In the last few years, we have watched with dismay as the Modi led fascist govt. came to power in India. This followed with Brexit in the UK and then the inauguration of the Trump presidency on a background of conservative and right-wing politics.

Of course, these protests are primarily about Police brutality and systemic racism in the US. The shocking deaths of innocent young black men at the hands of the Police and white public should not go unchallenged.

However, it must be noted the last few years have bear witness to rising Islamophobia, far-right extremism leading to such horrify acts such as the Christchurch massacre. Eastern Europe has also seen a worrying rise in Populism.

But as the protests have widened to places such as Australia and the UK, are there more layers to these protests? Is this a riposte to the populist movement that has so emboldened the racists and fascists?
