Arsenal started their Premier League campaign with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leicester City.

Follow and discuss the club's season on this thread.

They looked a little shaky in the defense again. Hope they get better as the season progresses.

Arsenal fans are some of the worst and most entitled fans around. Arsenal Fan TV has become a by word for their idiocy. Treatment of Wenger a disgrace.

I think Arsenal will do well this season because they won't have Champions League distraction. Lacazette looks a good purchase. Giroud off the bench is a great option.

Should send the kids to play the Europa League and focus completely on the Premier League.

Plus, we need to play a 3-5-2 instead of a 3-4-3 against teams like Stoke, West Brom etc. Giroud and Lacazette up top can be an effective partnership.

Arsenal need a combative midfielder who can add steel to the spine of the team. They've needed this since Gilberto left several years ago. Chelsea have Kante and now Bakayoko. City have Yaya Toure. Unt have Pogba and Herrera. Etc.

Who do Arsenal have? Xhaka - well he had a dire first season meanwhile Elneny and Coquelin continue to flatter to deceive.

We also haven't replaced Cazorla yet. Ozil and Alexis don't have to come deep to receive the ball when Cazorla plays. Unfortunately, he's been injured during 70% of the last 2 seasons.

LOL what an embarrassment this team is. Most championship teams defend better than this lot.

Wenger might get sacked this season. His team looks disengaged & he has caught syndrome of 70 .....

Rumours that Oxlade-Chamberlain may be leaving. He was the clubs second best player last season behind Sanchez. Would be quite something if Arsenal sold both of them before the deadline next week.

Three players on final year of their contracts and unwilling to agree new ones. How is this not going to affect the other players?

We played as individuals and not as team today. Each and every player was awful...
I know this happens to us every year BUT today seemed different. Not a single chance on target speaks volumes.

You know you are talking to ignorant and entitled supposed football fans when they talk about a season being over in August. SMH.

Arsenal have a few issues but they are fixable (transfers/formation/comebacks from injuries etc)

Spurs' Wembley issue is insurmountable.

Rumours that Oxlade-Chamberlain may be leaving. He was the clubs second best player last season behind Sanchez. Would be quite something if Arsenal sold both of them before the deadline next week.

After today's display, I am afraid Arsenal will have to pay transfer fee for some club to take him. This guy is expecting around £170K/week, to live in north London & play for one of the best clubs is world, under a great manager!!!!!

Arsene needs to get tougher. I feel he is becoming too soft to star power. Still he is Arsene Wengar & he has managed, developed players like Henry, Bergkamp, Adams, Viera.... There is enough talent available with the money Arsenal can spend, he has the reputation & contacts to pull players, from main land Europe, Africa & Latin America.

To be honest, apart from Cech, none deserve to show face tonight. Wenger has 2 years contract, which is enough time - if not finishing 4th, he can make CL next year through Europa, but he must start to bring house in order. He has probably 35 players in roster, which is too many and many of them are not interested either. If not this window, he must clear out the stable by January & June to start from scratch from next August - if anyone can do it at Arsenal, we have to trust in Wenger. Otherwise, I see Arsenal going down to mid table for long years.

Sad to see Ox go. He was our second best player after Sanchez last season. I guess he's had enough of Wenger playing him in the wrong position.

Man City make stunning player-plus-cash offer to Arsenal for Alexis Sanchez

Manchester City have lodged a stunning bid for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez by offering cash plus Raheem Sterling.

The Gunners have been resolute in their stance to not sell the Chile international but according to the Mirror, City will use Sterling as a sweetener.

Sanchez is into the final year of his contract and Arsenal risk losing him on a free with the 28-year-old already rejecting a new deal.

The report in the Mirror says contact between the clubs has been made and City have lodged their shock offer, although the Gunners may only be tempted to selling for around the £70million mark, which has not been offered in cash by the Manchester club.

https://sport360.com/article/footba...fer-to-arsenal-for-alexis-sanchez/?google_amp

Why would Raheem even consider moving in that direction? He'd rather stay at City and compete/win major titles than move to a club who think finishing 4th in the league is a major achievement.

