Asian Games 2023: Men's Cricket Tournament thread

Pakistan is going to be fielding two teams at once today. Possibly, simultaneously.


- Pakistan is currently batting in the 10th over against Afghanistan in a Asian Games 2023 Semi-Final Match in Hangzhou, China

- Pakistan will start to play in 1.5 hrs time against Netherlands in a World Cup 2023 Group-Stage Match in Hyderabad, India

Has this happened before? This is very interesting.
 
It's undertandable that pakistani batsmen struggle on bouncy seaming wickets, but they can't even play spin properly, this has been a big problem for the last 10-15 years.
 
Why didn't we pick Saim Ayub and Azam Khan for this tournament?

Nobodies like Rohail Nazir and Mirza are playing. Bunch of jokers
 
Pakistan is in trouble now. Lost their 5th wicket for 71. Qasim Akram is gone.
 
Asif ali is in now. We might see another Asif vs. Fareed encounter here.

Today will be a dark day with two Pakistan teams losing to Afghanistan and Netherlands?

If Haider, Asif or Khushdil come back to Pakistan's main team, it will be a travesty.
 
This is Afgans B team...i knew they had quality i just wish we had even one of their spinners..
 
Asif Ali and Khushdil should be ashamed, can't imagine they have managed to play so much of international cricket.

13.2 Cries of catch it and taken by Qais at long-on! That is a massive wicket. He was a touch too early in his thwack down the ground

This isn't a flat wicket. You need to play normal cricket and then have wickets at the end to hit out. Instead you lose 7 wickets in 13 overs trying to slog.
 
Which of these are we missing in the WC squad, seems like there is no system, just getting lucky with occasional sheer talent, rest like the whole country is parchi.
 
Afghans have picked experienced players who missed out on wc squad.
Its like India selecting Dhawan, Chahal and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. Or Pakistan selecting Amir, Imad, Haris Sohail, Sarfraz.

Good analysis.

The approach in the team camp is 'danday gira doh, balla ghooma doh'. Only if the players had education until high school to understand how to adapt and the meaning of adaptation.
 
Afghanistan lost their 1st wicket. Captain Qasim Akram got Sediqullah Ata for 5. Afghanistan is 9/1
 
I'm sure some fat guy in the selection committee didn't even bother checking if this was an international match.
 
First wicket down . Pakistan can win this game if they can get 2 more early wickets

He would have checked the things that matter though. Halwa, nihari and biryani. Checked those inside out.

Because half the batting order is composed of braindead sloggers - Baig, Haider, Asif and Khushdil. Even Qasim often goes that route. The only two sensible players are Omair and Arafat but even Omair slogged today. Both today and in the last game they should have promoted Arafat over Asif and Khushdil to consolidate a bit and then hit out in the last 5-6 overs. We do have the firepower to do that but if you lose 7 wickets slogging blindly then there is no recovery.

PCB's press release says "Pakistan Shaheens squad for Asian Games announced". I don't think Shaheens play international matches, so the guys at PCB were clueless.

Legit prophecy. At least one of the three players you mentioned will make a comeback soon and end up worsening their record.

Spinners got their line and length perfect now, Afg need 25 from 23 with 6 down.

This Amer Jamal single handedly lost the match in one over..bowling no balls sixes and wides for fun.
 
WHy bring in pace when spinner were doing so well. ON another note, good thing we didnt take Aamer Jamal to the WC.

Afghanistan beat Pakistan by 4 wickets
 
Horrible death pace bowling and even bigger dumb decision by the captain to bring back pace on a track that was spinning miles.
 
Pakistan won the 1st match due to Jamal's batting and lost 2nd due to his bowling. Cricket is such a strange and unpredictable game.
But, no surprise to me as Afghanistan were much better and pre game favourites👍🏻

First of, Pakistan was playing Haider Ali, Asif Ali, Khushdil Shah and Mirza Iqbal Baig. It makes you wonder why these three failed bataman keep getting chances after chances. Pakistan could had gotten their first gold medal but PCB messed that up by giving chances to these useless guys

Pakistan tried to write Shaheens on the team sheet, but officially it was an international t20 game, thus someone like Mirza Baig now has an international cap.

This is a major embarrassment and should not be ignored

I mean, we were picking rubbish players lol, it's not like this outcome is a shock or anything.
 
From 49/1, Pakistan were reduced to 75/6 in stunning fashion. From thereon, they could have easily been bowled out for less than 100 before their tail dragged them to 115.

But it will go under the table

First off, pakistan should had given the deserveing players a chance here. This wasnt an A tour. This was international. No matter what pakistan writes on team sheet, we will go with what was official.

Someone like Mirza Iqbal baig has a t20 international cap over tayyab tahir is stupid.

Correct players should had been picked, deserving ones.

Haider ali, khusdil and asif suck. Yet they got a chance.

Shahnawqz dhani who was good enough to be in the asia cup squad was not good enough to he in the playing 11 of this game? The selection at pcb level and team managment level is all over the place.

If arthur is director of cricketer than what the hell is the guy doing?

Why not ? India is sending decent IPL Quality players to represent them then why shouldn't Pakistan ? Infact considering Pakistan's overall medal draught they should be even more keen to win in events that they can.
