What's new

Australia (276/7) defeat Pakistan (157) by 119 runs to win the Super League QF of ICC U19 World Cup

It's okay for teams to not win U19 WC.
Main thing is to find few good players for future.
Did you find any? Like Brevis for SA.

Really disappointed with the batters effort today.

None of them looked comfortable against the 3 Aussie quicks, the footwork was poor, they had no clue of where their off stump was. To me it looked like poor technique rather than pressure.

I am sorry but the team balance was pathetic as well.

1) Faisal Akram sitting on the sidelines
2) 6'8 fast bowler warming the bench
3) I know awais took a bag full of wickets but did not look good enough for a specialist bowler role. Could have used Shehzad instead as the third seamer and played the big guy
4) The number 6 batsman abbass. He was neither a batter nor a bowler.
5) I have never seen Irfan Niazi score runs barring that one game against Zimbabwe.

True. It seems like our under 19 boys were practising against 70 mph trundlers in the nets.

I dont mind losing, but this today was an embarrassment.

Disappointed.. the batsmen needed to show more heart. The techniques looked iffy and they choked under pressure. Who wins toss and bowls first in a knock out game! The coach must be fired..

Australia became the third side into the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 Super League semi-finals with a comprehensive win over Pakistan.

They joined England and Afghanistan in the final four with a 119-run success on a day where batting first was the order of the day.

The United Arab Emirates set a target beyond hosts West Indies on their way to a Plate semi-final success, while Uganda were 35-run winners in the Plate play-off semi-finals against Papua New Guinea.

Top order batting sends Australia through

Australia booked their place in the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 Super League semi-finals with a 119-run win over Pakistan thanks to some fine top-order batting.

Half-centuries for Teague Wylie and Corey Miller, as well as 47 from Campbell Kellaway, helped Australia to 276 for 7 from their 50 overs and that proved far too much for Pakistan in Antigua.

Barring a 50-run partnership for the third wicket, Pakistan were always behind in their chase and eventually crumbled to 157 all out with the wickets shared among the Australian bowlers.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to field, but soon regretted that decision as Kellaway and Wylie (71) put on 86 for the first wicket.

Kellaway was stumped off the bowling of Qasim Akram (3-40), but that just brought Miller to the crease and he accelerated the run-rate on his way to 64.

Their stand of 101 was brought to an end by Awais Ali, who had Wylie bowled, with Miller following soon after to leave Australia 203 for three with just under ten overs remaining.

Skipper Cooper Connolly chipped in with 33 and William Salzmann cracked a quickfire 25 off 14 balls from No.7 to set a competitive target.

It soon became clear that it would be well beyond Pakistan, with Muhammad Shehzad and Haseebullah Khan both caught behind to leave their side 27 for two in the fifth over.

Abdul Faseeh (28) and Irfan Khan (27) started to rebuild before the latter was bowled by Salzmann (3-37), and the wickets fell at regular intervals from then on.

Australia will now face the winner of the final Super League quarter-final between India and defending champions Bangladesh on Saturday.

on the contrary, you only need one or two players in each u19 cycle to be good, both faseeh and mehran are good players, but this is not their format.

I agree it isn't thier format but one thing I can say is Irfan Khan is terrible.

Also remember that he was replacing Wahid who is a batter but they decided to pick another so called all rounder.

What was worrying for me was just how big the gap was in terms of game awareness and levels of skill between the Australian players and the Pakistani players.

There was no clear thinking or proper plan.

If they had planned and really thought about the run-chase, it wasn't impossible. Instead they came out trying to slog everything, then blocked for over after over.

Thats right. 2-3 players making into national team is necessary. India and Australia regularly gets the supply from under 19 level .

not sure abt Australia, there last under 19 kid to get famous was lloyd pope, and he's struggling in first class. jason sangha is also struggling in first class.

the only aus under 19 whos pbly done decent in last few years was sutherland, whos fairly regular on the domestic circuit but even he's miles away from an aus call up. don't think aus attach much importance to under 19 cricket, esp since its white ball.

What about Bancroft?

Why can't the PCB organize a separate 4 day competition, ODI tournament and T20 tournament for the U19 boys?

Ijaz Ahmed should be shamed of himself and resign. I bet he still thinks he choose the right playing 11. He should be ban from Pakistan cricket to any further role.

Waited for two years for this WC and this performance , disappointing indeed. Not any exciting talent came out.
Zeeshan will be another Sameen Gul like player, good only for FC cricket, not beyond . Ahmed Khan can become a useful allrounder but he is a very young and 1-2 years away even from FC cricket. He is a bit short too but has good run up and wrist position with decent pace and swings the ball both ways and pitches the ball up. Shehzad showed some intend whenever he played and can be a good future WBC player with his more than useful bowling. Similarly , Qasim Akram has some future with international cricket too. But no Afridid, Haider or even Huraira in this line up.
