Arsenal's majority shareholder, Stan Kroenke, has made an offer to buy the whole of the club in a deal that would value the Gunners at £1.8bn.

The American billionaire owns 67% of Arsenal through his company KSE, which says Alisher Usmanov has agreed to sell his 30% stake in the club.

The buy-out announcement was made to the London Stock exchange on Tuesday.

Kroenke believes taking the club private will help the club achieve success.

Arsenal: Shareholder Alisher Usmanov says he accepts rival Stan Kroenke's bid for club

Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov says he will accept rival Stan Kroenke's bid to buy him out for £550m and take full control of the club.

American billionaire Kroenke owns 67% of Arsenal through his company KSE and announced on Tuesday he had made an offer to buy up the rest of the shares.

Usmanov has confirmed he has agreed to part with his 30% stake in the club.

"I have decided to sell my shares in Arsenal, which could be the best football club in the world," he said.

Despite his shareholding, Usmanov is not part of the board or the decision-making at Arsenal.

The metal magnate made a £1bn bid to buy the Emirates outfit in May 2017 but this was rejected by Kroenke.

Kroenke's offer to shareholders values the Gunners at £1.8bn. Acquiring Usmanov's shares for £550m means remaining shareholders would be legally obliged to sell theirs to Kroenke.

The KSE statement to the London Stock Exchange said taking the club private will help to further Arsenal's "strategy and ambitions".

"KSE's ambitions for the club are to see it competing consistently to win the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as the major trophies in the women's senior game and at youth level," it added.

Arsenal have a new manager in charge this season after Unai Emery took over from Arsene Wenger, who had been Gunners boss for 22 years.

In Wenger's final season, Arsenal finished sixth in the Premier League as they missed out on the Champions League but qualified for the group stages of the Europa League.

The Gunners start their Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City on Sunday.

A 'dreadful day' for Arsenal - fans' reaction
While Kroenke says taking sole ownership will benefit the club, the Arsenal Supporters' Trust (AST) called the news "a dreadful day" for the Gunners.

"Stan Kroenke taking the club private will see the end of supporters owning shares in Arsenal and their role upholding custodianship values," said an AST statement.

AST added that by becoming the 100% owner, Kroenke would be able to take "detrimental actions" such as paying "management fees and dividends without any check or balance".

It added: "The AST is also extremely concerned to note that this purchase is being funded by a loan.

"The AST is wholly against this takeover which marks a very sad day for Arsenal football club."

Analysis - what does single ownership mean?
Rob Wilson, football finance expert at Sheffield Hallam University

There are two sides to this and from a fan's point of view you like to have a bit more transparency - when there is more than one person involved you get a broader discussion about what you should do, who you should buy and how much to spend on particular people.

When you have this single ownership, particularly when it will be set up in the United States, it lacks a bit of transparency.

There will be big dividends getting paid out from the football club as a profit maximising entity, but for Arsenal that's not really any different to what they have had for the past 10 or 15 years with Usmanov and back when Farhad Moshiri (former shareholder and Everton co-owner) was involved.

The only thing that concerns me is it's going to be a leveraged buy-out, so he's going to have to borrow to be able to do it. Depending on which side of the fence you're on will determine whether you see that as a positive or a negative thing.

From a purely business point of view, it's not a bad model. It's like you or I buying a house, taking out a mortgage, if you maintain those payments against those loans or however you borrowed then it is not a problem.

While the leverage is there that would have to be paid back, I don't think it will limit the activity Arsenal will be able to undertake in the transfer market as the reality is in order to make that business profitable, you have to be finishing in the top four and going into European competition.

What are the details of the offer?
Kroenke will be raising the capital to take control of the club with £45m of his own money and borrowing £557m, which he says will not be against the club.

"The offer is not being funded by way of any debt finance (bank loans, payment in kind loans or other debt or quasi debt interest bearing obligations) for which the payment of interest on, repayment of, or security for any liability (contingent or otherwise) will depend on the business of Arsenal," said KSE's statement.

In the offer document, each of Arsenal's 62,217 shares are valued at at £29,419.64.

KSE currently has 41,743 of those, with Usmanov holding a stake of 18,695, which would be worth £550m under the offer.

Acquiring Usmanov's shares would move KSE past the 90% threshold at which, under the Companies Act, they would be able to compulsorily purchase the remaining 1,779 shares, which are valued at £52.3m.

Apart from Arsenal, Kroenke's "family portfolio" of assets also include NFL side Los Angeles Rams, the NBA's Denver Nuggets, the NHL outfit Colorado Avalanche, MLS side Colorado Rapids and Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League.

Club is doomed off the pitch with kronke likely to leach all money out of it for US franchises.

Hopefully on the pitch and new ideas and a few new players means team could maybe win a trophy and push for a top 4 place this season.

Arsenal v Man City today, should be a good game!

Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has suffered a fracture in his left leg and will be out for six to eight weeks.

Maitland-Niles was injured during the first half of the Gunners' opening day defeat against Manchester City.

The 20-year-old has sustained "a small fracture to his left fibula".

He joins Carl Jenkinson (ankle), Sead Kolasinac (knee) and Laurent Koscielny (Achilles) on the sidelines ahead of Arsenal's trip to Chelsea on Saturday.

Wenger Out, Wenger Out

oh wait...

Sorry couldn't resist.
We're still short of a couple of world class players short. Ideally in defence and another top midfielder.
In previous years we could have achieved top four with the squad we have but to be honest Liverpool and Man City scare the hell out of me... Man U have the players and Chelsea will always be up there fitihing for top four. Now you also have Spurs and even though their squad is small their first choice eleven can beat any of the top teams on their day.

It's going to be a hard season for us but this was expected. We are in a transition period and so we have less expectations. Just enjoy the season regardless of results.

