Asia bibi leaves for Canada after Supreme Court acquittal

Not sure where you (or Kashif) grabbed that image from, PTI hasn't organised any protest against Asia bibi. This looks most probably from a different protest (maybe Danish cartoons??)

As for Imran Khan's stance, here is the link where you can find his stance on blasphemy law and in particular Asia bibi case

<iframe frameborder="0" width="480" height="270" src="//www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x2y51hm" allowfullscreen></iframe><br /><a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2y51hm_policymatter-imran-khan-on-asia-bibi-case-blasphemy-laws-november-27-2010_news" target="_blank">PolicyMatter: Imran Khan on Asia Bibi Case...</a> <i>by <a href="http://www.dailymotion.com/RobDonovan" target="_blank">RobDonovan</a></i>

Sadly it doesn't support your mantra of Imran taking us back to Zia era. It's amazing that you don't have similar views about that Ameer ul Momineen Nawaz Sharif who always wanted to complete Zia's mission and called him daddy.

Danish cartoons were published in 2006 and I doubt it's from then but either way, the issue is with the use of death penalty for blasphemy in general, not just this particular case. My stance of Imran being another Zia in the making still stands even if we disregard his equivocation laden criticism of the misuse of the blasphemy law(as opposed to the law itself). There's plenty else to go on to make that judgement. As for my views on Ameer-ul-Momineen, my stance on his policies and particularly his cozy relations with Lashkar e Jhangvi etc are pretty clear given how many times I have lambasted him personally and his party here but then that doesn't support your position that anyone who dares criticize T.Khan must be a noora so it gets conveniently disregarded.

It is a deep-rooted ideological problem. The common, uneducated man in Pakistan still believes that the blasphemy law is valid.

Pakistan will fail as a nation if it fails to give justice to this soul.

The common educated man feels the exact same way and much more strongly at that. Why should the uneducated folk(not including city dwelling illiterates), who are generally more tolerant than their educated counterparts, be blamed for an issue that draws the vast majority of it's support from cities? The several thousand strong network of lawyers who defend anyone who kills an alleged blasphemer free of charge and kill opposition lawyers are more of a problem than some country bumpkin in Chak#341 District Sahiwal.

Brother I do not know what's in that attachment as it says invalid link so it isn't opening.

Imran Khan is either clearly a hypocrite in some matters including blasphemy law issue or he fears for his Life by stating the obvious. In a Interview with Aljazeera few months ago He was asked couple of straight forward questions by Mehdi Hasan and Imran Khan did not give a straight forward answer and did Aaein Baaein Shaaein.

Just saw it on Tapatalk.

Won't be surprised if it is the stance of Ali Mohammad Khan. He is one from Right Wing surely.

Off course he is still Zia ul Haq, in a country where 95% people strongly support in blasphemy laws, he is clearly taking a stance against the law and supported Asia bibi but he is still wajibul nafrat fro you like he is wajibul qatal for others, land of EXTREMISTS :D

Aasia Bibi’s family fears for safety if court sets her free

LONDON: The family of Aasia Bibi, a Christian mother who faces the prospects of becoming the first person to be executed for blasphemy in the country, said they hoped the Supreme Court would free her.

But in any case they feared for their future living in Pakistan under the blasphemy laws, they told AFP.

Bibi, who has been on death row since 2010, is at the centre of the high-profile case that has divided Pakistan and drawn prayers from the Vatican.

On Monday, the Supreme Court heard her last appeal and said it had reached a judgement, which it has yet to reveal.

“We are hopeful that whatever the court proceedings are it will come out as positive for us,” her husband Ashiq Masih said.

Her daughter Eisham Ashiq added: “I will be very happy the day my mother will be released. I will hug her and will cry meeting her and will thank God that he has got her released.”

Bibi’s family are in London on a visit organised by Aid to the Church in Need, a charity.

But her family said that if Bibi is released, it would be difficult to stay in her homeland.

“Pakistan is ours: we were born there, raised there,” Masih said.

