In normal circumstances, this situation has all the hallmarks of a tame draw but given the capabilities of both sides, this could suddenly become very interesting if wickets fall quick tomorrow.

Still no Iyer. Which means he is still unfit.

I don't know why do we play such unfit players. And that when he is someone who is not overflowing with batting talent.

We need good players of spin in India. I know he's not done well this series but prior to this he was clearly one of the few who was willing to attack spin and do it successfully.

Iyer is an excellent player of spin. A rarity these days in India.

Aus need the spinners to initiate a collapse otherwise a draw with a record crowd

Iyer is also more style than substance. Hasn't proven himself and he is one of the few who has been lucky with the fact that he has played only one test overseas( which is his achilies heels) till now.

Iyer is purely for Indian conditions if at all.

These Indian batsmen are so boring. Staying in the crease and getting tied up by spin. No intent to race down the track and put spinners off their lengths .

So can we eke out a win from a potential draw here? We need to score 600 by tomorrow morning and then bundle them out.

On the other hand if they get Kohli out now it could get pretty interesting.

Bharat can't even play spin. I can only imagine how he'll perform with bat in SENA countries.

This.

Iyer is very lucky to be born in this era to be termed excellent player of spin. In previous eras, he won't have come anywhere near Indian cricket team.

Plus I wonder if our batsmen are keeping an eye on what's going on with NZ - SL and deciding their strategy based on that. Would be a first, but possible.

They knew shreyas not coming to bat. That's why they will trying to kill the session by defensive approach. Just wasting ball. This match is heading towards draw

Kohli is 4* (42) in this partnership with Bharat.

Despite batting for 30-odd overs in this innings, Kohli is still not looking assured at any stage of his innings. Still very scratchy.

But kudos to Kohli, he is slowly but surely, shutting Australia out of this test. However, his job is only 50% done.

Shreyas Iyer has been sent for scans on his back after persistent pain during India's fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad.

After he complained of his discomfort after day three, Iyer did not walk to bat after the fall of Ravindra Jadeja's wicket early on day four, with KS Bharat instead sent out to go about India's reply to Australia's 480.

The BCCI confirmed Iyer's movement in the moments after Bharat took guard.

Iyer's back ruled him out of India's ODI series against New Zealand in January, complaining of a similar injury after a series against Sri Lanka. He was then sent to the BCCI's National Cricket Academy in Bangalore as precaution, before being cleared for the team's preparatory camp for the current Test series.

In Iyer's absence, India have press on in eating away at Australia's strong first innings, after Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green centuries earlier in the Test lifted the tourists to almost 500. In reply, Shubman Gill notched his second Test century in Saturday's play, with Virat Kohli approaching a 28th Test century early on day four.

Numbers were something like 1.6-1.8 million watching for most of the Test and that's peak Numbers. Has increased to 3 million just yo watch Kohli get his ton.

Virat Kohli scores a Test hundred for the first time in over two years

Dravid is a major absence on this list. He didn't score any home 100s against them apart from Eden Gardens - that's where these numbers have added up for everyone else (especially Vijay who has a habit of sneaking into these lists).

Hope the floodgates open now, both in this test and in future too

Khawaja struggling in the field. Hope all is well.

He is off the field now.

In this innings, we have lost 1 wicket in each session we batted.

Sri Lanka can’t win 2-0

India favorites to win the WTC final vs Australia 🤔

I will support the winning Team :))

I will support the winning Team For World Cup 2023 also :))

What a graceful celebration by Kohli upon reaching 3 figures!

2 Flat track bullies did well in this test match Khawaja and Kohli, the minute the wicket is challenging both become sitting ducks...

Smith drops Axar in slips, not often one sees this

If India get a 150 lead here they could win by an inns

Grindstone is out.

Pitch will probably suffer an act of God overnight and become Galle
Last 10 ov (RR): 67/0 (6.70)

India should just bat as long as possible to take the draw and thus the series.

