Australia [454 & 217/2d] beat New Zealand [256 & 136] by 279 runs in the third Test, win series 3-0

Aussies won’t enforce the follow on in any case, but Kiwis need to consume as many overs as possible here.

The decline of Test quality batting is alarming - there is no 50 from Kiwis here on what is still a good wicket and each one got a decent start. Batsmen’s span of concentration has come down to 35 runs level - in that regard, may I suggest that we should consider (& count in stats) one more mile stone - quarter century. The way things are moving, we might see batsmen celebrating reaching 25.....

it's not decline. players just play too many games in too many different formats.

the addition of t20 has ruined test a little but the quality of players is still top notch.

players don't have many tour games prior to a test series these days. There is just no time to play tour games as players have to accomodate t20 and a bilateral odi series as well.

every country has their nightmare or difficult matchup away from home.

1) India's away tour bad matchup is england. to a lesser extent n.z as well.
2) Australia's away bad matchup is india. for almost all teams the difficult matchup away is india.
3) England's away tour bad matchup is india, pakistan and australia.
4) for pakistan it's australia and south africa
5) south africa away tour bad matchup is india and Sri Lanka. pakistan too. don't recall them playing well in Asia.
6) west indies away bad matchup us most Asian countries, australia, south africa.
7) Bangladesh- home and away most top teams are bad matchups but generally all SENA countries are terrible matchups.
8) new zealand away tour bad matchup is india, south africa and australia. They are horrendous in india and australia.

Cummins is such a fantastic bowler He never throws in the towel. He keeps coming back at you.

South Africa's only bad away tour match up is India. They do well against Pakistan away.

No surprise Lyon is effective here. But you shouldn't lose 5 wickets to seamers here. This is not a seamer friendly track.

Journeyman Lyon again takes a 5for - that too on Day 3 & 2nd innings of the Test. Might end up with a 10 for here. He is going to adjust his SCG stats here.

Day 3: Australia lead by 243 runs with 10 wickets remaining

Stumps Day III , Aussies will push towards a big Target tomorrow and look to bowl out kiwis

Everyone calls them roads but there is enough in Aussie decks is your bowling is good enough. You don't need extravagant movement to get wickets, just a little nibble now & again on day 1, or with the new ball or some belief & purpose the rest of the time.

Problem is the pop-gun attacks most teams turn up with.

Good bowlers don't NEED a friendly track to get wickets.

Both batters have come with aggressive frame of mind here , they probably loooking to get quick runs and declare.

Aussies grip on the game is very strong now. 327 runs lead , with 9 wickets in hand. They have all the wickets in hands to go for acceleration.

Labuschange is batting really well , he has big opportunity here to get another big one and boost his average further.

looks very dejected and from his facial expressions I feel like he hates to see marnus outperform him. Maybe it's not true. I don't know. just wondering.

It's all in Smith's hands tbh, Smith may as well be a household name in Australia, Labuschagne shas a long way to go.

Smith needs to be consistent and will be back on top and I honestly haven't noticed the jealousy thus far.

Labu will be no.3 bat soon with Kane's failure and Labu's dream run. That is astonishing rise in the ICC ranking. Many took years to get there

is smith jealous of marnus's rise? seems to me like he is affected. That's a shame.

Good days for Aussies !! If i were an Aussie i would love the competition between them as the team benefits ultimately. We have our own such competition. Rohit/Kohli in one dayers. Not long ago Jadeja and Ashwin were competing for no.1 and no.2 spot.

And what about Rayudu and Rahane for no.4 :p

I can excuse an Asian side struggling like this in Australia. But New zealand should have done a lot better with bat.

your love for labu makes me sick lol. nah but in all honesty, he has been excellent so far. Let's see what he does vs india when bumrah shami return.

Labu was poor vs Pakistan in UAE 2018.. However he's improved s lot since then, but I'm interested in how he does in Asia. I feel le he will struggle.

Until he fails there we cannot say anything. There has to be a reason why we expect him to fail. One reason we expect people to fail in India when they are weaker against spin. In this case Labu looks confident against spin. When a player like smith with his funky technique could pile up runs in INdia, there is no reason why Labu can't score. Root did well in India. Cook bossed us in a series.

Smith is like a little kid and the crease is his candy shop. All he wants is to bat and score runs. Labuschagne is stealing his candy.

Before his ban, he batted below a mediocre player like Khawaja or some other non-prolific number 3 and it would give him ample time and opportunity to score big.

Now with Labuschagne scoring big, he is starved for time and is often playing outside his comfort-zone to get quick runs for the team.

Over the last 5 Tests, Labuschange has stolen about 2-3 hundreds from him and it is normal for him to be somewhat miffed.

True !!! Being the only good player in a team has its own advantages.

This has been a disastrous series for NZ. I expected Aussie win but the margins are still shocking.

Kohlis had the same issue this year with India's top order being so prolific.

labu looks confident vs trash spinners. playing spin well in australia is nothing compared to playing spin in india. btw smith was dropped 3 or 4 times in that 2016 series in india.

Thank god this series is over.

Really pathetic effort from our players, this is what you'd expect from WI and SL.

The gap between India, Aus and the rest is increasing at an alarming rate teams are barely competing at the two countries home grounds.

What a waste of an Australian summer. Pakistan are atrocious but New Zealand should have done a lot better especially in these conditions.

Looks like 2019 was when the peak of this generation ended. The next 3-4 years could be very tough for them. Certainly not a contender for the WTC, the two WT20s or the next World Cup.

NZ are back to being champions at home but minnows in Australia and South Africa

This is why Test cricket is finished.

Without SA, NZ and Pakistan, it leaves India, Aus and England (who are pretty bad themselves).

NZ and Pakistan in the last 20 years have been worst visitors to Australia and the results have been exactly the same this year too. Both teams have had otherwise a decent outings recently.

But Newzealand won 1 test and draw a few test matches whereas Pakistan lost all the matches.

Yes they might have won 1 and drawn a few in last two decades but vs Aus they also lost every home series in the last two decades as well. While Pak has won its last 2 home series vs Aus and drawing one home series (That too in Eng; as neutral as it gets). So Aus has completely dominated NZ in test cricket everywhere.

I was talking about their record in Australia not vs Australia but I agree with you Australia dominated Newzealand in their home ground as well.

no it isn't. S.A will bounce back. Sri Lanka can still compete. they beat saffers away. they compete well with England and n.z.

if anything teams right now are stronger than ever especially at home.

n.z at home can beat anyone except australia.

don't forget pakistan is still great in their home. they will decimate most teams at home. That's how you build a team. Build a strong team from home. Once you are strong at home, focus on building a team for away conditions.

Horrific show by NZ, haven't seen them this bad in a long time. Congrats Australia.

Add srilanka too. losing 8 out of 9 in the same period

Shambolic effort by NZ and i can see India turning them over soon aswell.