“The only tension we have is the blasphemy law. Aasia Bibi, after her release, can’t stay there in the presence of this law. Living in Pakistan for us is very difficult. We don’t go out of our home and if we go, we come out very carefully. Life in Pakistan for us is very difficult,” he said

on a serious note, this is beyond pathetic.

Even if she committed what she is being accused off then still she cannot be executed. It's not in the Islam teachings.

I mean I was told at a very early age about a lady who used to through garbage on our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and that one day when she didn’t our Holy went to her place to inquire about her health. I mean listening about that event and then watching ppl actively seeking blasphemy charges against those who they deemed as contemptuous to His sanctity is very contradictory. I could never imagine how killing those who commit blasphemy can somehow protect the sanctity of Holy Prophet (PBUH). If anything, executing ppl for blasphemy does exactly the opposite of that.

this.

people think they love the Prophet, They just faking it. showing off.

If they for real love the prophet, they would never do such things. Instead make themselves example according to the teachings of Islam and show the others

I think that somewhere along the line ppl lost the real idea of what it means to be the follower of the greatest person who ever drew breath on this planet.

Pretty sure that there will be some scholar who will rubbish that story as a false hadith or whatever it is. That is the problem when you go down the road of enshrining religious law. That is not to say Asia Bibi is innocent or guilty, I don't know the particulars of this case, but regardless, having a blasphemy law makes this sort of dilemma inevitable.

9 out of 10 scholars would accept it as a theological fact.

The problem with the story is that it doesn't appear to exist in the hadith records at all, forget about it being false... There are many similar ones, however.

Back to the topic, the case is a complete farce.

Honestly Pakistan is not the place for non Muslims.

Something needs to be done for minority. We always talk about USA and how they treat minorities and sensationalise everything.

My heart goes out to them. They deserve to move to another country where it’s not backwards. and democracy and freedom of speech exists.

Sad really.

I beg to differ. Minorities have a place in Pakistan and we fully support them. You will always find news relating to discrimination in every part of the world. Unfortunately foreign agencies have also been playing their part in destroying our peace and harmony.

You are probably not from minority if I'm correct?

The plight of minorities in Pakistan is in no way comparable to the odd cases of discrimination found all over the world. Pakistan as a nation have not only failed it's religious minorities, but has also failed it's minority Muslim sects too. Even the second largest Muslim school of thought in Pakistan, Shias, who make up around 20% of the population, face open discrimnation and hatred from people in every level society, it is literally at the level of institutionalized discrimination. When a group of people have to pretend to be something they are not whilst in public, things must genuinely be really bad.

If Muslims have so much hate for other Muslims due to slightly differing beliefs, then I can't fathom what minorities such as Christians, and Hindus must go through.

I really hope that today justice is served, and Aasia bibi walks free and is able to move to a country where she and her family can live peacefully. Something really needs to be done about these archaic blasphemy laws, but unfortunately, no one who has the power to do anything about it will advocate against it without putting their and their family's lives in danger. I don't see Imran Khan or PTI doing anything about it in the forseeable future, so I can only hope that people like Jibran Nasir can gain more relavance in the future.

Odd case? Last week in the most powerful and advanced country in the world 14 people died for being Jewish and African American.

A Christian woman who was sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy has won her appeal and been acquitted in a landmark ruling.

Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 after being accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a row with her neighbours.

She always maintained her innocence, but has spent most of the past eight years in solitary confinement.

Her case has been deeply divisive in Pakistan where there is strong support for the blasphemy laws.

There is tight security in the capital, Islamabad, amid fears of violence. Hardline religious clerics have called on their supporters to take to the streets.

The ruling was read out by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar at the Supreme Court in Islambad.

"The appeal is allowed. She has been acquitted. The judgement of high court as well as trial court is reversed. Her conviction is set aside."

Critics say Pakistan's strict blasphemy laws have often been used to get revenge after personal disputes, and that convictions are based on thin evidence.

Asia Bibi's case gained added prominence when a regional governor, Salman Taseer, who had appealed for leniency for her was murdered in a public square in Islamabad by his own bodyguard.

