The Judgement Day..

All set for the final judgement on the greatest modern day rivalry in cricket.

As they say, the El Classico of cricket :virat :smith

Will this be the repeat of GABBA or revenge of GABBA? :inti

GO INDIA GO!

Miracles don't happen everyday. India already have succeeded everyone's expectations by dragging match to fifth day. They still have 1% chance to win the match because cricket is so unpredictable.

Yes, we need atleast 250 runs from Kohli, Rahane and Jadeja to win this game. Basically, two centurions is what we need.

India will return to The Oval for the fifth day of the ICC World Test Championship Final with full belief that they can win the Test, according to veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami.

Needing 444 for victory, India ended Day 4 at 164/3 with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease. Advantage Australia with India needing a record chase to win.

Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will head out to the middle on Sunday with India needing a further 280 runs to win after finishing the fourth day on 164/3.

And should they reach their target of 444 to win the WTC Final it would be the highest-ever fourth-innings run chase to win a game in Test history.

But Shami says that the team are ready to defy the record books.

“One hundred percent everyone believes that tomorrow we will win the match,” he said when talking to the assembled media in the indoor nets of The Oval’s Bedser Stand on Saturday evening.

“We always fight, we perform well around the world. So we believe and we will all come together to win this match.”

Shami’s confidence tallies with the sentiment expressed by Shardul Thakur after day three, when the Indian bowler said that the team felt that they were capable of chasing down “450, maybe more”.

And while some of that confidence comes from memories of huge and successful batting efforts in the 2021 Border-Gavaskar series Down Under, when India pulled off a famous victory, Shami isn’t keen to draw parallels at this stage.

“It doesn't matter what happened in Sydney or Brisbane, we are playing here. We have to think about tomorrow and we will win the match," he added.

“I believe that the Test match should go until the fifth day and maybe until the last session. That's the real test. So we have to bat well and they have to bowl well to save themselves.”

The two players out in the middle on the resumption will hold the key to India’s hopes.

Rahane earned his recall to the India Test XI thanks partly to stunning form for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, and showed that he is back to his entertaining best with a classy 89 in the first innings.

And his batting partner Kohli went beyond a career tally of 2000 runs in Tests against Australia during his unbeaten 44* on Saturday, becoming only the fifth Indian batter in history to do so.

What happens if the World Test Championship ends as a draw?
Shami believes that if the remaining batters play properly then knocking off the 280 runs remaining shouldn’t be out of India’s reach.

“If you bat well, 280 runs is not a big score. So I think you should bat normally as a Test match; focus on playing ball by ball. You should not look at the long target. When you keep small goals and targets, you will get more success.”

And what if Shami is called upon to hit the winning runs in the WTC Final? Is he dreaming of winning the mace for India?

“Yes, I am always ready,” the lower-order batter said with a smile. “Especially in England, there is a need to make partnerships. I think everyone can bat in today's Indian team cricket and, hopefully, we will win tomorrow.”

ICC

India will bat well in patches but eventually lose the match. Will be a hard loss to take for the many fans who will show up.

People talk about rivalries between players. For me, Kohli vs Lyon has been one of the best rivalries in the last decade and half. Remember that epic 2014 series down under, 2017 home tests in India, 2018 tour etc.

It is very much possible that today will be the last time we see this battle which started way back in 2011.

#KohliVsLyon

It is raining in Dorset (south coast) where I am in currently. It is coming soon in London :P

Common India! Cheering for their win big time today.

Goes without saying, King Kohli, the King of chase is the key.

Babar should watch Kohli's 2nd innings and learn how to play under pressure instead of his super-star attitude and fail miserably in pressure matches.

Kohli falls through the trapdoor. Boland with a deliberate full wide tempter.

And another. Scott Boland is a smart bowler, IMO he should start in the Ashes ahead of Mitchell Starc. Perfect for English conditions and Dukes ball.

Choker chases a wide one and throws his wicket away just as India were getting into a good position.

India can't win from here, they'll have to bat to survive.

The pitch is great to bat on now. England would have chased this down here.

But Indian batting is weak. You play according to your strengths and weaknesses. This wasn't a damp pitch underneath or a green top that they decided to bowl first. They have Australia what they love i.e bat first in big games

I just had to up the volume thinking there was next to no sound, but my bad, the Indian crowd are silent.

It is.