The only major concern is what Amjid Javed highlighted. If Kroenke doesn't pull his wallet out then we will be doomed to mid table even in the next five seasons.

Arsenal moved to within one point of the Premier League top four and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 17 games with victory at Bournemouth.

The Gunners took the lead thanks to a spectacular own goal from Cherries midfielder Jefferson Lerma, who volleyed Sead Kolasinac's cross past Asmir Begovic from 15 yards.

Joshua King, making his comeback after four games out with an ankle injury, finished off a swift counter-attacking move to bring the hosts level seconds before half-time.

But Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored what proved to be the winner after the break when he converted Kolasinac's cross for his eighth Premier League goal of the season.

After beginning the weekend in sixth, Bournemouth drop two places to sixth and have now lost their past three league matches.

The Cherries were aggrieved early on when David Brooks had a goal ruled out for offside, with replays suggesting he was marginally behind Shkodran Mustafi when the ball was played.

But that proved to be the catalyst for a confident display from Arsenal, who secured their fourth Premier League away win of the campaign - equalling their tally for the whole of last season.

Aubameyang the hero again
A run of four draws in their past five games had stemmed some of the excitement generated during the early weeks of manager Unai Emery's reign.

But this impressive performance, against a side who began the day just four points behind the Gunners, will raise hopes among supporters that their side can sustain a top-four challenge this season.

With Alexandre Lacazette ruled out with a groin injury, Emery switched formation to a back three, with Aubameyang the lone striker.

The Gabon international responded by netting again and moving to the top of the Premier League scoring charts alongside Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

To further highlight his importance to the side, Aubameyang has now been directly involved in 23 goals in 26 league appearances since joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January.

The 29-year-old was ably supported on this occasion by Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with 14 of the Gunners' 20 shots at goal coming from those three players.

The formation change also allowed Kolasinac to be a constant threat down the Arsenal left, with the Bosnia-Herzegovina international having a hand in both goals.

Great win today by arsenal, wonderful game. Spurs being spurs once again!

One of the best bits was when “the spurs went marching off”,
about ten minutes from the end

Spurs got put in their place, even with 12 players they couldnt beat us. COYG.

People who said that Wenger will be missed after he leaves should be questioned now.

He had lost the plot completely and and a tactical manager with fire in his belly was exactly what the club needed.

I have to admit I did not think of Emery highly, and was actually looking forward to see what Arteta was going to do in his first job as manager. However, Gazidis made the right judgement.

Emery is getting rid of Arsenal’s soft underbelly. A couple of more windows and a few big name signings, and he can seriously push for the league title.

Amid all the positivity, I am deeply saddened by the Ramsey situation. There are quite a few players who can be disposed off to give him a raise. He is an integral part of the club and will be greatly missed.

Emrey is doing a great job which such a limited squad. He makes the right changes and is willing to try new formations. Also wants to develop youth and play attacking football. This is the type of manager we should always be looking for.

We have issues in defences and will need a new CB and LB. Once Emrey has his team, we will be challenging. I will admit I wasn't that happy with his appointment but he has proved me wrong and hope he gets us into the top 4 and we can kick on next year.

I said he might struggle to adopt the pace of English game, which had been the case for many quality players coming from Italy - Veron, Aqualini, De Canio, Casaraghi, Gabiandini, .... latest is Chelsea's Jorginho & Emerson. But, indeed he has adopted well in Emrey's system; probably a Spanish manager helped him to settle better.

Yes but I told you why he wouldn't struggle. Good sprinting speed , good at intercepting and tackling, and very good technically. Was never likely to struggle and it was clear to see how good a player he was.

A man has been charged after a banana skin was thrown onto the pitch during Sunday's ill-tempered derby with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

Three other men have also been charged following incidents at the match.

The banana skin was thrown from the away end when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for the Gunners, who won 4-2.

A Spurs spokesman said the fan who threw it would be banned, with anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out calling for a life ban.

"We condemn this action and welcome the investigation," Kick It Out said.

"Our latest reporting figures show incidents of racism are on the rise and the banana throwing at the north London derby should be seen in that context."

Police say three men have been bailed to appear at Highbury Corner Court on Tuesday, 18 December, while the other has been bailed to attend the same court on Monday, 31 December.

Six arrests were made in relation to the match, with two other men released with no further action.

Uefa president calls incident 'a disaster'
"Behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and the supporter in question will be issued with a ban," a Tottenham spokesman said of the banana-skin incident.

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: "We have to do more and campaign more against it, we fine clubs but it is not enough.

"We need to educate the young people but when you see an event like that it is a disaster if you ask me."

A Premier League statement said: "Discriminatory behaviour has no place in football or society as a whole.

"The police and the Football Association are rightly investigating and the Premier League will support whatever action they deem necessary."

BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright spent seven years at Arsenal, scoring 185 goals in 288 appearances for the club.

"I've played against Spurs and I've taken a lot of abuse but never ever has it been racial," the former striker told Match of the Day 2.

"Now Spurs have to deal with this because some idiot has done that. It's not only embarrassed Spurs but it has embarrassed the Premier League because it has gone around the world.

"It's really unfortunate to see."

There were also unsavoury scenes on the pitch during the match, with the two sets of players having to be separated following Eric Dier's equaliser for Tottenham in the first half.

Dier celebrated by putting his finger to his lips, but Arsenal substitute Stephan Lichtsteiner reacted angrily to the gesture, prompting a melee.

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino ran down the touchline to help calm matters and Dier said afterwards: "I had my back to it all so I'm not too sure what happened.

"But this is football. It's a derby. Football is all about emotion and I don't understand how I can get a yellow card in that situation.

"It baffles me because if you take the emotion out of football you're going to destroy the game for everyone."

Arsenal centre-back Rob Holding has been ruled out for up to nine months after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury in the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Holding had made 16 appearances for Unai Emery's side this season.

