Aus V India 3rd Test Kotla - Day 4

Only 30 overs remaining today, and India need to bat FIRST, then get a low score (which AUS bowler will get the wickets???), and then AUS need to score again.

Nah, i dont see that happen, the most important reason being that AUS bowlers cannot take the wkts.

The opposite might happen, is Sehwag, Ghambir and Dhoni really fire and score fast, they always can try to bowl AUS out :p Dont think that wont happen either.

Although it would be funny to see either one lose from this point :D

India are not the best players in the 2nd innings, hence the relative optimism from Border.

He's clutching at straws though, this pitch is too flat.

They might not be the best in the 2nd innings, but Border also needs to look at his own bowlers performance on these tracks :))

interesting point made on cricinfo! none of the aussie wickets have come through a catch! what a shame

Its not like he took 2 top order wickets :p

Disappointing from Kumble, u would think he can bowl better on wickets which after all are TAILOR MADE for him....

Well at least he got 2 wickets. The way he have bowled this year, I thought he would have to bowl till his daughter-in-law gives birth to a healthy baby boy for him to get another wicket.

Is anyone else greatly annoyed by Mark Nicholas?
:pissed: I used to think his accent was acceptable, now I just want to unleash murder.

I really didn't want this to be a draw, I wanted Aussies to win this so the last match could be a thriller with both teams coming in at 1-1.
and I want aussies to keep the BG Trophy :S

:pissed: Yes

and Lee again concedes big runs from the first over :pissed:

Unless india have a super collapse this is a draw! Well done to Micheal Clarke on a brillaint ton and Cameron white batted well. Australia still in this series!

GOT HIM! Ishant caught off a short delivery by Clark!
The nightwatchman is gone :)

That's what they get for being so defensive - nightwatchman?

That is the difference between a Kumble and Dhoni in captaincy...

Dhoni would have probably batted his team out of danger today

Kumble went for the 'safer' option and opted for Ishat Sharma as a nightwatchman that didnt last the night...

Australia would be happy if they could nip 1 more out here!

Could Australia pull of a Adelaide type win like they did v england in ashes!

katich to bowl last over of the day!

39/2 at moment!

Close day 4 - India 43/2

Unless Aussies get 3/4 wickets in 1st session tmoz this will be a draw and india will take a 1-0 lead to nagpur.

What would India do tomorrow ? In my opinion, they won't even think of declaring. They would just play safe and have some batting practice tomorrow.

Keep Australia in the field all day and gain more confidence with the bat!

Intresting to see who ghambir is replaced by in next match!

Assuming that his appeal is heard before the next test (I cynically suspect that some BCCI interference to delay the inevitable will result in Gambhir playing in Nagpur).

If not, probably Badrinath?

i would be happy if Rohit is drafted in as the replacement even though he is not in the 14. not a great fan of Badri. Rohit has handled the aussies in the one day series fairly confidently. he is in good nick and his confidence is high after his century in the earlier tour game against almost same team.

This is what I said before the 4th day:

Back to the game, we really needed two of the top four to be there by stumps and that didn't happen. Full credit to their fighting spirit as they made India work today but we needed some of those blokes to go on and get a hundred. We may avoid the follow on but we're still in big trouble. Losing Hussey just before the close was a big psychological blow.

Our lower order is talented but I'm not sure about their temperament in this type of situation. This is the kind of situation that Gilly used to help us with, now Haddin, Watto and White will have to make up for him. Losing 3 wickets to a part timer is pretty ordinary and suggests a lack of concentration (that said, I didn't see the deliveries that got them out so maybe Sehwag was doing his Murali impersonation today).

We need a ton from Pup and some contributions from Haddin and Watson, and at least 30 from Cam White if we are to draw this Test. This is Watto's chance to show that he deserves his place in the side on the basis of his batting, since he's supposed to be a batting allrounder. And this is Haddin's chance to show that he can mitigate the loss of Gilly.

First session tomorrow will be absolutely crucial. And since today is Friday in Boston I'll get to watch it finally.

Kudos to Pup for what looks like a matchsaving hundred. Useful contributions from Shame Watson, Cam White and Haddin too - we needed 30+ from each. Not out of the woods yet, but I think we may be averted defeat.

LOL reading Cricinfo commentary, Brydon Coverdale seems so sad right now. Stupid Pom. :D

Not quite. Otherwise I'd have said OZ "did a Bones20" if that were the case. :p

Hopefully we can take India down today and level the series, India will choke

Won't happen. When we took down England in Adelaide in 06, we had:

- Warney creating some miracle dismissals;
- McGrath bowling; and
- Lee bowling well.

We have none of the 3 happening today. This will be a draw I think.

Well at least we will be trying to win the game :yk

Even if India do choke, Aussies cant bat in day 5 on this one. They should settle for a draw here. IMO, they should be favorites to win the next one in Nagpur so just hang on here.

Well that's the only option left. Unless they want to go to Nagpur 1-1.

There have been news in the media that Gambhir does have a good chance of playing in Nagpur.
