well can't blame him too much, when you are desperate to eat and feed your family you will do anything.

I love the way people take these isolated incidents and make statements like "what is happening to the people in Pakistan"

Its a non issue really.

Trashy journalism. Rather than scolding the poor person why don't they just focus on the root of the problem. This man has done nothing wrong

well can't blame him too much, when you are desperate to eat and feed your family you will do anything.

the problem is they are mixing meat with " cows" meat and making it look like halal ..
other problem is he is justifying it to make it halal
tomorrow they are gonna start selling dog's meat ..

i know the root to these problem is poverty ..
hopefully something better can be done to help these poor people ..

why man? He is helping the police who will get their share from the profit and let the man go back to do his business. Wealth is spreading .. isn't that good?

agree with liberty

i would grab the journalist and put his head into the nearby wall

at least speak to the guy without sounding condescending.

the guy cutting the donkey has actually provided some very valid reasons, felt sorry for his plight

although
poor donkey

i bet the journalist himself is the biggest hypocrite from here to the ends of the earth

...and our leaders are living lavishing lives while the awam has to fake Haram into Halal...

I cant stop thinking about guillotine choking this reporter untill he passes out.

Also why does he look and sound so indian? lol

Is he trying to pass donkey meat as other meat and cheat people? If not, I dont see what the problem is. Its funny when people who eat some animals get outraged when others eat other animals

Guys, please refrain from making any offensive comments and discuss the topic on hand only

Thanks

Really feel sorry for this poor guy.

Thats what happen when you keep selecting same rulers over and over again.

I know it is easier to say than doing it but People of Pakistan needs to take a stand against these corrupt politician and so called ruling elite of Pakistan.

Do people eat Donkey meat in Pakistan?

I mean if they eat, then what is the issue ? It will be an issue if he is selling it as something else.

Thought provoking article:

http://www.express.com.pk/epaper/PoPupwindow.aspx?newsID=1102855212&Issue=NP_KHI&Date=20150519

Some key points:

* Pakistani muslims dont eat donkey meat.

* Uptil 2013 the price of skin of donkey was 800 Rs. and was way cheaper than the skins of cow and bell.

* Uptil 2013 Pakistan was exporting 4,500 donkey skins per year.

* When chinese traders came in Pakistani market they start buying the donkey skin as it is more stronger than the cow/bell and with some "touches" can also be pretend to be a horse skin which is very expensive.

* Nowadays the price of skin of donkey is from 12,000 to 20,000 Rs. Meanwhile the price of skin of cow is 3,000 to 3,500 Rs and the price of skin of bell is 4,000 to 4,500 Rs.

* Nowadays Pakistan is exporting 150,000 donkey skins per year.

* A healthy donkey cost 25,000 to 50,000 Rs. Its weight is 150 to 200 kg.

* Butchers sell donkey's skin in market for 12,000 to 20,000 Rs.

* Butcher then make small pieces of donkey's meat and sell it in the market to big hotels, restaurants etc. who buy in bulk and to general public, pretending it to be cow/bell etc.

* Butchers are making 10,000 to 20,000 Rs. profit on each donkey.

I remember seeing a YouTube video clip where an investigative journalist caught a butcher slaughtering a donkey in Karachi. [emoji206]

This reminds me of the Anthony Bourdain "No Reservations" episode about Quebec. Deep in the heart of Quebec, he visits a restaurant with a Pakistani sous chef named Omar. His specialty is Donkey Nihari. Bourdain loved it.

Then he said, "Yes, donkey. Anything wrong with that?"

People will do anything to make more money. In Europe, even with all the regulations and checks over food labeling, horse meat is regularly sold as beef. And beef is regularly sold as lamb.

You have to admit, ***** Karahi has a certain alliterative ring to it.

Other possibilites include Gobhi Gadha, Gadha Galfrezi (see what I did there?) etc

So the colloquial term for donkey is also banned. Interesting.

Hmm. Gotta think of something else. Gadha Galfrezi would work here in Cairo very well, since J is pronounced G anyway. :yk

I wonder why they do that. I had an Egyptian neighbor as a kid, named Majid. For years I thought his name was maggot, because that's how he pronounced it, and I couldn't understand why anyone would do that to their kid. Then one day I saw one of his school notebooks, and realized it was because of the whole J vs G sound thingie.

And here we thought fake Halal meat places were bad :))

Any fake halal places that exist today are no match for the "Halal Pork" shops in New York in the late 60s.

Enterprising butchers in Brooklyn and Queens, when they noticed Muslim communities popping up around them, started slaughtering the animals in the zabihah fashion. Some of them didn't know however that you can't halalify pigs, hence the signs.

