Asian Games 2023: Men's Cricket Tournament thread

I saw the scorecard now and they are 51/4 after 8.1 overs. When will I ever see something like 78/0 after 7 overs when any Pakistani team bats. They are always few wickets down no matter which team they play.
Pakistan will make batting against Somalia exciting !!!

100 should be enough to defend.
Don't think HK can chase that.

you are underestimating their batting. Unless the pitch is a minefield, anything under 140 is easily chaseable. India smashed 200 today and Nepal made 180 in their chase. Also, our bowling doesn't have much firepower.

Arafat is our last hope. The kid is very sensible. Should have come to bat before Asif and Khushdil.

Some excellent shots from Arafat Minhas. Looks like if these two guys stay on the crease, we will be looking at 150.

Pakistan is lucky that one of main bowler of Hongkong was injured.. Otherwise 70 all out for sure 😝

looking at the cricinfo scorecard we are only playing one pacer and amer jamal as the allrounder is that right..

Just two specialist bowlers and 3 allrounders with Khushdil as the sixth bowler.

Pakistan may have been saved due to brilliant efforts of the lower order but were the clowns at Top order doing. Falling like Cards.

At the end of the Pakistan Shaheens's innings, the final score is 160.
Will they be able to defend this one? I guess they will defend this score considering Hong Kong's batting line.

Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah define mediocrity in its highest order.

Seems like a good score in the end, thanks to the lower order batsmen.

How did Asif, Khushdil and Haider find their way back ?
Did they have really good PSL ?

No. But they show a lot of intent. Apparently, that's a favorite criterion of some of the fans on this board as well.

Players who score runs are just stat padders. Players who show intent are the real deal.

First with the bat and now with the ball, Arafat minhas is on fire. He has taken his first wicket, Hong Kong lost their first wicket on a score of 10.

Arafat minhas has some touch of Ravinder Jadeja action or is it just me who thinks like that?

By the way, Arafat has his 2nd one. Hong Kong are 2 down now for 17. Trouble Trouble

Oh boy. Poor umpiring. The keeper did not have the ball in hand and still, the umpire gave it out. LOL. Comedy of errors.

When team selections are based on favouritism these are the results.

Shocked there wasn't space for Sharjeel, Imad, Saim, Azam, Mir Hamza and Danish

Finally Arafat has taken his 2nd one after that comic stumping incident.

Hong Kong needs 114 runs in 72 balls. Will they be able to chase it down?

Khusdil shah taks a huge wicket. Babar hayat is gone. Hong Kong are 2 down now.

Hong Kong in deep deep trouble. Loosing 6 wickets for 57 chasing 160 is not a good sight for their fans.

Hong Kong is knocked out surely now. Their inexperience made them pay and knocked them out of the race for Asian Games gold.

It will be a perfect clown show .. this india vs pakistan asian games .. pathetic display by both teams against minnows

PAK 160 (20)
HK 92 (18.5) CRR: 4.88
Pakistan won by 68 runs and they are in semi-final of the Asian Games.

Fiery batting cameo by Aamer Jamal takes Pakistan to Asian Games semi-finals.

Pakistan defeated Hong Kong by 68 runs in the 19th Asian Games Men’s Cricket Quarter Finals played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field in Hangzhou, China on Tuesday. After being put into bat first, Pakistan scored 160 on the board, courtesy of aamer Jamal’s fiery batting display at death. In the second innings, the Qasim Akram-led spin attack proved too difficult a task for the Hong Kong batters who folded for 92 runs in 18.5 overs.

Nizakat Khan won the toss for Hong Kong and elected to field first. After a bumpy start to the innings, Pakistan eventually ended with a solid total of 160, owing to aamer’s extraordinary hitting in the final overs of the innings. Coming to bat in the 17th over, aamer took only 16 balls to score 41 runs, including four maximums and two boundaries.

Earlier in the innings, veteran Asif Ali and debutant Arafat Minhas stitched a partnership of 36 runs from 26 balls for the seventh wicket. Asif (25, 21b, 1x4, 2x6s) and Arafat (25, 16b, 2x4s, 2x6s) were the second highest scorers after aamer. Hong Kong had an impressive day with the ball; Ayush Shukla ended the innings with four wickets and Mohammad Ghazanfar grabbed three wickets.

In turn, Pakistan spinners rose to the occasion, allowing the side to completely command the game.. The Hong Kong batters fell victim to the web Arafat, Sufiyan Muqeem, Qasim Akram and Khushdil Shah spun around them. Khushdil got three wickets while the remaining three got two wickets each. Babar Hayat was the highest scorer for the side, after making 29 runs in 27 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes.

Pakistan will now feature in the second semi-final on Friday, 6 October against the winner of the third quarter-final between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka scheduled tomorrow.

Scores in brief:

Pakistan beat Hong Kong by 68 runs.

Pakistan: 160 all out in 20 overs (aamer Jamal 41, Arafat Minhas 25, Asif Ali 25, Omair Bin Yousuf 21; Ayush Shukla 4-49, Mohammad Ghazanfar 3-26)

Hong Kong: 92 all out in 18.5 overs (Babar Hayat 29; Khushdil Shah 3-13, Qasim Akram 2-5, Sufiyan Muqeem 2-11, Arafat Minhas 2-19)

Hilarious scenes in Asian Games!!!
Stumping decision went to the 3rd umpire. He gave it out. Batsman went all the way back to the pavilion.
Then all of a sudden the third umpire realised that the ball was not even in the keeper's gloves.
So he signaled not-out again. After almost 2 minutes, batsman came back to the pitch and the new batter had to go back to the pavilion again.

Afghanistan 116/10

Sri Lanka 108/10 (19.1 overs)

These asian games have international status.

Thus, few debuts were made from the Pakistan team.

Saim Ayub did not get selected, but a guy called Mirza Baig of LQ got an international debut? This is such a sifarishi pick

The Men's semifinals will be played tomorrow. In the first semifinal Bangladesh will face India and in second semifinal Afghanistan will face Pakistan.

India vs Bangladesh, Semi Final 1

BAN - 96/9 (20)
IND - 36/1 (3)

This is unfair to other sides. This Indian side is so much strong that it can give tough fight to some established teams.

India have Jaiswal who is sure shot future ATG, Classical Gaikwad, talented Tilak Verma, Fearless Rinku Singh And Washington Sundar who have helped His side to a series win in Australia against likes of starc, Cummins and Hazlewood

Almost everyone in Indian side has international experience, and all of them have much experience of first class Cricket and IPL in such young agem.

Totally unfair

Qais Ahmed got another one now. This time it is haider ali and Pakistan are 4 down. 61/4

Haven't watched it but from the last games, scorecards and team selections it appears the pitches aren't batting friendly. Anything over 120 would be a good score. Pakistan should recalibrate and bat more sensibly only hitting out in the last 5. Which is why Arafat might have been a better choice to come in instead of Khushdil.

Haider Ali - what a clown. County cricket is his ceiling alongside enjoying little things in life.
