What's new

India (168/6) defeat Bangladesh (127) by 41 runs to advance to the final of Asia Cup 2025

After 140 it was too much for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh did well in patches. They were a very very poor t20 team in the past but seems to be making some progress.

Ultimately India had too much quality.

Today's match was the sequel nobody asked for — same script as Pakistan, same ending. India takes the wins whilst BD takes the moral win.

Hollow feeling. I have nto seen many batsmen from BD. Since they beat SL i thought they would be more competitive. Seeing them they are way way behind lot of top teams.

Bangladesh didn't field their main team today. They didn't field Taskin, Litton, and Mahedi. That's like India playing without SKY, Bumrah, and Kuldeep. :inti

I think if they make it to final, they may try harder and with a full team. :inti

Anyway, need to win tomorrow. :inti

I don't think even Pakistan could chase this target against India with Bumrah now again bowling hard lengths. Pakistan's best bet will be to bat first
I think people are too in awe of Bumrah. What Fakhar did was exactly right. You think he didn’t want to bowl a hard length in that match. He wasn’t sure of himself because the charge disturbs the length. No one is a robot

good point. Puzzling they didn’t play them. Treating this as a practice match?

If you are not going to make the final what is the point of practice lol IT is comical to come up with these excuses. If a top team like Australia rests players you can say that played a role. Not Bangladesh team. They haven't reached that level either to experiment to give that excuse

Yeah, they are behind a lot of things in T20. However, new management is at least trying to do something with T20. Our previous administration was always targeting next World Cups. We lost to Scotland in one of T20 WCs, and also almost lost to Oman.

Why are you guys not able to take on Axar besides that opener. HE is like one of typical left arm spinner you see in Bangladesh all the time.

Yeah no idea. Axar also almost had hat trick against us in the Champions Trophy? Axar is generally a good bowler, the best player against him I have seen was Klassen. Some crazy hitting in that T20 WC game.

I agree, but then why did they not play them? I didn’t really watch the game fully (only last 7 overs of Bangla innings) or have been following India or Bangladesh team news. Are they even in the squad?

Makes no sense why they wouldn’t play them if they are fit and in the squad

LItton kumar side strain. Others were rested because they probably believed it is easier to beat Pakistan than india. So they rested Mahedi, Taskin since there is no gap. BD has played all these guys before against India and got thrashed.

Yes.

It was probably because they had back to back games. They didn't want to cause fatigues to main players I guess.

If they beat Pakistan tomorrow, they are through to final. So, this Indian game wasn't that important. It was like a warmup.

Hearing some match review by former cricketers seems like they are in complete experiment mode. They put themselves in awkward situations deliberately. Bumrah not even in IPL bowle 3 overs on the trot. So everything seems to be a plan for world T20.

BD management must have felt that beating Pakistan was more realistic than beating India. Hence, it made sense to rest some of their main players, esp. in view of back-to-back games / save them for tomorrow.

Considering India's strong batting (They did falter after the powerplay, however, by then the damage had already been done. 72 runs in the powerplay is just too many. Abhishek was bossing the show), Bangladesh would have taken 168 at the halfway mark.

Batting again let the team down. Batsmen showed brilliance in patches, hitting boundaries against India's main bowlers, bar Kuldeep. With better shot selection and application (btw, Pak batsmen have the same issues), they could have chased this total down or at least got very close to it. Too many needless aerial shots..

It remains to be seen how India responds if Abhishek goes early in pp. Even today, he was dropped by the keeper on 7. It is really mind-boggling to me that lesser players like Shivam Dube and Axar Patel (he's an average batsman, bowling is over-rated) ahead of a sensational batsman like Jaiswal. India could have easily opened with Abhishek and Jaiswal. You don't really need a 6th bowler in this format. If you cannot even bowl 4 overs, then u should not be in the team. SKY can bowl a bit too.

Ideally SKY should be out and Jaiswal in with Gill captaining.

We even have Rinku on the bench

T20 is a form game. If a batsman is going through a prolonged bad patch you can'tkeep playing him. "Backing" players is needed for teams that don't have bench strength. India' doesn't need to "back" players forever. They have replacements.

Exactly Rinku is on the bench FGS lol

Yup. Possible.

Also, another issue was NRR. If BD beat India and lose to Pakistan, BD may still get knocked out because of NRR factor. Pakistan have a better NRR.

So, only likely way they can qualify is by beating Pakistan. Winning or losing against India was unlikely to affect qualification, unless BD won big against India (which was always unlikely).

Anyway, hoping for a good knockout game tomorrow.

If they lose to Pak they could miss being in the final even if they win against India. So it makes sense to put effort to win against Pak especially when they struggle to beat India. This becomes more important as they are playing back to back matches. So if they planned it, then it is a good strategy

Yes. They know they will lose to India even with full team. So they are hedging their bets to beat pakistan which i totally understand. INfact smart move. But saying "they rested key players because this is a practice match" is comical lol