Egyptian Arabic is different from other forms of Arabic. There are a few differences in pronunciation, etc, and a lot of differences in day to day conversation. One of the things they do is pronounce Jeem (J) as Gaf (like in Urdu) (G), although there is no Gaf in the Arabic alphabet, so they just completely turn it all on its head by calling the letter a 'Geem'. However, in Quran recitations they generally say it correctly but otherwise, no. For example, one of the famous former President's name was Jamal Abdel Nasser, but he is completely known as Gamal. Camel is arabic is also Jamal; no worries, in Egypt, it's Gamal. Lots of names change this way, including the one you mentioned, Majid (Maged).

No, no, no and no. Don't you guys get it, the dish name has to be alliterative.

There was a program on Geo that used to go around exposing malicious and illegal activities in Pakistan (I forget its name). There was an episode where they found some restaurant spots where they were using oil from bones of dead donkeys as well as corpses to cook their food. Pretty foul.

In China gutter oil is very common.

1,600 kg donkey, horse meat recovered by police in Lahore; two arrested

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Local police raided an illegal slaughterhouse and recovered 40 maunds (1600kg) of horse and donkey meat in Harbanspura locality on Tuesday’s wee hours, local media reported.

Police said, the unhygienic and non-halal meat was to be sent to markets early this morning.

The meat is usually sold early in the morning to the city’s local restaurants swarmed by customers all the time.

Two people involved in the heinous business have been taken in custody.

It should be mentioned here that two persons were arrested some time ago in the same area for selling donkey meat.

The Punjab government claims that it is making efforts to stop the sale of dead meat of halal animals as well as donkey meat, yet the practice is continuing unabated across the province.

You never know what Gosht you are offered in hotels these days .

Is eating Donkey and Horse meat prohibited in Islam?

Any animal that has died before being slaughtered for consumption is impermissible..

Horses are allowed, don't know about donkeys.

Is eating Donkey and Horse meat prohibited in Islam?

Yup. Even if it wasnt it still wouldnt be okay because they were calling it as other kind of more premium meat

I remember there was a scandal in LUMS 3-4 years ago when the Dining hall (PDC I think its called) was serving traces of donkey meat to students and there was a whole boycott and management had to be changed.

Though to be fair (not sure whether its the best terminology here) this is not just a Pakistan, or South Asian or even third world country problem. They were selling horse meaat and calling it beef in Western Europe as well 2 years ago. Like they would mix the 2 and increase quantity. So certainly not a unique issue

Horse and Rabbits fall in makrooh category. Not halal or haram but eating them is discouraged (makrooh).

What if a Muslim consumes these non-Halal items without his knowledge?

I have seen Arabs eating Camel meet but never in India ( Muslims). Is it permitted?

Camel is Halal not only Arab but all muslims including Pakistanis eat it but you will mostly get its meat on Eid-ul-Azha not in normal days.

If God did not intend for us to eat animals, then why did he make them out of meat? - John Cleese

If God didn't makew fopr us to rape women,l why did he.... well please  Do you even realize how stupid you sound while quoting that?

Not a big surprise. You are what you eat.

Camel meat is allowed, but it's not very delicious.

Kinda tough and salty..
You've never had camel meat cooked in the sand for 8 hours then. Kind of Nihari meat but softer, which melts in your mouth (all gay jokes aside), with a zip of whisky.

I saw a program where they were selling rat and dog meat too.

I lost my appetite when i saw it.

Dog meat is a delicacy in North East past of India.

Chinese eat both Dog as well as Cat meat. Lizard Soup is also very popular in China.

The Africans not only eat Rats but they eat Bats also, all of it is called Bushmeat.

And We don't know about how many Lahoris have been enjoying Donkey meat without their knowledge.

To be quite fair.. its actually very easy to tell what kind of meat one is consuming.

You can instantly tell if its lamb, beef or something totally different.

In India there are certain tribes living in jungles who eat almost everything that moves. Be it animals or insects or birds.
For the first time in Chattisgarh i saw bamboo curry too.But we tend to consider it as their cultural thing.

I am very perticular about my meat, i need to know the source before i eat it.

^Rat meat?

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK.

Not legally but people selling rat samosas as chicken samosa or selling dog meat as some other meat by fraud.

Dont want to post the links here but you can use the right keywords in youtube and there are tons of videos

A delicacy in China is to eat monkey brain.. mildly raw.

YUCKKKKKKKKKKKK

One of my friend that lived in China for many years told me that but i didn't believe it he said they make a hole in monkey brain and put a straw :(

Of course.

Cuisines are very different all across the world.

In African countries its quite common to eat fried spiders and bugs..

Yeah bro. That's true.

Was talking about it from a general SC POV.

Someone hated lizards in the other thread and I posted a lizard delicacy dish and he called me a SICK fellow. :))

I maybe wrong but heard some old tribes in china use to eat even their own dead born babies?