"Rob will undergo surgery in the coming days and rehabilitation is expected to take between six to nine months," said an Arsenal statement.

"Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible."

"Gutted to get injured during a strong period for the team!" said Holding, who also added his thanks to "all the fans, players and staff members for the support during the past couple of days".

Holding underwent tests in London following the collision with United's Marcus Rashford nine minutes before half-time.

The injury is the latest defensive setback for Arsenal, who remain without centre-back Laurent Koscielny and left-back Nacho Monreal.

The Gunners, who are unbeaten in their last 20 matches in all competitions, dropped down to fifth in the table after their 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.

They host Huddersfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal to talk to players over nitrous oxide inhalation allegations

Arsenal players will be "spoken to" by club chiefs after images emerged allegedly showing four members of the first team inhaling nitrous oxide.

CCTV footage obtained by the Sun shows Alexandre Lacazette, Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all inhaling from balloons allegedly containing the substance.

The players were at a private party at a London club in August.

Nitrous oxide is also known as laughing gas or 'hippy crack'.

An Arsenal spokesperson told the BBC players would be "spoken to and reminded of their responsibilities".

Nitrous oxide slows down the brain and the body's responses, giving users a feeling of euphoria and can cause hallucinations, but can also lead to headaches, dizziness and paranoia.

However, large doses can starve the body and brain of oxygen, according to government drug advice service Frank.

While it is not illegal to possess the drug, it is illegal to give away or sell.

Laurent Koscielny said he "started a new chapter" in his career after returning from injury in Arsenal's easy Europa League win over Qarabag.

Captain Koscielny, 33, had not played since rupturing his Achilles in May's semi-final defeat by Atletico Madrid.

He had little to do against a weak side the Gunners had no difficulty in beating 1-0, having already qualified for the last 32 as Group E winners.

"It was very important for me today," the French centre-back said.

"It is difficult being out injured. It was the first big injury of my career and I had to take a long time out, but you learn a lot about yourself and I am very happy. I am focused mentally, and I can smile and enjoy the rest of the season."

Alexandre Lacazette scored the only goal of a tame match with a slick 16th-minute winner from Mesut Ozil's pass.

Victory over Azerbaijan's champions extends Arsenal's unbeaten run into a 22nd match. It is their longest run without defeat since a 28-game stretch that ended in November 2007.

Koscielny made one tackle and two clearances, also finishing with a 100% pass success rate when he was replaced in the 72nd minute.

"It was very important to keep our unbeaten run going for the confidence and now we start a big challenge ahead of Christmas. Today we played with many young players and they showed lots of determination and focus on their jobs," he told BT Sport.

"For me it is important to enjoy the game with my team-mates, and it didn't matter about the result, it was just about being on the pitch with my friends.

"It was my last day of rehab, so now I start a new chapter in my career."

'Maybe he will play on Sunday'
Koscielny had already featured for Arsenal's under-23s on his road to recovery, in a 2-1 defeat by Portsmouth in the Checktrade Trophy on 4 December.

Arsenal next play in the Premier League away to Southampton in a 13:30 GMT kick-off on Sunday.

Gunners boss Emery said Koscielny would "maybe" feature.

"Today was another step for him," he said.

"We need to know tomorrow and Saturday how he is going to feel after this match. When a player comes back after a big injury, a very big injury, it can give the player different moments.

"I think for Koscielny it's good that he's recovered and I also think he recovered in a good time. Every supporter of Arsenal is happy, and also the player."

Charlie Austin's 85th-minute header clinched victory for Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl on his home debut and ended Arsenal's 22-match unbeaten run.

In a see-sawing encounter, the hosts took the lead after 20 minutes as Danny Ings muscled home a header from Matt Targett's cross.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan nodded in shortly after for Arsenal, following good work by Alex Iwobi and Nacho Monreal - but Ings struck again just before the break.

Nathan Redmond's floated cross was precise and Ings cushioned a looping effort into the far corner.

Arsenal turned the screw in the second half and restored parity as Mkhitaryan's shot deflected in off Jannik Vestergaard.

The Gunners had their chances with Alex McCarthy impressing in the home goal, but Southampton were dangerous on the break and Shane Long had a goal rightly ruled offside before providing a teasing cross for Austin's winner.

The victory takes Southampton out of the relegation zone and up to 17th.

At the final whistle, Austrian Hasenhuttl - nicknamed the 'Klopp of the Alps' during his spell at previous club RB Leipzig - celebrated on the pitch with his players before whipping up more decibels from the home support.

With rivals Chelsea winning away at Brighton, Arsenal are now three points adrift of the top four.

Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin will be out for "some weeks" after he came off injured in the Gunners' 3-2 defeat by Southampton on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Spain international was substituted at half-time at St Mary's with a calf injury.

Charlie Austin scored a 85th-minute winner as Southampton ended Arsenal's 22-match unbeaten run.

"Bellerin has a small injury - he is going to be some weeks off I think," said Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a broken foot.

Mkhitaryan, 29, was replaced at half-time during the Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham and missed the Premier League win over Burnley.

The Gunners say the Armenia international has a "fractured metatarsal in his right foot".

Mkhitaryan has scored four goals and provided three assists for the Emirates Stadium side this season.

He joins an Arsenal injury list which also includes striker Danny Welbeck and defender Rob Holding, neither of whom are expected to return until the 2019-20 campaign.

Poundshop Eriksen. He might not do much over 70 minutes but Ozil will always create an opening.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been charged by the Football Association for kicking a bottle which hit a Brighton fan towards the end of Wednesday's 1-1 draw.

The FA said it amounts to improper conduct and Emery has until 18:00 GMT on 2 January to respond to the charge.

The Spaniard apologised for the incident, which was not included in the officials' match report.

"I said to them I'm sorry," Emery said after the game.

"It wasn't hard but it touched one supporter."