Poor Arsenal a mid table battle awaits Europa is ur only hope #UCL qualification

We actually need a new manager asap, fed up of Wenger's horrible tactics. Why on earth would you play 3 defenders at the back and play Bellerin out of position? Why is lacazette and Kolasinac on the bench? Why isn't Wenger spending any money on quality star players? I usually see White Hart Lane from a distance from where I am and I can see how they are making big moves to become a good team but we're falling behind. We need a manager who is tough and can make us play attacking football like we usually been doing in our history. Cech was the best player against Liverpool whereas the rest were trash. We need a solid centre back and a BIG guy in midfield.

Both sides will think they are on a good deal there. Arsenal get rid of a player who has never kicked on and flattered to deceive in the six years he's spent at the club. Liverpool get a guy who is a fan, determined to prove himself and I think Klopp will get more out of him than Wenger.

Tomorrow could be carnage for us Arsenal fans.

I say "fans" because the board and the owner will be delighted to get £60m for Sanchez...

What a sorry state of affairs.

There will I think be a crash in football market soon.

Prices are out of control and being fed by unstable/corrupt regimes/people from China/UAE/Qatar/Russia etc

Wenger has a degree in Economics. He can see what is going on and being deliberately very careful.

I used to work in the Investment industry and had a particular focus on football club sector at one point. (This was in the days when you could buy shares in Liverpool or Arsenal for about £1000-5000 each. Each share now is probably closer to £20000-100000 if not millions!)

FFP (Financial Fair Play) will come into force at some point and there could well be another Banking crisis so they may start calling in their loans on some of these clubs.

I think Arsenal are right to be very conservative.

In this day and age the transfer window is essential to success. Those who masters the transfer window will end up having success and those who has no Idea how to operate in a transfer window will struggle.

Arsenal has been in denial for many years and has had terrible transfer windows for many years now and its repercussions will take many years to go away. They have been in denial, because they have not been willing to pay for quality and instead they have settled for cheaper average ability players. They have totally misread which direction football was going because for every year the transfer prises goes higher and higher and they are still not willing to pay.

They could close Thomas Lemar if they were willing to pay more.. They could have had Kante if they were willing to pay more.. They have missed out on so many players because they were not willing to pay.

So Arsenal need a new owner. The current one is not willing to spend on the club.

Wenger is not working for a bank, but a football club.

This year they missed out on CL = Instant loss of money.

Fans are losing interest in the team, because 3 games into the new season and Arsenal are already pretty much out of the title race = Instant loss of Money.

You've obviously no idea how to run a business let alone a football club

You've obviously no idea how to run a business let alone a football club

Most business have debt, finance..
as long as you can service that debt and have assets. With gate receipts, sale of merchandise and much larger tv revenue a club should be able to spend more in player prices and salaries whilst servicing a large debt/mortgage.

Arsenal have almost no debt whatsoever and hence no excuse for not spending.

OX in Liverpool colours - a bit sickening if you are an Arsenal fan :)

Agreed with everything said here. The hike in football transfer prices are abnormal of late and would have financial implications on us 'the fans'. How do you think the clubs are going to get back their abnormal spending by? Expect an inflation in match ticket prices, merchandise, season tickets, etc. The sponsorship prices and tv rights would also become expensive which we the 'fans' end users will bear the grunt of, expect increase in sky/BT tv packages to watch football.

People here claiming that rise in transfer prices are the new norm, but this is happening way too fast and the bubble will eventually burst bringing in more regulation and financial control measures. We as end users of this game called football will bear the worst of it all.

Shocking news.

They're selling everyone else may as well have sold Chambers too.

Despite being a little sad over Ox leaving, I am happy that we got 40 mil out of it. Now if only we spend that money and get some new players. Now if only we can get a proper defensive midfielder, that would be great. And praying that Sanchez doesn't get sold.

OX in Liverpool colours - a bit sickening if you are an Arsenal fan :)

They hammer Arsenal 4-0, then Ox turns down 180k/week to accept 120k/week at Lpool and now it looks like Liverpool still haven't given up hope of signing Lemar (despite Wenger being told that there was no way he was for sale) lol.

This time it's not his fault - rumour is, he indeed offer £92mn!! I take 25% discount, still £70mn is lots of money for a 21 years old with only 7 caps for France & no goal (till yesterday). But, Lemar probably didn't want to come to a unsettle house, that too not in CL & might not make it next time either.