Too many passengers who should be dropped. Their cycle is over but no one has told these geezers :kohli

Bounce troubling the Indians.

Looking shellshocked.

Harsha's voice has dropped atleast 2 octaves.

Talk about being brought back down to Earth! Seems like the only rain we will be seeing today are that of Indian tears.

No tears at all. We can head held high for playing in 2 back to back WTC finals.

Indeed

Pakistan fans: "Khud kabhi kuch karna nahi aur doosro per hasna"

Pakistan had the WTC final put on a plate for them with the run in on fixtures and we managed to blow it because we wanted to ensure Babar is 'king' on flat decks at home

Playing their shots and getting out is better than tucking away and trying to survive as its impossible here

0-1 in 3 Tests v Australia at home

0-3 in 3 Tests v England at home

0-0 in 2 Tests v New Zealand at home

We as Pakistan fans are better off remaining as silent as the Indian fans today at the oval

Billionaire Team India stil remain searching for their first ICC trophy in Years

No one remembers runners up, but in the case of WTCs, runners up India will be remembered because despite all the money, they have yet to translate to ICC trophies.

Plus being runners up is the highest position India has reached of late so Indian fans will cherish second place.

Bring it down to 200 runs to win with 5 wickets in hand, and hope for the best

Mamoon India have had the results over Aus in recent years but Aus getting it done when it matters most.

Indian batters have no patience. They throw away their wickets in the name of fearless cricket and lose the game.

Absolute bottlers, did the same in WTC 2021. They were 1 down by Day 4 stumps. And then lost 9 wickets in 1.5 sessions and let NZ chase down 140 in 1 session.

These guys just can't block out to save a test match.

Thanks BCCI,....for all the money guzzling talents that you have....

Your penchant for more moeny has caused a golden generation of our guys to loose in 2021 and here....

You have diluted international cricket

You dont represent a whole bunch of rational indian fans.

False bravado inspired by Kohli's overly enthusiastic and delusional team meetings. Kohli is responsible for India not winning anything in recent years. I will give him credit only for improving the fast bowling culture in India.

The 'Locals' on PP are out in fine voice now...

Were nowhere to be seen when Aus were 73/3 on thursday. At least can view a fine test match featuring the two best test teams over the past 2 years playing quality cricket.

Another World Championship for Australia.

Damn.

That's their 7th I think.

Camera panning on Indian fans who are praying for rain. The commentators quite rightly reminded viewers that there is a reserve day.

Winning back to back to Test series in Australia is a bigger deal than winning a WTC final. The WTC Final is a glorified exhibition match.

Australia have not done it against India when it matters most. They have lost home and away. A one-off game doesn’t reflect the real relative strength of two sides but a Test series does.

Australia would happily trade this match for winning back to back Test series in India.

Australia will be the first team to have won all ICC trophies.

World Cup
T20 World Cup
Champions Trophy
WTC trophy.

In fact, India could have been the first to hold all 4 too, but bottled the inaugural WTC, and now this.

India crumbling. Troll posters absent or silent.

Oz far too good right from team selection onward through every facet.

Extra special sauce- a review decision of a guy taking a catch 6 inches above the turf sends Indian twitter into meltdown.

Bliss.

BCCI needs to stage a WTC final back home

BCCI needs to stage a WTC final back home

Don’t think it is possible, as all WTC finals will be held in London, England. This includes the next WTC final.

But you never know, BCCI may have to lobby a venue change, ultimately orchestrating a win. :)

WTC victory is bigger than any test series or gabba test match win

It’s like winning World Cup

It wouldn't have been just an Exhibition Match if you replace Pak with India. India at this rate may not even make it to Lunch. Even Pak useless batting most likely would have put more fight than this.

India bottling two WTC Finals, this is embarassing. They could have easily saved atleast one of those test matches if their batsman showed some meattle.

Kohli deserves to be blamed here, he has been awful with bat for so long. He has done nothing in Test cricket since 2018 vs any of the major teams across so many big games. One of the biggest chokers in knockout games.

Pakistan had the opportunity handed on a platter. They couldn’t have asked for a more favorable fixture list.

Unfortunately, Pakistan was not good enough to win even at home so we cannot complain.

Exactly, what Indian fans fail to understand is that the bilateral Test series count towards a spot in the WTC.

In fact, the Ashes will be the beginning of the next WTC cycle.

India are minnows in England, South Africa and New Zealand. Proved again.