Axar is good enough to play as a specialist batsman in India.

useless defensive tactics by India, why didnt they hit out about 20 ov before, Am happy VK socred big but weather he gets 200 or not , its as useful or useless as sachin in 2004 - Sydney when he sucked up enough balls adn time and not leaving us enough time to get their 10 wickets, i have afeeling this will be similar tommorw.

We could have still won that test if not for Parthiv & Bucknor.

Seemed a bit hindutva to me, kissing his religious locket chain etc in Narendra Modi stadium.

Why do we always look for things which are not there? Its not a religious locket but his engagement ring which he wears in his chain.

yaar, but still we did not give enoght time to our guys, Sachin 232 was a marathon leading nowwhere, i'd rather he scored 32 less and we wold have had 15 more ove that would have made a massive difference

AUS 480
IND 571 (178.5) CRR: 3.19
Day 4: Innings Break - India lead by 91 runs

Only option left for Aus is to bat like mad and try a declaration on Day 5

Yes, if they want to tie the series - that is only option. DW would have been handy in such situations. But for them , they have already qualified for WTC finals.
Its for India to do the running and they need to be aggressive.

Overall, i sense a dull draw tommorow. But I also predict SL winning tommorow and NZ winning second test.
Am not sure if Draw at Ahmedabad and 1-1 in Sl-NZ series will see india through, can anyone please enlighten?

i think that is something related to his marriage but even IF it was religious why did you have to mention it quoting a comment which says graceful. hurts you that bad? he didn't waste any time too. unrelated rubbish of hindutva, modi stadium etc.

Things not going Australia way - Draw or maybe an Aus defeat!?

True. He is better than the actual batsmen at the top and middle order in countering spin and pace in Indian conditions. Axar is a proper all rounder in these conditions. Unsung hero of this series.

Fourth Test, Ahmedabad (day four):
Australia 480 (Khawaja 180, Green 114, Ashwin 6-91) & 3-0
India 571 (Kohli 186, S Gill 128, A R Patel 79)
Australia trail by 88 runs

India's Virat Kohli ended his long wait for a Test century with a superb 186 which enabled the hosts to build a lead over Australia in the fourth Test.

Kohli, whose last ton came in November 2019, hit 15 fours in a 364-ball innings which saw him spend over eight hours at the crease in India's 571.

The 34-year-old superstar fell short of the double century when he was caught by Marnus Labuschagne off Todd Murphy.

He received a rapturous reception having put India in a healthy position.

India, who lead the series 2-1, effectively put themselves in an unbeatable position heading into the final day of the contest.

Having started the day on 59, Kohli continued to be the inspiration and provided more evidence that he has recaptured his form in a patient innings.

After a barren spell in 2021 and 2022 with the bat, which led to him losing the captaincy and also open up about his mental health struggles, Kohli has knocked one-day and T20 centuries in recent months.

Now his long wait for a 28th Test hundred has ended - and his relief was clear to see.

An emotional Kohli kissed the locket on his gold chain, smiling and looking up to the sky, as the crowd jubilantly celebrated his achievement.

Axar Patel, who hit four sixes and five fours in his 79, worked with Kohli to put on a sixth-wicket partnership of 162 and once he departed, Australia quickly took the wickets of Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav.

Kohli played less cautiously when he realised he was running out of partners and became the last Indian wicket to fall when he was caught by Labuschagne at long-on.

Trailing by 91 runs on first innings, Australia finished the day on 3-0.

The tourists decided to send out nightwatchman Matt Kuhnemann to open with Travis Head after Usman Khawaja hurt his knee while fielding.

Kuhnemann survived 18 balls, despite being nearly caught on two occasions, as Australia came through the final six overs without loss.

So after 3 dust bowls, we finally got a proper cricket wicket in this series (Seems India didnt have confidence playing on another rank turner)

In saying that India can still win this game on day 5.