Emery went to speak to the home supporter immediately after the incident and again at full-time.

Speaking in his news conference on Thursday, Emery said he hoped the apology would be the end of the matter.

"I kicked the bottle in frustration but not at the supporters, not with this intention. It's circumstances. I apologised. I hope it's the end of the matter, yes," he said.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had given the Gunners a seventh-minute lead in the Premier League match at the Amex Stadium and the visitors dominated much of the first half.

But a mistake by right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner allowed Jurgen Locadia to equalise for Brighton in the 35th minute.

Emery was disappointed by his team's second-half display and took his frustration out on the water bottle on the touchline.

After apologising to the Seagulls fan, Emery appeared to explain his actions to the fourth official.

The officials had not included the incident in the match report as they were happy with the way it had been handled.

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was given a one-match ban after being sent off for kicking a water bottle down the touchline during his side's Premier League game against West Ham in 2016.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been fined £8,000 by the Football Association for kicking a bottle which hit a Brighton fan during last week's Premier League match between the sides.

The FA charged Emery with improper conduct following the incident near the end of the 1-1 draw on 26 December.

The Spaniard apologised for the incident, which was not included in the officials' match report.

"I said to them I'm sorry," Emery said after the game.

An FA spokesperson said Emery had "accepted the standard penalty".

Petr Cech: Arsenal keeper to retire at the end of the season

Arsenal keeper Petr Cech is to retire at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old joined Arsenal in June 2015 from the club's London rivals Chelsea, where he spent 11 years.

"Having played 15 years in the Premier League and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve," said the ex-Czech Republic international.

"I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season."

Cech's career was in doubt in October 2006 when he required surgery for a skull fracture after a collision with Reading's Stephen Hunt.

The keeper was out for three months and has since worn a protective headguard during games.

He added: "This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire.

"I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch."

'A champion on and off the pitch'

Cech arrived in England when he was signed by Chelsea from French club Rennes in July 2004.

He went on to win 13 trophies with the Stamford Bridge club, including one Champions League and four Premier League titles.

He also set a club record of 228 clean sheets in all competitions, beating the previous mark of 208 set by former England international Peter Bonetti between 1960 and 1979.

Cech eventually lost his place to Belgian Thibaut Courtois before joining Arsenal and helping the Gunners win the FA Cup in 2017.

"For your consummate professionalism, for being the perfect role model, for the 50 clean sheets, for your honesty, your integrity and for your inspiring work with the Arsenal Foundation, we want to say - thank you Petr Cech," tweeted Arsenal.

In a statement on their website, the club added: "Petr recently informed us of his decision. Like all football fans, we are sad about this, but completely understand and support Petr."

"A champion on and off the pitch," said a message from Chelsea. "Enjoy your retirement."

Cech started this season as Arsenal first choice keeper but has since lost his place to Bernd Leno.

The Czech has made 12 appearances for the Gunners this season, with his most recent coming when he started in the FA Cup third round win at Blackpool.

Cech has also played in Europa League and League Cup games, but has not played in the league since going off injured in the win over Watford on 29 September.

Arsenal, who are fifth in the Premier League, host fourth-placed Chelsea in the top flight on Saturday.

Cech's main chances of adding to his trophy haul appear to be in the FA Cup and Europa League.

The Gunners play Manchester United in the next round of the FA Cup, with the competition's final on 19 May - the day before Cech turns 37.

Arsenal play BATE Borisov in the next round of the Europa League, with the final of that competition on 29 May.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery says the knee injury defender Hector Bellerin suffered during the win over Chelsea is "not positive on first impression".

The Spain right-back, 23, was carried off on a stretcher in the 72nd minute at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

"The prediction is it could be an important injury," said Emery after his side's 2-0 Premier League victory.

It was Bellerin's first start for five weeks after he picked up a calf injury against Southampton in December.

He provided the assist for Alexandre Lacazette's opening goal against the Blues, and he made the joint-most interceptions and blocks of any Gunners player alongside Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal remain fifth in the Premier League table but the victory moved them three points behind Chelsea, who are fourth.

Arsenal have made an approach to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Gunners want to seal a loan move for the 29-year-old for the rest of the season, with an option to buy him in the summer for £35m.

Croatia international Perisic signed a new five-year contract in September 2017 to extend his stay with the Italian club until 2022.

However, it is understood he is open to leaving the San Siro after joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.

Perisic has scored 34 goals in 142 appearances for Inter, finding the net three times in 25 games this term. He previously played for Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge.

Arsenal's original plan for the January transfer window was to secure loan deals for a versatile midfielder and a winger.

For the midfield role, they remain keen on Barcelona's Denis Suarez and Christopher Nkunku of Paris St-German.

They see Perisic as a leading option to add width to Unai Emery's squad.

It is understood Inter would be prepared to do business for between £35m-£40m.

The club rejected a similar-sized offer from Manchester United in 2017 and demanded £50m.

United refused and Perisic subsequently signed a new contract with the Italian club.

However, the player's performances have dipped since starring in Croatia's run to the World Cup final, leaving Inter to conclude they may be better cashing in.

It is unclear whether injuries to Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny and Sokratis Papadopoulos will see them attempt to bring in defensive reinforcements.

However, the problem that forced Sokratis off the field in Friday's FA Cup defeat by Manchester United in not thought to be serious.

With the money at our disposal, it would appear that the best we can hope for is a place in top 6.

With the money at our disposal, it would appear that the best we can hope for is a place in top 6.

Trust me if we aim for 5 or 6, we’ll end up lower.
Maybe not this season but give it time and we’ll become a mid table team.

The owners have to spend at least £150m if not more and here we’re looking for loan deals...

Look at Manu, they spent £200m and had the wrong manager..
Jose has become toxic at Manu but the moment he was sacked those players started to perform.