In future, I see him landing at Barca or may be at Klopp's next club!!!!!

Finish 5th, sign just 2 players and get rid of about half a dozen. End up with a positive net spend. The shareholders will be happy.

I really doubt that lemar didn't want to go to arsenal - Monaco have sold thr big guns this yr- why stay.

Reality is that wenger cannot do business - hence last minute attempts to buy lemar and selling sanchez. Get more fore sanchez and waited till mbappe to be sold - supposedly making hard for Monaco to find a replacement for mbappe - thus making lemar being sold

Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of my favourite players and the fact that he signs for Liverpool just hurts me. We're selling half our squad and not buying anyone, we're not finishing top 4 this season.

Arsenal FC will not be able to compete seriously for the EPL as long as Kroenke remains in charge.
The business model that the bigwigs at the Emirates Stadium facilitate is effective in returning the dividends they crave but can't keep the team competitive.
Wenger has his faults, a stubbornness to move away from the Barcelona lite style of play and back to the powerhouse players in midfield ala Vieira, Petit and Gilberto would help, but 80-85% of the ills plaguing the Gunners are at board level.

Mesut Ozil: Arsenal midfielder tells ex-players to 'stop talking and start supporting'

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has defended his performances for the club and urged critical former players to "stop talking and start supporting".

Ozil, 28, and his team-mates have received criticism after poor performances so far this season.

The Gunners lost 4-0 against Liverpool in their last Premier League game.

"Personally I've had to accept a lot of criticism during my time in London," Ozil said, writing on his Facebook page.

The German international, who joined Arsenal four years ago from Real Madrid, said he felt he could be proud of winning three FA Cups in that time.

"Too expensive, too greedy, bad body language, and lacking fight - this is what people have said about me," he said.

"Some of these comments are made by those who do not know me, some are made by former players - both successful and unsuccessful during their time here at the club. Although criticism is something that all football players have to deal with, I nevertheless expected legends to behave like legends - my advice to these former Gunners is stop talking and start supporting."

Achievements at Arsenal

Arsenal, and manager Arsene Wenger, have received criticism during the early part of the season for poor performances that saw the club lose at Stoke and Liverpool in consecutive games.

Former players Ian Wright and Martin Keown both said Arsenal were in crisis, with Wright describing the club's situation as "a nightmare".

At the end of the transfer window Arsenal missed out on target Thomas Lemar from Monaco, while Alex Oxlade Chamberlain joined Liverpool, and striker Alexis Sanchez came close to leaving the club.

"We have achieved a lot in our four years together," Ozil said. "Three of the 13 FA Cup victories have been accomplished in the past four years, with the other 10 taking 75 years for the club to win. This is in addition to our three Community Shield wins.

"After all, six [trophies] in four years is quite something. However, this only makes myself and the team even more disappointed for not playing a role in the title race at the end of last season - this is something we hope to change this year.

"Even though I personally do not know how my career will continue after this year, I look forward to my fifth season with Arsenal. This is because Arsenal is a great club with great people and great traditions. I am glad to be able to wear your shirt, Gooners. I've had so many great moments in the last four years and I really appreciate what this club means to the people of London, the UK and all over the world."

Why do Arsenal leave themselves in a situation year after year where so many of their top players are left with a year on their contract? Who is in charge of contract negotiations? No other top English team has this problem.

We actually have a decent squad but Wengerhas not structure for this team. He plays players out of position and just tries to fit players into the team because of there name instead of thinking about what's best for the team and the opposition were facing.

Think we may just about make the top 4 but this squad with a manager who is tactically astute and can motivate players, we would at least challenge for the premier league.

Worried about our CM opitions when Xhaka and Ramsey are out form or are injured. Don't think Coq and Elneny can be relied on week in and week out. I would like to see us play 3 CMs as this will get the best out of Rambo and Xhaka as well, also think we're better with a 4 man defence. Don't mind 3 at the back, problem is Wenger just plays players out of position and doesn't know how to set up defensively.

Club statement following Cologne (h)

Following last night's UEFA Europa League match with Cologne we would like to stress that fan safety was always our paramount concern and informed all decisions made.

We worked in full consultation with police and UEFA officials on the night and in advance of the game and had taken extensive steps in advance to prevent tickets being sold to visiting supporters.

