What's new

Australia [285/7] defeat England [221] by 64 runs and reach semi-finals of World Cup 2019

If England cannot chase 285 here, there's no way they are going to beat India or NZ.

Even if they, it doesn't guarantee win in rest two matches. Between top teams its all about who plays better on the day and use the conditions to their advantage

no match is given

With England batsman, I think they haven't fired on all cylinders despite some good wins and performances but it could be that day where they get their destructive mojo back. Mo is due a monster knock and so is Butler

I would tend to agree. There will be increasing pressure with every game to come that England fails to secure the win. I think this is a 50/50 game as it stands, a couple of early wickets and it will be hard for England. I don't care how deep you bat, world cup games have a whole different tension to bilateral series.

I dont see NZ beating england

A team with Boult & Ferguson + a solid batting line up (class of Williamson, experience of Taylor, a bit of power, generally a good plan) is capable of beating any team in English conditions on their day. I don't think they are favourites but it wouldn't be a huge shock if they won.

btw english conditions are similar to new zealand conditions

Why not? NZ squeaked over the line against Bangladesh and India just nearly lost to Afghanistan. Every team is potentially beatable.

Because of pressure....beatable but would be harder , in this match they can still play freely

shaz619 - I think it's still a good total despite that late order collapse from Australia.

If you bowl in the right areas there's still assistance on offer from this surface.

We were hoping to see such left arm bowling from Shaheen in this tournament :(

Lords usually seems to be a place for visiting teams to take a bite of home team.

What a ball! Behendorff is a gem.. provides what Starc doesn't offer... inswing into the right handers!

Thats the length i would like Amir to be hitting more and more. For some reason He seems
to be more contend with keeping it to good length rather than full

Lovely length

Jason played for MI lol , and MI didnt play him whole
Season and still won, darnit should had played nd got him found out :P

It's a safety first approach from Aamir, I don't mind it at the death but he needs to be more ambitious at the top

Starc should never take the new ball for Australia. Cummins and Behendorff should. Starc is good in the middle and deadly at death

But with Pakistan’s poor batting, he needs to take wickets upfront. Else by the time he comes at death, teams would have already enough runs beyond the reach of Pakistan.

England will chase this easy. Australian attack isn’t good enough. 5th bowler will get hit for 80+.

The ball is swinging but with the lefties going with a leg stump line, they will get hit for boundaries on anything slightly loose.

I also see him bowl a lot of cross seam deliveries in the first 2-3 overs. By the time he gets it right, white kookaburra doesn't offer you any swing. Amir probably has to bowl an over or two before the innings begin.

Lol favorites.Would love your opinion Mamoon.Still think Aussies are overrated

Babar and Imam were smacking drives on a similar pitch. If we had played a bit more sensibly we would have won. So disappointing

Beautiful set up from Starc. Now the left handlers will be even more susceptible to the left arm away swing

This is proper left arm swing bowling. Wonderful to watch after months of crap from our army of left armers in Junaid, Shinwari, Wahab, Amir (between end of CT17 and start of this WC) and Shaheen.

"360 is par score..."

"ordered the 500 runs score books"

Struggling to chase against SL and now Aus :vk2:vk2

Come on mate, none of those guys are capable of swinging the ball like Starc. Wahab and Amir are doing okay within the confines of their ceiling although Amir could certainly improve by pitching the ball up a bit more and not constantly wasting the new cherry with cross seam deliveries; but make no mistake Starc is just a maestro of swing bowling, the best in the tournament

Howz this team No1 in ODI.They look like Tailenders. Kudos to ICC for such good pitches with variety in WC

Why Australia is a champion side can be judged by their understanding and exploiting of the conditions

Cummins is top bowler but his more hit the deck. They are bowling Starc and behrendorff both try
to pitch it up and use swing

Amir must take note here and bowl this length in his opening spells to get wicket at the top
they are vital. Hopefully tomorrow Amir will be seen bowling this length without worrying about
few boundaries

England are in doledrums