If we don’t invest in top players we’re just going backwards.

In the FA Cup match Man Utd dominated them like their daddy! Arsenal are well behind Liverpool and Man City.

Years of chronic underinvestment is costing Arsenal dearly. The way they renegotiate contracts, find transfer targets etc is also rather strange. Barring a Leicester city type miracle run - or a really wealthy owner taking them over - can’t see Arsenal winning the title anytime soon.

This is the hard truth..

£350k per week to Ozil was also a ridiculous decision.
No one is going to pay those wages so now he’s continuously being benched or left out of the squad altogether in the hope that he lowers his demands... I can’t see that happening either. Ozil will run down his contract because he loves living in London and I doubt he has much ambition left in the game especially now that he’s retired from Internationals...

Arsenal's Sokratis Papastathopoulos will be out until the end of February with an ankle injury.

The Greece defender, 30, was injured during Arsenal's FA Cup fourth-round defeat by Manchester United on Friday, as was team-mate Lauernt Koscielny.

It was feared initially that Koscielny, 33, had broken his jaw; the club said he had suffered bruising, and was "being reviewed on a daily basis".

He returned in December after seven months out with an Achilles injury.

The Gunners are without full-back Hector Bellerin, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Our current spending issue isn't anything to do with owner. We are close to going over wage bill so we can't increase it. Next hear we have new deals so we will have money to spend. Also players will come off the wage bill and we have loads of money in cash reserve.

Don't believe everything the media tell you.

Arsenal have signed Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez on loan until the end of the season.

The La Liga champions have extended the 25-year-old's contract until June 2021, although the Gunners have a purchase option in the summer.

Spaniard Suarez has played 71 times for Barcelona since joining in 2013 but has only featured eight times this season.

He previously played under Gunners manager Unai Emery at Sevilla, when he was at the club on loan.

Suarez spent two seasons at Manchester City as a teenager but only made two first-team appearances before being sold to Barcelona as a 19-year-old.

The Gunners remain in negotiations to sign a wide player - Inter Milan's Croatia international Ivan Perisic is among the options being pursued, with Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco of Chinese club Dalian Yifang also linked.

Despite a number of injuries, Arsenal are not likely to bolster their defence.

Captain Laurent Koscielny could be in contention to return in time for Sunday's trip to Manchester City, while Sokratis Papastathopoulos - who like Koscielny was forced off during the FA Cup defeat by Manchester United on Friday - is not expected to be out for long.

Didn't know you were an Arsenal fan as well :)

Needless to say but things look bleak for our side

No they don't look great at the moment. But in the summer I'm sure players will come in.

I don't think we'll finish top 4 even though we've moved up to 4th after Bournemouth mauling of Chelsea. Best chance for UCL qualification will be to win Europa I reckon.

We can finish 4th. United and Spurs will drop points.

I don't see it happening tbh, Man U are different team under Solskjaer. Spurs have the second best manager in the league, so I don't think Pochettino will let his team slip. But I hope you're right. We will finish above Chelsea however.

Big game on Sunday. We'll most likely lose to City and drop down to 6th by this weekend.

Solsjaker is no genius tactican. Also he is playing the same 11 every game , yesterday when he started with Mata, lingard and Martial didn't play they dropped points. They also have Jones,Valencia ,Shaw, and Young in defence LOL.

Spurs will drop points because they had so many players at the WC and they play at such intensity it will come back on them.

We may not finish top 4 but their is a chance.

I'm glad Man U's winning streak under Solksjaer came to end but even on their worst days like on Tuesday they came back to get a draw. Those players are giving everything till the last minute under him as coach.

I do think Spurs would have lost more points in the first half of the season if the post-WC fatigue had affect them. What hurts is after beating them at the Emirates (couple a months back) we were like level on points but they have somehow stormed ahead of us because we have given points away to the likes of West Ham and etc.

We need a better defence and goal keeper to finish top 4 but who knows. I think winning Europa is a far easier proposition in regards to UCL entry.

This was a good gameround for Arsenal. United and Chelsea dropped points and Arsenal won, and are back where they belong 4th. Surprised to not see many memes on social media about that. However I don't expect them to be there at the end of this week as I can't see them getting anything from City away.

they simply dont have the money to be in the top 3 - probably need a big Arab buyer to get them moving

Yes that won't last forever. They will drop points eventually.

I hope we sign some good defenders in the summers and stay away from 29/30 year old players.

Awful for most of the match against Man City.

There needs to be a clear out of the dead wood that Wenger brought in.

Arsenal stayed a point ahead of Manchester United in the race for the Champions League by thrashing Bournemouth to earn their eighth straight Premier League home win.

Mesut Ozil, recalled to the side, fired the Gunners ahead before he set up Henrikh Mkhitaryan to sweep in.

A defensive mistake allowed Bournemouth to pull a goal back through Lys Mousset's simple finish, but any hopes the visitors had of ending a miserable run of eight successive league defeats on the road quickly ended after the break.

Skipper Laurent Koscielny blasted in off the post following a set-piece, then Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang added another when he was given the space to race clear and calmly slot in.

Substitute Alexandre Lacazette sealed victory with a sublime free-kick as Arsenal warmed up for Saturday's north London derby in style.

Spurs' defeat at Chelsea leaves Arsenal now four points behind their arch-rivals, with a buoyant Emirates Stadium warning "Tottenham Hotspur, we're coming for you!" as they celebrated a rampant win.

Bournemouth's visit was seen as a must-win by Gunners fans with, what would should be, trickier tests to come against Spurs and Manchester United in their next two Premier League games.

These matches - plus the two-legged Europa League last-16 tie against Rennes - look set to define manager Unai Emery's first season at the helm.

A healthy points haul against Spurs and United would consolidate the Gunners' place in the top four as they head into the final stretch.