This included a number of measures including ensuring no tickets were sold via general sale and that no red memberships purchased after the draw were able to be used to get tickets in the home end for this match. We also worked with our colleagues at Cologne to stop supporters travelling without match tickets.

The 3,000 tickets issued to Cologne fans was in line with competition rules but it is clear many more visiting fans arrived, causing significant congestion and disturbance outside the stadium before kick-off. Many tickets were sold through touts and this is very disappointing.

We have launched a full review into the circumstances surrounding the game and will ensure any lessons that can be learned are used in the future.

Today showed that Arsenal can battle hard and fight the opposition and play ugly if needed.

Superb effort from the Gunners and looked like the best team overall today.

Arsene Wenger hails Arsenal response at Chelsea after Liverpool loss

Arsene Wenger hailed Arsenal's battling performance in the 0-0 draw at Chelsea on Sunday, saying it was "vital" the team showed a strong response to the heavy defeat they suffered at Liverpool.

Arsenal looked a totally different team at Stamford Bridge to the one that lost 4-0 at Anfield in their last away game, putting in a disciplined and determined display against the defending Premier League champions.

They even came close to netting a winner on two occasions as midfielder Aaron Ramsey hit the post and Shkodran Mustafi had a goal ruled out for offside.

For Wenger, though, the most important thing was the manner of his team's performance after they were criticised for their lack of effort at Liverpool.

"I felt that was a game with intensity, with two teams going for it, battles all over the pitch, and we responded well," Wenger said. "I like when the team shows that kind of response. I feel it's a deserved point.

"With a bit more freedom we could have won this game with one or two goals difference, but it was important we didn't lose. You could see that in the last 20 minutes."

The result still leaves Arsenal in the bottom half of the Premier League table with seven points from five games. But it was Arsenal's first point at Stamford Bridge since 2011, and Ramsey also said the team proved a point to some of their doubters.

"We needed that against a top team. In recent years we have struggled here but we are able to compete against the best," Ramsey told Sky Sports. "We showed that we can create chances and on another day we my have nicked that. We needed that after the Liverpool game. We played in their half, higher up. We wanted to get a result and we got one.

"We are in a good place, we just have to build on it."

Arsenal were without the injured Mesut Ozil and Wenger opted to leave Alexis Sanchez on the bench again as the Chile forward regains full match fitness. Danny Welbeck then had to come off with an injury in the second half.

"He has a groin problem," Wenger said. "I don't know how serious it is. It looks a 'good' groin problem -- not an easy one."

Chelsea finished the game with 10 men after David Luiz was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Sead Kolasinac, but Arsenal could not take advantage in the final minutes.

"It looked to me like excessive force," Wenger said about the red card decision. "Kolasinac was not completely on his feet. Even Luiz would accept there was a big distance and he went in too strong."

This was the fourth meeting between these sides since May, after Arsenal won the FA Cup final and Community Shield and Chelsea dominated a preseason friendly in Beijing in July.

Wenger said critics shouldn't be too surprised by Arsenal's performance, given their previous two wins at Wembley.

"People forget we beat Chelsea in the cup final two months ago [sic]," he said. "We've shown that quality many times. When you deliver the kind of performance we had at Liverpool, you have to accept the criticism. You can only respond on the pitch, and we did that today.

"Today was a question: what would happen? With the attitude and determination, it was vital for us to come out with a solid performance. We did that."

Sead Kolasinac looks a good signing and someone who is up for a battle. Exactly the sort of player Arsenal needed.

It helps when we dont have passengers like ozil in team in big games as hes always useless its no coincidence we fared better as a team without him in the side. Still huge improvement needed as we have failed to score all 3 away games this season. Defensively it was alot better.

Completely agree!

We were so much better defensively with Ozil out of the team.

Arsenal have beaten Chelsea the last two times they played with Ozil in the team (FA Cup and Charity Shield)

A draw without Ozil is hardly an 'improvement'

i'm sorry but Sunday was a massive improvement in the league, with or without Ozil.
Surely you understand that?

We were definsively stronger in this game and that's a fact too.
Ozil is a good player and I'm not saying he should be dropped BUT Ozil has to turn up more often in the big games otherwise he's not going to be as much of a loss to us as say Sanchez.
