochistan government was allowed to operate direct flights from Quetta to Iran and Iraq for Arbaeen pilgrims following a by-road travel ban.

Speaking in the National Assembly, the defence minister said that the government is taking all necessary measures to facilitate pilgrims travelling to Iran and Iraq for Arbaeen.

He emphasised that the safety and convenience of the pilgrims remain a top priority, and relevant departments have been directed to ensure smooth arrangements throughout the journey.

The defence czar informed the House that the government had restricted overland travel along the 800-kilometre route from Quetta due to serious security concerns, particularly the threat of terrorist attacks targeting pilgrim convoys.

To mitigate these risks, the federal government authorised the Balochistan government to operate direct flights from Quetta, allowing pilgrims to travel safely by air to their destinations.

The minister informed the House that one such flight had already been launched, and the government was pressing for more — either two flights daily or at least one regular service—to meet demand.

He said arrangements had also been made for onward transportation from airports in Iran and Iraq to the pilgrims’ intended sites.

He added that advertisements had been published over the past four days inviting private carriers to operate on the route, and all licenced private airlines had been allowed to provide services.

Chartered flights had also been approved to maximise the number of pilgrims able to travel safely.

Khawaja Asif said these measures were aimed at offering maximum facilities while avoiding the security hazards of road travel.

He urged potential operators and the market to take full advantage of the permissions granted.

The minister further said that during the recent visit of the Iranian president to Pakistan, the matter had also been discussed, and Iran had allowed an additional flight to facilitate the movement of Pakistani pilgrims.

“I want to assure the House and the people across Pakistan that the government is fully committed to ensuring safe, comfortable, and timely transportation for all Arbaeen pilgrims,” he added.