But failure to beat either would leave the race for the Champions League - which Arsenal have missed out on for the past two campaigns - wide open.

Ozil, 30, has become somewhat of a peripheral figure at the Emirates under Unai Emery this season, making just 14 league starts and often left out of the side because of concerns from the Spaniard about his form or fitness.

The German was restored to the starting line-up against Bate Borisov in the Europa League last week and made a decent impression when he came on as a substitute against Southampton on Sunday.

That led to Emery giving another opportunity to the club's star name, and highest-paid player, against Bournemouth - and Ozil repaid him with a classy performance in what was only his second start of the year in the Premier League.

The former Real Madrid midfielder lined up in a central attacking midfield role, alongside Mkhitaryan and behind Aubameyang, linking up to both players with good effect.

Arsenal made the perfect start when Ozil opened the scoring after four minutes with a lofted left-foot finish which Bournemouth keeper Artur Boruc could not prevent looping in.

And then he showed outstanding awareness to unselfishly square for the in-form Mkhitaryan, who pounced on a sloppy cross-field pass from Bournemouth full-back Adam Smith before playing a one-two with Ozil, to slot in.

Ozil continued to make Arsenal tick throughout and was unlucky not to add another goal himself - when Arsenal led 3-1 - with a low side-footed effort which cannoned back off the post.

"Mesut helped us with his quality and work," Emery said afterwards. "All the players should be proud tonight and it is the same for Mesut."

Ozil's goal was his first since netting in a sublime individual performance against Leicester back in October, before he teed up Mkhitaryan for a first assist in nine league matches.

Whether that was enough to maintain his place against Spurs remains to be seen, but he certainly could not have done more to impress Emery - albeit against a poor Bournemouth side.

Arsenal manager Unai Emery said midfielder Mesut Ozil is "playing like we want" after producing a man-of-the-match performance against Newcastle.

Ozil, at times out of favour since the Spaniard took over this season, helped the Gunners to a 2-0 win - their 10th consecutive home league victory.

"I like how every player is playing and Mesut with his quality is helping us and giving us his work," he said.

"Also individual moments and skills, he has the capacity to help us."

Prior to Monday's win, Ozil had only started three league games since Boxing Day. In February, Emery stated that the German had to be "consistent in training and in matches, without being injured or sick". He later added that the midfielder would continue to be rotated.

However, following the display against the Magpies which saw him win the official man-of-the-match award ahead of Aaron Ramsey, Emery said: "Mesut is playing like we want, with the system and tactically. He is working a lot and after that work he is also giving us his quality."

Arsenal's win saw them go above north London rivals Tottenham and Manchester United to take third spot in the Premier League.

Emery said his side face a tough task to hold on to that position until the end of the season.

"Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester United will win a lot of matches. It's going to be difficult and the next game at Everton is very difficult," he said.

"We need to continue being consistent, continue creating a big mentality, learning when we need to struggle and when we need to push together."

Aaron Ramsey scored the opener before going off in the 67th minute with what Emery described as a "small injury". French striker Alexandre Lacazette sealed victory with a deft chip seven minutes from time.

Asked if Juventus-bound Ramsey's display proved what he could have achieved if he stayed, Emery added: "Aaron is happy, he's helping us. He's playing with big performances. We need to create a big atmosphere. He knows we are in the most important moment in the season and we need every player."

This away form is a mental thing to me. I think we have the ability to win the remaining away games but it's all about mentality. I hope we play a back 4 tomorrow. Back 3 doesn't seem to work away from home. Also Emery needs to be more adventurous away from home. We can't defend so why play cautiously?

Oof.

I really don't understand Arsenal. One day they'll play like prime Barcelona and the other they look like a struggling championship team downing tools. It's honestly bizarre. The difference between away and home form is still a massive issue from the Wenger era and I assume the only reason for it is a bottle-job mentality that Arsenal just can't get rid of till a new squad arises.

If Arsenal make it to the top 4 and the final of Europa, it will be an excellent first season for Emery, who will need 2-3 windows to change the rotten mentality of the club and the damage that has been under the last 12-13 years of Wenger’s reign.

However, I don’t think Emery is the man to take Arsenal back to the top. It will require an elite manager + a blank checkbook, which doesn’t seem a realistic proposition.

City and Liverpool will remain the top dogs in England for a number of seasons with Chelsea, Arsenal and United fighting for the number 3 position.

That's true, UCL qualification by any means possible would be a successful for Arsenal at this point. It's highly likely Arsenal will get to the final as they made quick work of Napoli who were very tough to play against even for the likes of PSG and Liverpool in the UCL. The only way I see it not happening is if Arsenal see a clear opening for top 4 and they decide to rotate and underestimate Valencia.

Unless Kronke leaves, there's no chance Arsenal get a blank chequebook. I think Arsenal could do very well under Emery but I doubt it will see league title or champions league success due to the lack of funds.
Chelsea have the issue of a transfer ban and the worry of top players leaving, while United need a full rebuild and will likely not have any UCL football next season to attract players in the transfer window.

I agree on the fact City and Liverpool look likely to fight it out for domestic success unfortunately. They just have the best base for a squad and the most funds available.

Alexandre Lacazette scored twice as Arsenal came from behind at Emirates Stadium to win the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Valencia.

Mouctar Diakhaby's header put Valencia in front before Lacazette slotted in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's pass.

The Frenchman nodded in Granit Xhaka's cross seven minutes later to make it 2-1 before half-time.

And Aubameyang's late volley ensured Arsenal take a two-goal lead to Spain.

Lacazette should have scored a hat-trick - he fluffed a header from six yards out in the second half and was later denied by goalkeeper Neto on two occasions.

But Arsenal will travel to Valencia for the second leg next Thursday, hoping to avoid a second successive semi-final defeat after they were knocked out by eventual winners Atletico Madrid last year.

