Are players in the current English ODI squad really more talented than their Pakistan counterparts?

Some fans here believe the depleted XI which England assembled yesterday had played who were more skillful than Pakistani players.

Do they really think that Salt, Malan & Crawley are better than Imam, Fakhar & Babar? Or the trio of Mahmood, Gregory & Overton is more skillful than Shaheen, Hasan & Rauf? Or is Parkinson more talented spinner than Shadab?

Even the List A numbers of most of these English players aren't great.

Winning is a mindset. It's a learned instinct. Something you develop by backing good performances, with even better performances. That's essentially what everyone means by form: good momentum. England is on a high at the moment, so that trickled down to their entire camp. This just gives us the perceptions that their bench strength is something unheard of. It's decent at best.

On paper, Pakistan is the stronger side by a huge margin, and again on paper, should be able to compete really well even if England fielded their first XI. However, Pakistan is historically known to have complacency issues. (Bit of tangent) We have somehow embodied the 'cornered tiger' spirit and that has manifested in that we don't really play to our full potential until we have to 'fight back' or 'exact revenge'. Look no further than the CT17 opening game and the final. This is also why Pakistan are considered jittery starters at tournaments (always a few shocking losses), and only get better as it goes on.

While it's not bad to have that spirit, it does mean that we usually find that even with a very strong team, Pakistan isn't able to dominate for extended periods of time. Like how we were Number 1 in T20Is for quite some time, but then got blanked 3-0 by Sri Lanka's second string team at home. I never understood why players take pride in the "unpredictable" tag. Should prefer consistent/continually improving efforts rather than the occasional/seasonal brilliance.

There was a time and place for the 'cornered tigers', and I think we should now move on.

We had a bad day and we will bounce back.

1 bad game

were at our home away from home Lords on Saturday we will fire back.

Drop Faheem and bring in Nawaz

We will always lack professionalism as long as we have an unprofessional coach like Misbah.

They are all more talented than most of the Pakistan players. The only ones who are more talented than their English counterparts are Babar and Rizwan.

Yes 100%.

Our most best players (Rizwan,Babar,Shaheen, Fakhar) will barely make it to the first XI of India, England or Australia and would in most likely hood be in their A team's.

The rest wouldn't even make it to their C or D teams as seen yesterday and would probably be participating in the second Xi domestic competition. Such is the case with Pakistan today

Rizwan is a more talented ODI player than all of the English batsmen who played yesterday bar Salt?

Once again - the answer is a resounding yes.

Pakistan is the least talented and the mentally weakest cricket nation in the world.

Good point. Even Shreyas Iyer would walk into Pakistan Team as captain in ODIs and T20s.

He would be a superstar in Pakistan.

Karun Nair scored a 300 against Anderson and Broad and his career was over because he followed that up with 5-6 lean innings.

In Pakistan, he would walk into the Test team and outperform everyone one.

There are dozens of other examples.

The reserve and fringe players of the top sides are better than our main players.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore, the English batsman who played for Zalmi back in February, will probably not even get into the England Z team.

However, if he plays for Pakistan, I can bet my bottom dollar apart from maybe Babar, he will outscore and outperform everyone in the ODI team.

Same goes for someone like Billings who can never get into the first-choice England XI.

Wrong Cadmore, Clarke would get into England team but they are involved in a court case that’s why England is not selecting them.

But they cannot get into the first-choice team, but they would be star performers in Pakistan.

The thing is England have a system where every player is given a plan, the team as a whole is given a strategy. Unknown players become superstars overnight partly due to this structure and partly because Pak loves helping them.

When you look at Pak’s approach, you can see there is no plan. Makes you wonder what the coaches are preparing or doing apart from looking forward to their next hefty pay cheques.
