Ashes 2025/26: Australia vs England | 4th Test | Melbourne | December 26-30 | Match Discussion

Flat pitch - England lost
Bouncy pitch - England lost
Pink ball pitch - England lost
Green mamba - ????

What is the kind of pitch England likes so that Australia can design pitches suiting their wish. Aussies are relentless mocking the arrogant pre-series speech now.

Australia, and the Southern Hemisphere in general, has become a very tough place to bat in recent times.

Top 3 venues for seam movement are all in Australia
I remember last year when Ind toured, people were expecting SCG to be flat which usually is true but it turned out to be the most difficult pitch of the entire tour.

I think they are deliberately preparing these pitches as they know that Bazballers are amazing on Flat beds.

This Ashes is a perfect example of how all teams prepare(or tamper) their home pitches for victory.

The likes of MCG and SCG used to be flat tracks with true bounce but seeing how Bazballers play on flat pitches they modified their pitches.

Let us put this way. SCG never behaved like this ever in my memory. Even in 1999 tour which was supposedly slightly spicier Laxman made 167 in 200 balls or so. He butchered 150k Brett Lee for 52 runs in 5 overs.

scoring games ? Can you list 5 Tests matches in last 5 years where pitch had 10mm of grass ?
I said it's not unheard of. Not that it's common. Last Ashes Boxing Day Test also had 10 mm grass length .

Shield matches have, sometimes, longer grass as well

Steve smith is totally done. He is trying to dance his way into form. This is not exactly a great series. Nothing to do with quality of bowling. He is almost at the end of the rope. HE may score again. But Aussies can see his end is near.

OFF TOPIC:
IF Temu is so awful, I wonder what would be the quality of an Indian version?

BACK to the topic:
Grass is not always the only factor in this test and NEVER it always is. The fans just do not have any sense of how atmosphere plays the role. OR, they just IGNORE it to ASSERT a point. I am not gonna go in detail when all the info about it is there on everyone's fingertip. Was it overcast conditions that resulted the fall of 20 wickets or just the presence of grass ONLY - or BOTH?

It is the exact reason one can't compare 2 batsmen in my opinion unless they are playing together at the same time - they always play under different conditions which effects the batting (or bowling which is a different matter). But hey, as long as statistics is creating a drama, we tend to enjoy this sensation.

Was bright & sunny after lunch btw ...

Boland's reception today more or less equaled the top biggest roaring moments at the G

* Warne's 700th wicket (2006)
* Mitchell Johnsons 2013 dominating spell and sledging
* Dennis Lille's spell against Richards in 1981

Those are the moments that had highest crowd involvement.

England are so poor that they can't even chase 150 runs target here, although Bazball madness brags about chasing 400