Arsenal started sloppily in London and Ezequiel Garay's miss from a few yards out was an early warning.

They looked rattled, and things looked bleak for the Gunners when Rodrigo was allowed to head the ball back across goal to set up Diakhaby for the opener.

A loose header from Ainsley Maitland-Niles was almost pounced upon by Goncalo Guedes immediately afterwards but Lacazette's swift equaliser - which came against the run of play - helped settle the nerves.

He started the move himself, providing the through ball for Aubameyang before the Gabonese striker cut it back into the middle and Lacazette fired into an empty net.

The Frenchman was clinical again eight minutes later - powerfully nodding in Xhaka's curling cross at the back post - before Aubameyang's volley bounced off the turf and over the bar.

Valencia still caused Arsenal problems though. Rodrigo and Guedes were pests in attack and Petr Cech was called into action to deny Kevin Gameiro from close range in the second half.

Arsenal were wasteful, too - Lacazette missing two glorious chances before Aubameyang eventually made it 3-1 with a well-timed volley at the back post.

Arsenal's hopes of securing Champions League football next season have been lifted by this victory.

Three successive defeats have left Arsenal fifth in the Premier League - one place below Champions League qualification and two points below Chelsea with two games remaining.

Arsenal can of course reach the Champions League by winning this competition, but Chelsea could stand in their way again if they make it to final in Baku.

Manager Unai Emery has vast experience in the Europa League, having won it three years in a row with Sevilla in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and he will relish an opportunity to win silverware in his first season in England.

Victory in Spain will also see Arsenal through to their first European final since 2006.

'If we can go to Baku it will be special'

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette: "We know it's going to be hard [in Valencia] so of course, getting as many goals as we could is better for us.

"I had two more chances where I could have done better but thankfully Aubameyang scored the third one. If we can go to Baku [for the Europa League final] it will be special."

Arsenal manager Unai Emery on BT Sport: "In the first leg we wanted to get a good result, knowing that it would be difficult. We took our moments and the goals in the first half gave us confidence.

"We wanted to win and not to concede a second goal, but we also had to play. The third goal came at the end and for us it was important, but [the tie] continues to be 50-50."

Forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: "I hope that third goal will be important. We started a bit nervous because we lost the last three games, I think that's normal. We are human, but after that we had a good reaction.

"It's our target to reach the final and win this trophy. We will give everything to qualify for the Champions League."

That was embarrassing for Arsenal. Chelsea were simply to strong for a poor Arsenal side. In the last few minutes Arsenal should have scored at least two goals making it a very interesting climax. Overall Chelsea deserved to win no doubt about it. Arsenal need much more then the reported £70 million to make them title contenders.

Complete meltdown. Ozil must leave - Arsenal fans can live in denial and continue to make excuses, but he has been a flop. Plain and simple.

Absolutely no spine to show up in big games and has zero influence and authority on the pitch except for the odd cute assist at home against a weak team.

No wonder Madrid booted him out, and there isn’t a single big club that will have them in their team.

Koscielny is finished, Mustafi is rubbish, Papa is a reckless caveman, Xhaka is not good enough, Iwobi is an okay squad player but nowhere near good enough to be a starter and same goes for Maitland-Niles.

Aubameyang and Lacazette have carried Arsenal this season, but both are very limited players and not good enough to play for Europe’s elite.

Arsenal is finished as a top club. Slowly and gradually, it will lose its appeal and it is happening already. Only a takeover by some billionaire daddy can save this shambles of a football club.

I am done with this team as long as they don’t have new owners who can cull the mediocrity that has seeped into the club by signing players and hiring managers with elite mentality.

Arsenal fans can talk about tradition and heritage and all that crap as much as they want, but only a takeover can rescue this sinking ship.

Arsenal have everything to be an elite club - it has the name, the fan base, the stadium, the history, the city - it has everything, and the only thing it lacks is money.

Modern football is all about money. It is a bitter truth that this club must make peace with it. If Arsenal doesn’t move on with the game, it is only a matter of time before it is reduced to a top 10/12 team.

I said this before and i’ll Say it again.
The biggest problem for Arsenal FC is the owner, Kroenke.
Until there is a change of ownership the club will go another twenty years without winning anything substantial...

Our squad needs massive investment.

Couldn't agree more. Last night was comfortably the worst display by an English side in a cup final. A lot of our fans had their heads in the clouds after Emery's appointment, but I knew he was another Wenger in the making, when you consider his chokes at PSG (against Barca being the most prominent) and his tactical blunders since then. In La Liga his record against the top Spainish clubs away from home leaves a lot to be desired.

How Emery has managed to bottle the end of this season is very difficult to comprehend. Along with this loss, we missed out on a top 4 spot because of the last two home defeats in the PL. He has a lot to answer for with all the tactical blunders he's made, especially of late. I appreciate he hasn't been given much money, but you also need to acquire smartly. The signings he's made are just awful and if you can't get your team selection right, you don't deserve any better.

Arsenal had their chance to pounce on Klopp, whilst they were still a Champions League side along with Guardiola, who once mentioned said something along the lines of "If there was a team I would like to manage in the Premier League, it would be Arsenal".

It doesn't matter how well you can attack if your defence is utterly inept as evident of Liverpool's progress from last year to this season in the league, courtesy of signing Virgil Van Dijk. In the 17/18 season, Liverpool's attack was far superior to Manchester United, but Mourinho ensured his side finished well above them in second because of his tactical nous with how he set up his defence.

By no means do I want to see Arsenal adopt "park-the-bus" style of football, but from the limited managerial options available last summer, we should have brought in Carlo Ancelotti instead. He would strengthened this defence and I am a great believer in building from the back. After all the foundation of a good team is with a competent back-line.