His killer was sentenced to death but remains a hero to many.

What were the allegations against her?
The trial stems from an argument Asia Bibi - who has four children - had with a group of women in June 2009.

They were harvesting fruit in Sheikhupura, near Lahore, when a row broke out about a bucket of water. The women said that because she had drunk from a cup they could no longer use it, as her faith had made it unclean.

The woman alleged that in the row which followed, they said Asia Bibi should convert to Islam, and that she made three offensive comments about the Prophet Muhammad in response.

She was later beaten up at her home, during which her accusers say she confessed to blasphemy. She was arrested after a police investigation.

Asia Bibi admitted to exchanging "hot words" with her neighbours but has always maintained she said nothing blasphemous, and had never confessed.

Her lawyers said the prosecution case was full of contradictions.

What support has she had?
Islam is Pakistan's national religion and underpins its legal system. Public support for the strict blasphemy laws is strong.

Hardline politicians have often backed severe punishments, partly as a way of shoring up their support base.

One of Asia Bibi's most prominent supporters was Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab province. He had called for her to be pardoned and for the blasphemy laws to be overhauled.

He was shot dead in broad daylight in early 2011 by his security guard, Mumtaz Qadri. Qadri was sentenced to death but remains a hero to many.

But internationally, Asia Bibi's conviction has been widely condemned as a breach of human rights.

What happens now?
There are fears that there could be a violent response to her acquittal.

As with her previous trials and appeal large crowds have gathered outside the court in Islamabad on Wednesday demanding her conviction be upheld.

She has been offered asylum by several countries and was expected to leave the country if acquitted.

Her daughter, Eisham Ashiq, had previously told the AFP news agency that if she were released: "I will hug her and will cry meeting her and will thank God that he has got her released."

But the family said they feared for their safety and would likely have to leave Pakistan.

Asia bibi has been freed and finally gets the justice after 8 years.

Massive respect for CJ Saqib Nisar and upcoming CJ Asif Saeed Khosa as this will surely put them (and their families) at huge risk. Khadim Rizvi and his gang threatened for massive protests all across Pakistan so hopefully security is on high alert and SC judges are given top level security.

Media must not give this any coverage (this is when we need blackout).

I think it's a huge day for Pakistan as it sends the message that decisions are made on merit without being politically correct.

Heartwarming news, well done to the judges who have taken this bold decision in the face of serious threats to their lives. One of the best news stories to come out of Pakistan in a long time, humanity still exists in our world.

Justice has been served. I really hope the state backs up the Supreme Court's decision by standing up to these extremists goons. It's about damn time.

Read on twitter that she will be flown away from Pakistan today.

Bravo to the media outlets, who were probably instructed by the govt. to not give any coverage to the Rizvi mob on TV

TLP is currently anti-state, anti-ruling party, anti-army, anti-Pakistan. There will never be a better opportunity to put an end to their extremism

Asia Bibi's acquittal: TLP protests in various cities across Pakistan

KARACHI: Supporters of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) took to the streets in several parts of the country on Wednesday following a Supreme Court verdict acquitting and ordering the release of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death over blasphemy allegations.

Protests were being staged in different cities including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, with major roads blocked.

The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 barring the gathering of people in public places. Section 144 has been imposed across the province from October 31 to November 10.

Lahore
In Lahore, a protest led by TLP chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi was being staged at Charing Cross.

The Lahore-Islamabad Motorway was blocked at Sheikhupura. The GT Road has also been blocked.

Islamabad
In Islamabad, Faizabad, Aabpara, and Kashmir Highway adjacent to Aabpara have been blocked by protesters.

Karachi
According to Karachi traffic police, the following roads in the metropolis were blocked:

Both sides of the road on Lyari Expressway from Karachi to Hyderabad were closed for traffic. Traffic was being diverted to Al-Asif Square towards Abul-Hassan Asfahani road.

Roads were also closed for traffic at Star Gate.

