Australia and New Zealand are locking horns in the final of T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai. This is the 3rd final of an ICC event in just over the past 2 years. Kane Williamson-led NZ have played all three finals and hence, their players achieved a unique record during the ongoing final.
Williamson and pacer Trent Boult have achieved the unique feat of playing three successive finals of ICC events across all three formats. They were part of the playing XI in the 50-over 2019 World Cup final, the World Test Championship final and are playing the T20 WC 2021 final.
There are a few players who were part of the NZ team in all three finals but failed to make it to the playing XI. Tim Southee failed to break into playing XI for the 2019 WC final. Both Williamson and Boult are regulars across all formats and have achieved this unique record.
The Black Caps lost the final of the 50-over WC final to England on the boundary count. They conquered India in the WTC final and won their 2nd ICC trophy.
In the ongoing final, NZ are struggling to keep their scoring rate high and have the challenge to post a big total on the board. It is to be noted that the teams batting second have won all the matches in Dubai in the tournament and NZ have to make sure that they post a big target on the board.
They suffered a big blow ahead of the final as Devon Conway was ruled out of the game. He was replaced by Tim Seifert, who will bat in the middle-order. Australia are unchanged for the summit clash.