I agree our status as a big football club is fading away thick and fast and the takeover of Newcastle from a super-rich Arab isn't going to do us any favours. The biggest problem with Arsenal is Kroenke and like with many other American owners, he isn't keen on investing in new players.

Never did I think after the invincibles, I would see the day this team would go on a 3 season run without UCL football.

Even if Arsenal give Emery a £100m+ budget to spend on new players, we don't have the pulling power to attract established top players.

We saw a boycott from fans in the second half of last season in response to Wenger's failings. Mark my words the same is going to happen this season, as I don't expect us to compete for the top 4.

All the top mangers are available now. Aligeri is an elite manager who is now available bu Arsenal will stick to Emery for the next 5 years instead. Emery is organised but clearly just a younger replacement to Wenger.

Arsenal have not addressed the same old issues such as choking when it really matters. Surrendering the 4th position spot with such an easy run in is clear signs that the manager and the side is not good enough. They are mentally so weak that it is embarresing. Chelsea were the club in turmoil running into yesterday's game. Half of their squad is leaving, the manager throwing tantrums and the director meeting potential new managers....yet Arsenal were second best to everything last night. Abysmal!

No top manager will come to Arsenal now unless he gets a blank checkbook. Allegri is not a fool to work with a £50m budget at a sinking ship when he can get a shot at Chelsea, Man United, Bayern, PSG etc. at some point in the future.

Wilfried Zaha wants to leave Crystal Palace with Arsenal set to make bid

Wilfried Zaha wants to leave Crystal Palace and Arsenal are expected to make an offer for the forward, Sky Sports News understands.

It is understood the 26-year-old wants to stay in London and play European football.

Zaha's boyhood club Arsenal are expected to make an offer after representatives held initial talks, sounding out the possibility of doing a deal.

Signing for Arsenal would be Zaha's dream move.

However, Palace, who are set to lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United for £50m, do not want to sell Zaha and value him at £80m.

If a deal is completed and Zaha is sold, United have a 25 per cent sell on clause after he rejoined Palace from the Old Trafford side in 2015.

"I have to experience the Champions League. I just need the opportunity, that's it. And I'll do the rest," he told the Daily Mail. "I'm too ambitious. And not ambitious just to play for a top club, but to win things at club level and with the Ivory Coast.

"For me to be better, to achieve what I know I am capable of, I have to aim to play at the very highest level, to win trophies. I'm blessed to have come this far in my playing career. But I feel like there is so much more I have to offer."

Zaha scored 10 goals in an impressive 2018-19 Premier League campaign.

Edu named as Arsenal's technical director

Edu is joining us from the Brazilian Football Confederation as our first technical director.

The former Gunner - a member of the Invincibles - comes to us straight after helping Brazil win their first Copa America in 12 years. He will be on the flight to the United States as our pre-season tour gets underway on Thursday.

In his role as technical director, Edu will coordinate the work of our first-team coaching group, the academy and player scouting and recruitment in order to oversee the constant building up and efficient strengthening of our squad.

Head of football Raul Sanllehi said: “We’re very excited that Edu is joining the team. He has great experience and technical football knowledge and most importantly is a true Arsenal man. He understands the club and what we stand for to our millions of fans around the world.

“His arrival is the final and very important part of the jigsaw in our development of a new football infrastructure to take us forward. He will be working closely with Unai Emery and the first-team coaches, and will play a relevant role leading our football vision and ensuring we have - and follow - a solid philosophy through all our football activities.”

Edu said: “Arsenal has always had a special place in my heart and I’m thrilled to be returning to this great club in this new role. We have a strong squad and some very talented young players with fantastic people at every level. I’m looking forward to helping make a difference.”

Edu spent five seasons with us from 2001, making 30 appearances in our 2003/04 unbeaten season. A hugely-talented midfielder and fans’ favourite, Edu represented Brazil 22 times and also had two spells with Corinthians and played for Valencia under Emery.

After ending his playing career in 2010, he became Corinthians director of football and has been the general coordinator of the Brazil national team, a role similar to the one he’s taken with us, since 2016.

Yet another shambolic transfer window so far for Arsenal. With such a miserly and pitiful budget available to the manager Arsenal are going to fall even further behind the top 4.

Also. how long will Aubameyang and Lacazette hang around if they're not playing Champions League football?

I hope this is good riddance. A panicky defender IMO. Doesn’t deserve to be the captain either.

Agreed with most of the post but your views on Lacazette and Aubameyang are completely off. They can play for any team in Europe’s elite. Especially Aubameyang (top scorer in EPL).

I think there is a reason why Arsenal were able to sign Aubameyang ahead of the elite clubs, in spite of his several public admissions that his dream is to play for Real Madrid. Same goes for Lacazette as well. Arsenal are no longer in a position where it can sign a prominent, world class player in his prime years.

Football has changed and top players no longer slip under the radar anymore unless they are very young. Every major club has an extensive scouting network. If a player in his 20s comes to Arsenal today, he is not good enough to play for the elite. I might sound cynical but that is what how I feel at the moment.

I was skeptical about Xhaka in 2016 for the same reason. People were very excited about how he was one of the best young CMs in the game and a leader and all that, but if he was really that good, would Arsenal have been able to snap him up ahead of the top-tier clubs?

Nonetheless, let's see what happens in this window. I think Emery should push for Dembele or Malcolm on loan if Neymar returns to Barcelona. Either of them would be fantastic additions because they really need a proper winger.

With 5 youngsters and Nelson being promoted to the first team, it’s obvious we are going back to the 07-08/ or as some would say the Ajax model.

I still think Saka needs to be promoted - he is ahead of his peers and we lack proper wingers. With Edu in, we’ll see more links with Malcolm and Everton, I think the latter seems more realistic.

In terms of management - we are way way way behind. No strategy in place and our decision making in terms of wage structure and getting deals over the line is very poor. Still few weeks left, so let’s see what happens in the window.
