Suryakumar Yadav Ineffective Against Pakistan: Former Batter Claims Ahead Of Asia Cup 2025
India captain Suryakumar Yadav has been a T20 phenomenon, having scored runs at an alarming rate against most opposition in the world. He has played 83 T20Is, and in those, he has slammed 2,598 runs at a strike rate of over 167, with four tons in 21 fifties in the format.
He will lead India in the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be his biggest assignment as skipper. However, former Pakistan batter Bazid Khan points out that the India skipper has not been effective against Pakistan - a trend India will hope comes to an end in the eight-team event.
“Suryakumar scores runs against almost everyone, but somehow, against Pakistan, he hasn’t been effective. Whether it is the pace attack or some other reason, it remains an issue," Bazid said on PTV Sports.
In the five matches against Pakistan, Surya's highest score is 18, and he has managed just 64 runs against them at a strike rate of 118.51.
Bazid also believes India will miss "high-intensity players" like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with Ravindra Jadeja, all of whom retired from T20Is after India's T20 World Cup 2024 triumph.
“Look, all these players are high-class. There isn’t anyone here you would say is not of that calibre. But the high intensity that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma brought to the game – that is something India will surely miss," Bazid said.
“People talk about Virat and Rohit, but Jadeja was someone who really helped the team gel together. Axar Patel is there, but Jadeja gave you balance as a batter, as a bowler, and above all, with his fielding. In world cricket, Jadeja was among the top one or two fielders," he added.
India will begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign against the UAE on September 10. They will then take on Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