Tower road was closed for traffic, with diversions from Jinnah Bridge towards MT Khan Road, MA Jinnah Road towards Baba-e-Urdu Chowk, and II Chundrigar Road towards University Centre.

Both sides of the road on Numaish Chowk were also closed for traffic.

Peshawar
In Peshwar, protests were being staged at the Ring Road, GT Road, Jamil Chowk, and outside the Peshawar Press Club.

Protests were also being staged in Gujranwala, Layyah, Chishtian, Mansehra, Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, and other cities across the country.

Will only make them a martyr.

I'm not saying to open fire on them but these hooligans are blocking roads, destroying public property. They are a menace to other citizens and force must be used to put them in their place, otherwise govt. will be sending them the message that we are weak and we can't do anything while you take this country hostage

There needs to be a diplomatic approach to this to begin with and following that, a machiavellian approach.

1) Arrange meetings with the top leaders of these mullah organisations and convince them to put an end to it. Bribe them or do whatever you want but make them stop the hooliganism on streets.

2) Make a hit list of such organisations and the powerful people in them.

3) over the next few months or years, eliminate the people in the list one at a time by arresting them on one pretext or the other. Once you have removed the leadership, bring all these organisations under the fold of state making them agents of the state itself.

4) Invest in education heavily so that people turn away from these organisations and send their kids to government schools.

No offence but I think you are far too naive. These people are extremists and hate-mongers, they do not believe in reason or rational thought, only in manipulating religion to in-turn manipulate their followers and appease their self-interests. Making any sort of "deal" with them is giving them an upper-hand to continue this hate-mongering and hooliganism in the future.

You think previous govt. didn't ask them to stop this stuff when they made a deal with them? Their hate-mongering has already seen the removal of a Law Minister and an Economic Advisor, unless some kind of strong message isn't sent these things will only continue.

I know what you meant. You don’t have to die to become a political martyr.

I hope the state provides her security from all the hooligans who have come out on the street. It's a shame how minorities are treated in this country despite what Islam teaches us. The Government needs to start making a stand and not give into these mullahs and their backwards beliefs.

I obviously dont live in Pakistan and have ties on it through heritage and family who live there.

However the sense of happiness at her acquittal makes me quite sad. Not that her being released is a bad thing, its wonderful and I hope she gets to savour her freedom in a country other than Pakistan.

This women was insulted, deemed impure, beaten up, accused of a heinous crime, spent years in confinement, a man was murdered and the murderer celebrated.

Now goons are burning stuff in the streets because of the verdict.

Great stuff from the brave judge but honestly what an absolute shambles these mad mullahs have reduced Pakistan to.

I know what you meant. You don’t have to die to become a political martyr.

They will be a political martyr only in the eyes of their brain-washed supporters. No legitimate political party or anyone with even a shred of rational thought will bat an eye. Most people will likely welcome this decision.

These mad mullahs have been doing this for decades. The happiness comes because of the fact that finally some faith has been restored in our justice system, which at one point was considered powerless. This is a water-shed moment, just as the Panama verdict was and though things are still really bad, for the first time in a very long time there is optimism and hope.

TLP is currently anti-state, anti-ruling party, anti-army, anti-Pakistan. There will never be a better opportunity to put an end to their extremism

I said it when same group caused issues on oath issue (khatm e nabuwat) and i will say it again, don't use extreme violence against such people as they have huge amount of support through ignorance and brainwashing. Don't turn them into icons for their supporters and average person who relate to the issue.

Of course those taking law in their hands need to be punished but like people demanded last time to send Army all around the country to take action against them, it would be stupid to do anything like this.

Need to get rid of their leadership through proper tactics.

It is compulsory for all Muslims to kill those judges who overturned the decision - TLP

Technically she did commit blasphemy under the rules as they are.

Wrestle the rules and its interpretation. To me it seems that if a poor non Muslim get into and argument with a Muslim, blasphemy is invoked at them. This has to be stopped. Those making false charges must be punished.

The blasphemy law was brought on by the British to keep the peace between communities. Now it's used to get at minority communities.

