It would be nice to hear what was your experience like pre 9/11 as a Muslim living in the West. How has it changed ? What was it like before ? Just curious.

Definitely more security at airports.
I noticed a very large spike in attacks against muslims in the uk after 9/11. It calmed down a lot after 2005. But recently it's started to rise up again

Life changed after Iranian revolution - 9/11 came much later.

I was 6 when 9/11 happened so don't remember much about life before however it has impacted my childhood cause these past two decades have been all about islamophobia and anti-muslim paranoia

Life was always tough here. But obviously since 9/11 things have been getting worse and worse.

I had a great childhood. Nobody knew anything about Muslims. I used to practically teach Islam in RE lessons. Kids paid no attention in RE and it was considered a doss subject. They'd raise an eyebrow or two about halal food, not accepting their Haribo's, but that was about it.

Then 9/11 happened, and suddenly our faith was being dissected in front of our eyes. Every attention seeking atheist suddenly became a scholar of Islam. Kids learnt from their parents about how evil Islam is. People thought it was fine to suddenly start insulting our God and Prophet. I was 14 when 9/11 happened.

Alhamdulillah,, I learnt more about my faith in the time since than I ever would have. That event was a catalyst, it woke people up and it made us aware never to become too comfortable. People will turn on you. However, it also showed us that evil exists in our own communities too.

To summarise, life was simpler. Or maybe I just grew older?

Was living in NY when 9/11 happened, kids in school teased and stuff and there was news hysteria. Some immigrants were made to register into database and fbi/nypd did survilence near mosques and went after some shady people. Overall, America has become a less and less immigrant friendly nation since, before I feel immigrants were welcomed with open arms, now not so much.

I think there's also some discrimination when interviewing for jobs especially government jobs where your resume will get tossed if you have a muslim name.

Life has not really changed much for Muslim's in the west. We are still much safer then Muslims are in the Middle East, Africa and India. As I don't wear my religion on my sleeve have never experienced any discrimination.

It's really has changed the perception of non Muslims towards Muslims. Don't think things will ever be Back to normal again for Muslims whether in West or east or anywhere else in the world..

Was only about 8 when it happened, but I remember the average person didn't really know anything about Muslims before that.

It made me look deeper into the faith which I wasn't really folllowing or believing in. I thought I would realise religions are just made up but the opposite happened, I was totally convinced Islam is a great religion for mankind and after further study convinced it's not a man made religion but the truth from the Creator of everything.

Many Muslims have suffered a lot of hate and some violence. Many have been murdered as we see in NZ recently. Nations have been destroyed, millions have been murdered and this is yet to be over sadly. However this is not the fault of Islam but the real terrorists who are Zionist leaders and their lapdogs.

Many non-Muslims have also converted to Islam after 911.

No matter what they do, how much they try Islam will remain a strong belief for billions and eventually out live the terrorist empires which have made this belief their enemy.

I was in my early twenties when 9/11 happened and was working in Texas. Perhaps I was young and single, so didn’t pay much attention. But personally I didn’t notice much difference between my life pre and post 911. I mean things got a bit rough because the economy tanked right after and that affected everybody. Muslims and other minorities were always impacted by racism at some levels in the US so its hard to say how much of an impact 911 made. I know for a fact though that some employers made a conscientious effort to ensure Muslim employees were on their work rosters for diversity’s sake. Kind of like affirmative action for Muslims.

That being said and all, I feelthings are much different and worse now in the US than they were after 911. There is open hostility and hatred towards Muslims and its becoming generally acceptable to be an islamophobe or consider them un-American.
Anti minority sentiment is becoming more and more mainstream. So Muslims are in the same boat as Latinos, Asians, Jews and others in the US.

These are tumultuous times in the US for minorities in my opinion. The election of Barack Obama just somehow woke up the inner white supremacist tendencies of America, and has lashed out in vengeance. There is a widespread belief that blacks and Latinos bring a criminal element to the US and are a burden on the welfare programs, and Muslims just can’t adapt to the West and are bad Americans because of their belief.

It's changed a lot but it made me more mature and opened my eyes around me and made me realize how cruel and racist some white people and even black people can be Agaisnt a religion

I was ten at the time it happened and from 10-15 years old I dealt with racism in fact even my teacher would through jabs about Islam and Pakistan ( in political way but I knew what they were doing for a while I wouldn't say anything once I hit 13 I started to talk back and stand up for who I am since that I never looked back lol)

Prior to 9/11 it was great no one really knew much about Islam or Pakistan they thought we were all Indians or Hindus or even Arabs lol but they didn't know much and they didn't seem to care so long as you did your thing and didn't bother anyone people would like you

My dad said when we was working here in Montreal the people that had some knowledge of Islam prior to 9/11 were very respectful towards Muslims since they worked hard did Ramadan did not drink alcohol and were genuinely kind people he said his colleagues said Muslims were inspirational people , how ever once 9/11 happened his colleague were different and didn't say good things about Muslim

As time progressed and the years as well people started to realize things to and aren't so bad now how ever can't like the black community ( Haitian ) in Montreal from my experience even till this day are very ignorant about Islam and Pakistan and are racist too, I would also say the same about the Hispanic community as well

Again this is from my experience
