In their last 5 games, Pakistan have won 2 games and lost 3. In their last 5 games, Australia have won 3 games and lost 2. The series will mark a new chapter for Pakistan in white-ball cricket, with wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan taking over the reins of the team from Babar Azam.

This will be Pakistan’s first ODI assignment since its group-stage World Cup exit in India last year. Meanwhile, ODI World Cup champion Australia is coming off a 3-2 series win over archrival England and will look to continue the momentum.

The pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne will allow for good stroke play and the batters will find it easy to bat on the surface. It will only allow a little assistance to the bowlers and wicket-taking will take a lot of work. The average 1st innings score at this venue in the last 20 matches is 257 runs. The team batting first at this venue has won 50% of its matches, so the toss does not make much of a difference here. The team winning the toss may decide to bat or bowl depending on the ground conditions today.

Teams:

Pakistan (Playing XI):
Abdullah Shafique, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan(w/c), Kamran Ghulam, Agha Salman, Irfan Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain

Australia (Playing XI): Matthew Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Steven Smith, Josh Inglis(w), Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Pat Cummins(c), Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa

i cant remember last time a four pacer strategy worked for Pakistan.

Having no proper spinner is brainless!!!

Wasn’t this the strategy deployed during the T20 World Cup IN AUS. And Pakistan lost the final marginally because they don’t post a competitive total?

Why are we going in with only 4 bowlers?

Not to mention 2 of them are SSA and Haris Rauf - guaranteed to give away close to 200 runs in their 20 overs while picking up 3-4 wickets (typically while the opposition is slogging away when closing out their innings)..

Do we actually think before we pick a team? Or is this whoever has the most sway can get in?

Absolutely pathetic...

Can't even blame the selectors now after rizwan him self has said he's picked the playing XI 🙁

This is bound to happen When Eight minds are used while picking 11,

seems Jason is obsessed with playing 4 pacers and get hammered.. They need to think about the opposition first..

Im sure they will struggle against left arm spin of Arafat and Faisal just as how England gifting wickets to Motie in WI..

Young opener Saim Ayub will make his ODI debut against Australia today. Young all-rounder Irfan Khan Niazi will also make his ODI debut today.

Saim Ayub has already played Tests and T20 Internationals for Pakistan. He made his T20 debut against Afghanistan in March 2023 and his Test debut against Australia in the southern hemisphere this year.

Irfan Khan Niazi made his T20 debut against New Zealand in April this year.

Both players received their debut caps from Pakistan legend and former captain Wasim Akram.

Irfan Khan Niazi is not all rounder. He’s just a batter.

Kamran Ghulam who made a ton on debut in the recent Test series will make his ODI debut today.

Warner questioning Wasim Akram if he was really 17 years old playing his first ODI match at the MCG back in 1985 😂

Man I love listening to sohaib Akhtar talk on podcasts.

Ik he's a controversial figure but atleast he speaks the truth.

Abdullah is one lucky cricketer. He has played all formats with barely any domestic cricket. Meanwhile, others average nearly 50 in multiple formats and get their chance after many years.

He's a parchi, Entered the team cause Babar fell in love with his technique.

Mediocrity always recognises mediocrity

Starc looking like he's back in form? That's amazing. Or maybe he's performing well cause it's home conditons

This looks like a terrific wicket to bat on and pakistan are batting like chickens smh

Lol, Saim, First walking wicket gone.

i told everyone pakistan will be 50/4 half the time with such a pathehtic top order

Openers were trying to see off New ball si they could survive till lunch on day 1. Forgot that it's one day. But it makes sense as Rizwan said we wont follow the world. Maybe they are going back to 92 world cup style 30 overs 90 and then out up 250. Or 99 world cup where top 3 did similar job especially Razzaq seeing off New ball.

We're nearly halfway done for the PP, and not a single boundary has been hit.

Halat to dekho

It is a shame that Imam has been dropped in ODIs due to propaganda of young taluunt available to replace him. We don’t have any talent

Same old story. Tuk tuk tuk. This team doesn't have any future. Jason is there to take the blame of Shafiq's fault.

Missing the days when one of our openers used to be either Saeed Anwar or Imran nazir or Afridi. Full blown test batting lineup playing today. Maybe could have brought Shan who is usually at least somewhat aggressive.