It makes me mad to think that this whole saga started with a supposed Muslim telling a non Muslim that since you drank from that cup, it has become unclean. These are old Hindu customs that you would have thought these supposed Muslims would have gotten rid of.

This will give more ammunition to the rabid mullahs

Did you read anything after the first point?

Justice has finally been served albeit far too late. This woman has suffered immensely as a result of this backwards law which has now become a means of settling grudges than providing any religious protections.

What's depressing is the TLY mob that are now attempting to recreate Faizabad. They were emboldened after the State's humiliating climbdown last year and need to be met with an iron fist.

It's a sad indictment on the extremist influence in Pakistan that we're hoping the SC justices get maximum security protection from the nutters that'l now want to target them - as if they have committed some wrongdoing.

It is encouraging to see Media black out of TLP.

Removing of Khadim's tweet from today.

Religious affair minister distancing himself from fake account criticizing PTI

Almost all major political parties are supporting this decision by SC.

Protests haven't been huge in numbers, odd sit in and blockade of roads, which, I believe, in few hours will disappear.

It is very encouraging to see that Pakistan's justice and government has taken right decision to move country forward.

Those suggesting that Pakistani government should go on killing spree of other Pakistani just because they disagree is probably the dumbest and emotion trigger statement.

Great news.

Great post. Rizvi is desperate for attention, at all cost don’t give it to him.

Damn what a hard hitting address to the nation... the lion roars. Bloody mullahs better get in line or get killed.

I do not remember any PM addressing nation in support of minority.

In just 10 mins he called out TLP and labelled them as traitor, essentially ended TLP.

Well done IK- May Allah protect you, the Judges and Gen Bajwa. I want the ISI to infiltrate Rizvi and his thugs and quietly destroy from within.

COAS and SC Judges were being blamed and PM IK or Govt wasn't the target of TLP and Rizwi after this verdict but IK showed the guts and voluntarily jumped in to rescue

That’s what leaders do. It’s not IK fight but he knows that if 2 of the main state institutions are attacked and he doesn’t speak as the PM,then his call for a Naya PK will be hollow.

According to one *** on here apparently he is fascist.

IK is now on hit list of TLP and their sympathizers and we all know how quickly a Mumtaz Qadri like situation can happen to him but in the end he did the right thing and showed the nation how leaders take a stand instead of running away thinking it's not my fight but well plastic liberals are not going to admit it.

Btw i am visiting after a long time what happened to the new politics section it's not opening?

The last part of the verdict ends with a Hadees

IK is now on hit list of TLP and their sympathizers and we all know how quickly a Mumtaz Qadri like situation can happen to him but in the end he did the right thing and showed the nation how leaders take a stand instead of running away thinking it's not my fight but well plastic liberals are not going to admit it.

Btw i am visiting after a long time what happened to the new politics section it's not opening?

It got merged back to Time Pass, due to lack of activity since you and Mian weren't around and Nooras were busy hiding.

So the enemies of Islamic Republic of Pakistan are trying to destabilize the nation.

Enemies include the Mullahs and the bigot liberals.

Christians of Pakistan are our brothers and are as much Pakistani as any other religion's follower.

Supreme Court of Pakistan has dictated its verdict.

La ilaha illallah muhammad rasulullah, baby. From now til infinity.

IA he stays safe as this move is right and dangerous. But the raat in grave, can’t be anywhere else.

The politics section seemed to have become a section for the diehards and not enough casual users were contributing.

True

I guess it's a good move to merge it back thn to TP

They need to get rid of this draconian law slowly and surely. Start by reducing punishment to 1-2 years. Getting rid of it all at once will put the mullahs on notice and there will be chaos all around. After some time of calm, get rid of it all together.

I don't understand Hindi/Urdu that well but glad to see Imran being so brave, what a great act of leadership by him. He may fail or succeed in the long run as Pakistan PM but his heart is in the right place. 2 Pakistani politicians died trying to protect this lady, Imran and the judges have put targets behind their backs with their acts of defiance, almost all Pakistanis on PP/twitter are pleased with the verdict, this is wonderful to see.
